Swimming

I am looking forward to starting lap swimming again, but the requirement to wear a mask "for all indoor and outdoor activities" could prove troublesome.

Wear an AquaLung

Once you finish your laps, you will need to get your mask dry so you can go to lunch and wear your mask! I keep looking for a mask with a little flap to open for a fork or stray. Haven't thought about a swimming face mask... just happy I have my own pool! No rules LOL

Chatbrat 04-30-2020 08:19 AM

Just saw the current aspect for sports pools when they open--a better way of doing this would open the pool for walkers for a certain time period & then open the pool for swimmers only

Their proposal will only allow 4 swimmers /hr & 35 walkers per hour

I suspect that they don't want to be changing the lane lines if they can avoid it, but allowing swimmers a whole hour is going to be frustrating for those waiting.

What time can I come over - and I hope you don't mind fur in the filter :-)

BruMar 04-30-2020 09:57 AM

Wearing a mask in an outdoor pool with spacing is ridiculous!

JoMar 04-30-2020 10:10 AM

I wonder how they will handle the crowds? Depending on time of day there was always a wait at the Sports pools. Sharing lanes was a help but now it seems there will only be 10 folks in the pool at a time. Who is the gate keeper?

I'm very sure swimming is exempt from the rule to wear a mask. Having a wet mask on the face will hinder inhalation then exhaling under water. Drowning is not on my hit parade.

According to today’s Rec Guide, there will be 4 laps (4 people) and the other 30 feet of the sports pool can contain a max of 35 people. I think those 35 need to somehow get in and stay in one place. If they move, they pass one another at very close proximity. Ever watch pool walkers? Lap swimmers aren’t 6 feet apart, either, but have much more room around them than walkers/exercisers. Just sayin’.

Agree, should be 1/2 hour or less. No chairs/benches, no standing around, get I swim and get out.

Yes, we just want to get swimming again; not training for the Olympics.

Still, we should be glad that things are starting to open up - I'm sure any problems will be quickly sorted out.

just cut a little hole in the mask for your snorkel and you'll be fine....wouldn't advise using a paper mask though

no, I made that mistake with my paper swimming shorts

Stu from NYC 05-01-2020 05:17 AM

Think we will wait a bit before we try a swimming pool again.

Don’t think that can apply to golf or swimming pools. That would make no sense whatsoever. Once you got a mask wet you wouldn’t even be able to breathe through it. Pretty sure they’re going to have to clarify that

DannoMac 05-01-2020 05:55 AM

Jethro Tull has my Aqualung. 🤣

gregcharlesnelson@gmail 05-01-2020 06:24 AM

I have sent a suggestion to The Villages that they go with half hour and see how that works out. Will post here if I get a reply.

Lots of people where masks while swimming. Perhaps you could slide by if you just wear swimming goggles instead of a swimmmask.

Zuul is the Gatekeeper

butch69 05-01-2020 10:39 AM

I agree 100%. Would make a lot more sense.

only if the government does it … overseas or in Gitmo (or anywhere else as long as they keep it quiet). Oh, I'm sorry, you asked if it was legal; I'm confusing that with do they do it :1rotfl:

Those masks are either snorkel masks or swim goggles.....totally different from the masks people are wearing now in public spaces to mitigate the corona virus.

John Rohan has come back saying that there will be plenty of slots at one hour.

I guess he hasn't done the math: 13 hours x 11 pools x 4 lanes = 572 slots per day

and that's across all sports pools all day - pick the wrong pool or the wrong time and you will be in for a long wait

Why is the Rec Dept so reluctant to take suggestions from those who actually use the facilities?

Chatbrat 05-01-2020 03:46 PM

Because he walks on water & is the rec center GOD

Because if they took suggestions from the hundreds that would give them which ones would they listen to? Everone has an opion and everyone believes their's is the right one. I suspect that if we start at this point and they can expand they will.....rather than start and need to contract.
