Slumlord
What can you do about a slumlord who is bringing Down our community?:posting::posting:
|
:bigbow::bigbow: No rentals
|
As your first post you have taken the most important step. Now tell us more details about what you've done wrong. If it's really bad tell us now. If it's small maybe it's better to wait for the PANDEMIC to lighten up a bit.
|
If there are violations, call community standards, otherwise, I am not sure what else can be done.

A definition of why you are using slum lord would be helpful

Someone who rentS to anyone to make a profit and doesn’t follow the rules of the villages these folks are 36 living on welfare and now there’s someone else moving in to rent a room in this house he is 72 no relation. It’s not a comfortable situation here with these people. Apparently the 36-year-old has a criminal record against a police officer, Research showed.

Sounds like a flophouse, not a slum.

Is it a violation of the covenants in your village to rent to people under 55, have roommates, or prohibit people with criminal records from living here? If so, you should report the violations. (Or "tattle" as some would call it.)

If there are any firearms or ammo in the house, a person with a felony conviction is in deep poop, speak to your county sheriff--you think you saw a gun

Chances are, given how many people have guns in Florida, there is a good chance that a criminal has one... maybe he does or maybe he doesn’t.

Sherriff is there about every 2 months but the legal system just spits them back out and nothing changes. The homes on either side are for sale with no takers in over 3 months. Sadly, I don't know there is anything community standards can do as long as they maintain a minimum standard of care. I guess they will eventually be arrested long enough to lose the house. |

Kelley Pope is very good. Her parents are also good. She can be reached at Kelley.Pope@villages.com

How? Under normal circumstances, talk to the neighbors. We did it while they were outside, no knocking on doors. And visit the potential home and stay around to see what’s going on. There may still be surprises but fewer.

Yes there are people...

I'd try doing the same thing that you do with a drunken sailor ... ya "throw 'em in the lake with his pants on backwards" not a lot else you can do until something serious happens I was on an HOA board down in Ft Lauderdale and periodically we'd have the same issue....frustrating for the neighbors and the cops... suggest that the neighbors reach out to the actual owner....if they have any integrity at all they might do a better job vetting their renters...if they don't have integrity nothing will change |
