As your first post you have taken the most important step. Now tell us more details about what you've done wrong. If it's really bad tell us now. If it's small maybe it's better to wait for the PANDEMIC to lighten up a bit.

villagetinker 04-22-2020 07:48 AM

If there are violations, call community standards, otherwise, I am not sure what else can be done.

You can call Community Standards and notify them of your complaint, 352-751-3912. Their job is to assist residents in upholding the aesthetic value of their property in The Villages.

thelegges 04-22-2020 09:43 AM

A definition of why you are using slum lord would be helpful

Melody40 04-22-2020 04:02 PM

Someone who rentS to anyone to make a profit and doesn’t follow the rules of the villages these folks are 36 living on welfare and now there’s someone else moving in to rent a room in this house he is 72 no relation. It’s not a comfortable situation here with these people. Apparently the 36-year-old has a criminal record against a police officer, Research showed.

retiredguy123 04-22-2020 04:11 PM

Sounds like a flophouse, not a slum.

karostay 04-22-2020 04:18 PM

Meth House

Is it a violation of the covenants in your village to rent to people under 55, have roommates, or prohibit people with criminal records from living here? If so, you should report the violations. (Or "tattle" as some would call it.)

No, one person must be over 55 thus renting the room to a 72 year old covers that situation. There are plenty of people with criminal records living here and many of the crimes they committed were while living here. It is near impossible to prove that there is a roommate and I don't recall seeing that not being allowed on my deed restrictions. As long as they are keeping the home in good condition on the exterior, I don't think anything can be done about who is living there unless it's a child under 19.

If there are any firearms or ammo in the house, a person with a felony conviction is in deep poop, speak to your county sheriff--you think you saw a gun

No one in the house has to be 55. Only rule is no one under 19

That's called "Swating" and has gotten innocent people killed.

Following this advice makes you the bad person.

Velvet 04-22-2020 07:45 PM

Chances are, given how many people have guns in Florida, there is a good chance that a criminal has one... maybe he does or maybe he doesn’t.

Nothing! As long as sales keep on track.

So what’s limit per household 15?

There is a known drug house a couple of blocks from us. A too common story in TV of the grandfather was ill, druggie kids moved in, and now they continue to inhabit the house.

Sherriff is there about every 2 months but the legal system just spits them back out and nothing changes. The homes on either side are for sale with no takers in over 3 months.

Sadly, I don't know there is anything community standards can do as long as they maintain a minimum standard of care. I guess they will eventually be arrested long enough to lose the house.

This isn’t by any means meant to be nasty or anything but how would anyone wanting to buy a house know the circumstances of the house next door

Velvet 04-23-2020 12:37 PM

How? Under normal circumstances, talk to the neighbors. We did it while they were outside, no knocking on doors. And visit the potential home and stay around to see what’s going on. There may still be surprises but fewer.

Mortal1 04-23-2020 07:52 PM

Yes there are people...

who call it tattling...those are usually the ones not following the "rules". Adults feel it's okay to rat out those who can't follow simple rules simply because they find it "inconvenient". We call them "entitled"...or old kids...some quite unpleasant when you tell them...

Ask the neighbors if you are truly serious about buying a house.

What a crying shame!

I believe that it's two people per bedroom.

What a crock. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Agree. Anyone making a false allegation such as that is criminal.

I'd try doing the same thing that you do with a drunken sailor ... ya "throw 'em in the lake with his pants on backwards"

not a lot else you can do until something serious happens

I was on an HOA board down in Ft Lauderdale and periodically we'd have the same issue....frustrating for the neighbors and the cops...

suggest that the neighbors reach out to the actual owner....if they have any integrity at all they might do a better job vetting their renters...if they don't have integrity nothing will change
