Governor: Antibody survey shows wide exposure to virus in NY |
Although Covid is still a dangerous disease, this is better news than we've had for a while. From this study, and the two in California, it appears the fatality rate is "only" about .5% or 1 out of 200 people. That's better than the 3 or 4 out of a hundred we've been hearing about. Thanks for posting.
Excerpt: "As of Thursday, nearly 16,000 people in New York have died of virus-related complications. With 260,000-plus confirmed cases, the mortality rate would be as high as 6 percent. With 2.7 million cases, it would be around 0.5 percent -- much lower, though still much higher than the seasonal flu." |
10 times that have probably been infected by chicken pox

apparently, many of the tests provided by the cdc were improperly handled & contaminated with the virus itself. wouldnt that mess up all the numbers? imagine how many false positives there are/were, or even some who may have it, but the tests were invalid. & we're still waiting on the aids vaccine which was politically needed to approve a lifestyle behavior

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-res...igation-sm.pdf It’s interesting that if the recent testing in NYC is correct, then, as the article says, the fatality rate is 0.5% (only five times the usual rate of flu deaths), instead of 2.0% (twenty times the usual rate of flu deaths.) according to the above link, that means this is a Category 3 pandemic, rather than a Category 5 (the top level), and the projected deaths go way down, and the difficulty of mitigation changes. Here is the 2017 CDC update, which, again, we are pretty much following: Community Mitigation Guidelines to Prevent Pandemic Influenza — United States, 2017 | MMWR It cheers me to know that the mitigation efforts in the few months have been based on careful planning, rather than on a group of panicking people trying out ideas as they occur to them. |
Would be nice to have accurate numbers to judge whether our lockdown was really necessary.
Probably is but at what cost to people's lives. |
There is a vaccine for chickenpox

And yet there are numerous at risk individuals, including seniors who are on Medicare and can get the flu shot for zero cost, who still do not get the vaccine each season. The pneumonia shots are free as well. The same will happen again once a vaccine is available for human use. There is no solution as people are individually responsible for their own health well being
