This Isolation is a piece of cake
Anne Frank spent two years in hiding living on scraps & hope for survival--& people here & in other locations are complaining after 30 days , surrounded with creature comforts, heat, A/C, fresh food, booze , Netflix--come on when this is over --be strong , its just a speed bump
Tomorrow is Holocaust memorial day-there are & were lots of people who if given a chance ,would trade places with any American living today |

I feel deeply for the very low income people who have no money and cannot buy food to feed their children. I wonder if we will have civil uprising and dead in the streets before this is over. |

The bad news, is that this isn't happening everywhere, AND it is especially not happening in places where people don't have easy transportation to the locations where the hand-outs are being given. The good news, is that the concept of giving to others is spreading almost as quickly as the virus itself. |

Not a cakewalk or speedbump for 22 million unemployed struggling to keep their family fed. Empathy... you might want to look it up |

As for the retired individuals who you think have sufficient funds to wait this out is nothing short of ignorance on your part. I am certain many retirees here in the Villages go month to month on their income. Chatbrat made a intelligent thoughtful post. :) |

So, you think it’s going to end in 30 days LOL |

Chatbrat's intention was nothing but good. Everybody is picking on every word in many posts. I even saw a post about spelling. Cut out the nit pickin and lets get through this together peacefully. Stop preaching. The Man Had a Great Point. Listen & Learn. This is Talk Of The Villages. I think his statement was meant for his contemporaries on this Forum not young families. That is a entirely different subject.
|
If the idea of Chatbrat's post was that others have had it much worse, doesn't that apply to virtually anything and everything that anyone could ever complain about?
In other words, the next time someone (including Chatbrat) complains on the forum about any local issue, couldn't the response be something along the lines of "Why are you complaining? Other people in the world have ( fill in the atrocity here )!" I understand the point being made, but it does come across to me as an attempt to nullify anyone's concerns about how things are being handled in this current era. |

Really???
When I even think about complaining about the inconvenience...and that's what it is for most of us, my father's service as a Marine on Iwo Jima comes to mind along with my parents' sacrifices during The Depression. When this is over, we as a nation need to address the low minimum wages of those who serve us and individuals need to try and stop living paycheck to paycheck.

Must be me
It must be me but I think the days are flying by! I am not bored as I found things to do to keep my mind occupied, (e.g. do Ancestry studies, watch some good Netflix/Amazon movies, put a mask on and take a ride in the cart around Lake Sumter, sit out in the sun and get some Vit D.) Darn, the day is already gone. Come on, stop feeling sorry for yourself and do something about your days. Oh Yea.. Reading the "Talk of the Villages" is another activity along with the Drudge Report and its many options. Notice I did not include drinking to numb feelings, sitting idle and complaining about the state of the world, hating the conditions, and blaming everyone but myself for the lousy attitude. Get positive and enjoy the life you have!!:ho:

The loss of our freedom is a serious issue and a power grab by politicians like the gov of Mich. people being dragged off buses? Lone surf-boarders being arrested by police not wearing masks themselves? This is an open door to giving power to government that we may never be able to reclaim all in the name of our “safety.” We need to put the world back to work. Who is going to pay for all these generous handouts? Pelosi? I do not think so, she will be busy eating ice cream out of her pricy freezer while on an extended “vacation” while our economy tanks.

Thank you! Staying positive is always a good thing!! ❤️

As for stimulus checks... there are many of us who don’t “NEED” them as much as retirees living month-to-month on only SSI or those people living day-to-day on much less. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be living off investment income or the benefits of a lucrative retirement plan. As for those who don’t NEED the stimulus checks, it’s “found money” that they can use however or for whatever they'd like. Sure, we can buy something for ourselves, but for them- it’ll be a few dollars that will get them a NEED, not a WANT. WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR CHECK IF YOU GET ONE? How about giving the person who is at risk but still bags your groceries with a smile or helps you to your car? Think about those who lost their jobs and incomes... the wait staff that usually serves a group of sometimes demanding diners and lives off of tips only. What about the workers around here that get the very minimum of what the company charges to care for your lawn? I can go on, but I won’t. I’m stepping off my soapbox. I think you get the gist. I’m not patting myself on the back, and I do WANT a new coffee table, but any money I receive, if any, I’d like to randomly give to those less fortunate than we are. Imagine how helpful that would be for them if everyone in my position (living modestly), or those living with much more than I have, could make a big difference in the life of someone else! |

Maybe you should look up HOLOCAUST. |

I explained who Mother Jones is in post #7 and also provided a link to many more news sources on long lines at food banks in case you doubt Mother Jones source. |
Perhaps we should do this every year, to give us a chance to feel good about ourselves. And remember no complaining.

