Hand Sanitizer

With Phase One starting soon, and the request for everyone to bring their own hand sanitizer..where can you find it? Would be great if Rec Centers or Restaurants who have access to commercial Supplies could offer a refilling station of sorts. I would be happy to pay for it but we’ve never been able to find any since this all started, nor the alcohol to make your own.

Good luck finding alcohol. It seems every store and pharmacy I've been in the shelves are empty. It seems to most of them aren't limiting the sale of it either. People have to be hoarding it because if they're following the guidelines they would'nt be needing the amount that's flying off shelves.:ohdear:

Think you have to bring your own Toilet paper

Since liquor stores are considered essential businesses I bought a bottle of everclear 190 proof grain alcohol. I mix it with some aloe vera gel to give it some texture and have a very powerful hand sanitizer.

Absolutely the bettah hack/solution! I baht the gallon jug and the 750 ml bahtle in early Mahch, and have been using it in a windex bahtle for cleaning store bought items. Aftah two months of using it liberahly, I just finished the 750 ml bottle, and just cracked open the big jug this weekend. I add extra alcohol to the existing hand sanitizah to make it stronger. The aloe vera gel we baht to mix with it isn't very gely. . . if that is a word :ohdear:

Sorry for the new englahnd ahccent! :blahblahblah:

A problem not too much discussion is the fact that in many businesses that provide hand sanitizer and toilet paper.....customers are stealing the product.....yes they take the toilet paper and sanitizer.

Mleeja 04-30-2020 04:35 PM

Everclear 190 is about 95% alcohol by volume.

CoachKandSportsguy 04-30-2020 04:38 PM

Can't sell 190 proof in FL

So I googled this statement, not knowing if it was fact or not, and many google quotes came back saying that 190 proof spirit sales in a bunch of states is illegal. However, I did buy mine in one of the states which was quoted as being illegal, so I am not so certain that either laws haven't changed, or that the information is incorrect.

Next time you are out to a major liquor store, I would ask for a factual up to date answer.

Ive bought from this site

Walmart and Target both have hand sanitizer, usually. Last time I went to Walmart a few days ago they had a bunch of bottles on a display near the beauty aisles.

Yes, it has to be 60% or higher in order to be effective. Ethyl alcohol has another more common name: grain alcohol. That's the stuff in Everclear 190 and all other booze. It is the type of alcohol most commonly used in sanitizers, which is why so many people keep saying if they can't find sanitizer to buy grain alcohol from the liquor store and dilute it with aloe vera.

Roberta Forcina 05-01-2020 06:05 AM

You do not just have to use alcohol or bleach. Any cleaner such as 409, lestoil, etc that kills bacteria can be used. I cut up paper towels and soak them. Then put them into a zip lock and use as needed. Not hard to do.

Ask one of the hoarders.

MandoMan 05-01-2020 06:13 AM

I haven’t seen hand sanitizer for sale for two months. I was lucky enough to find a couple liters of 91% rubbing alcohol (in a two-pack). I keep some in a spray bottle in my car. I spray the shopping cart handles before touching them. I spray my hands and rub them together. I spray a paper towel when I need to grab a door handle or a gas pump handle. I keep the sprayer in my shopping cart while shopping. That’s at least as good as hand sanitizer, though I can’t carry it in my purse. That’s okay. I don’t carry a purse, anyway.

merrymini 05-01-2020 06:20 AM

Walgreens has a large size of it’s own brand of hand sanitizer. I bought it yesterday at the Burnsed store.

Bridget Staunton 05-01-2020 06:20 AM

CVS at corner of Hwy 466 and Hwy 301 yesterday, their center isle had full displays of house brand hand sanitizer. Limit 1. They had a lot of it. Also sell individual face masks for $1.99 on request at front checkout, limit 1. Also had TP. Eureka!

Tracy Turnbull 05-01-2020 07:18 AM

Walmart had plenty of both yesterday. Go early.

Everclear and aloe idea is a winner. Had some mixture sent from Illinois.

Chemsull 05-01-2020 09:11 AM

I don't live in The Villages, but my mother does. I live in the Boston are, and sell industrial supplies. I just wanted to mention that you are not going to see hand sanitizer or disinfectants on the shelf for a long time. In the industrial market, suppliers are on allocation with products like Purell, and raw materials are hard to come by. Hospitals and first responders are the top priority right now. The Villages might have tried to order dispensers and sanitizer, or maybe will try to order dispenser, but they simply are unavailable. I had to tell a customer of mine this morning that needed products for a live in program that we have nothing in stock; nor, do we know when it will come in. Good luck.

bpascani 05-01-2020 09:44 AM

where do you get aloe vera gel please?

daddymac1127 05-01-2020 09:52 AM

Where? there's not a CVS at 466 & 301.

JayDo 05-01-2020 09:52 AM

Villages will not supply works with anything why would they supply residents with anything

coastalnh 05-01-2020 10:20 AM

Go to ETSY.COM which is a marketplace for small businesses. There are many places like Beauty Salons that are making and selling hand sanitizers. And its a lot cheaper than the price gauged Wildwood Pharmacy that wanted $8 for 2 oz.