So the Governor of Georgia in his announcement said : Georgia (the U.S. state): Gov. Brian Kemp said some businesses, including gyms and bowling alleys, can reopen Friday provided they comply with social distancing and sanitation measures. Tennessee and South Carolina also announced plans to ease lockdowns. Gueess you didn’t see that

Nicely said. Thank you. Hope others see it as a eye opener on how good we have it.

I could not agree more! Attitude makes a huge difference. Strange as it sounds, I hear of so many people whose lives were so filled with activities (the way TV is often advertised with a calendar) who are now finding without the distraction of these activities that they don't really know themselves—or worse, that they really don't enjoy being with themselves. This is not chiseled in stone; this is something we can work on, on our own, in our own homes. I too am finding self-quarantine to be 'a piece of cake' (though I'm probably eating too much of it...), and because of potentially complicating factors on top of age I don't even venture out by myself for a ride. I'm getting so much neglected stuff done around the house—and each accomplishment just feels good! I suspect it will be a different world when this is over, not better and hopefully not worse, but different. And perhaps we can use our time now to help us prepare for it. Back to attitude.... |
Cannot we all just once say thank you God. Appreciate what we have leave politics out of the conversation. Thank you. Like you I have wonderful family and friends who care and love me. Appreciate them. Take a deep breath and say YES I am still here.

The government is protecting Americans from dying. I am from NJ and people are dying everyday from this disease. Loved ones are dying alone. Funerals are not taking place. The reality is horrible. The poor in this country are suffering. They need help. Food banks need help. Rather than complain about your comfortable lives here in The Villages go out & help! Go shopping for those who can’t. A jar of peanut butter and a loaf of bread will feed a family for dinner. $5. That feeds a family for dinner. I am sure Anne Frank would have loved some compassion from her government. As we Americans enjoy everyday! Stop saying the government is telling you what to do & not to do. You as Americans enjoy freedoms that people died for you to have. So just stop jumping on people because they have a different opinion than you. As Americans we can have different opinions. It is our right. People with guns protesting in the streets are not peaceful if the have guns. Guns kill people. They are showing their weapons to intimidate. It is not their right of free speech if they are showing a gun to make you see their ideas. It is inciting violence. Plain and simple. (& those of you who want to say owning a gun is you right. I agree but using it to show force is a violation of my right to walk down the street peacefully and without fear) |
Poor Chris Cuomo spent 10 days in the basement of his mansion out on Long Island in the Hamptons. Ohhhh, the pain, the misery, the agony he endured...had a captive audience bleeding for him every night. Would he have even survived a midnight train ride to a camp?

Government at this time is trying to protect us not control us. If police didn't stop those demonstrating they woud become out of control. That is how rioting & looting begin.
If everyone would have followed the guidelines in the beginning we would be at a better place. After one of the demonstrations in another state the COVID-19 cases went up from those yelling and screaming while protesting. They could at least wear a mask. |

Well I too live alone and don't have alot of connections with town clubs, etc. I don't like giving to big organizations cause I think a bunch of money goes to pay for salaries who work there, so I thought about it and wondered what I could do to give to someone who needs help who I do not even know. The idea came to me to just get some cash and put it in someone's mailbox or hand it to someone at the grocery store. I asked God to lead me to the first person, which meant I had to get in my car and drive a bit away......... I knew exactly where I was to go. Darn, no mailbox on the curb, not on the door front either. So I knocked and while I waited, I noticed the window to the side was broken, cigarette butts in a plastic bucket to the right, and a woman with a couple of children came to the door. When she opened it I told her I was told to bring this to her and gave her the envelope. She looked at me kinda funny, like she was trying to figure out who sent this and I said, "Here you go, I just said I'd bring this by. Have a great day and stay safe." .....and then left. I will never see her again, but now I know at least one person knows someone cares about her, and that is what we each need to know. I have typed this not to toot my own horn, but to challenge each of you to do that kind of thing too. Give to someone who is a perfect stranger and know that God will deliver to him/her what truly is needed. Have a great day and do your part to make this a better planet.
