Pool - pool pump timer - not working
2 Attachment(s)
The timer that controls when the pool pump turns on / turns off has stopped moving.
The “pull to change time” wheel is not stuck or disengage - it’s where it should be to rotate properly. Of course I can manually activate the pool pump but the timer is a real benefit. I searched forum - no related posts that I can find. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be? Or Any recommendations for repair person other then TD? |
Is there a tripped breaker?
|
Unfortunately.....no

Just try and reset the right lower two 20 Amp beakers and see, but they look fully energized to ON... Is your Pool light working, if not then its another breaker thats trip that feeds your Pool Panel? |
I am former life we used timers very similar to this one, when they stopped, it was usually the internal motor that went bad, time (on pun intended) to get a new timer. You may be able to double check this by using a meter on the terminals of the timer to see if it is getting voltage, if it is, bad motor, if it is not getting voltage something else is bad.
PM me if you need additional help. |

I’m falling on the same conclusion that villagetinker is indicating - bad timer. |

This house/pool is 12 yo and the box/timer appear to be original...so no surprise that it failed on my watch!! Thanks - will pm if needed. I’ll just get my saws all and get to work exposing the timer housing!! |

The timer motor has gone bad. It happens. You should be able to “turn off power”, and remove the guts with the timer wheel. You can replace the whole mechanism or just the motor. TD’s should have one... or online.

Hello, That's a basic , inexpensive timer. 30 years maintenance electrician, timer motor , $20. If no motor sound, replace. 775 4245

photo1902 You might also seriously consider upgrading to digital. Best of luck. Thank you my good people - will be resolving today and will also post a detailed conclusion here for future folks who need this info. |
we just replaced 2 for a hoa's pool lights,,, electro-mechanical things do wear out,,, digital replacements should perform far longer
|
Good call in the breaker, usually the spot I start as well...
|
yes....i am going to look into the digital side. There are a few factors that need balancing!
|
Where are the trips that attach to the timer wheel that trip the timer to turn off and on. I do not see them. They clamp to the outside of the wheel.

Keep it simple!

Thank you, least of all the two of us actually looked at the provided picture to noticed the trip arms are missing.
Most likely the last pool person that worked on the pool for whatever removed them. Replacement ones can be purchased from Lowe's or Home Depot. " Always look at the simple before condemning the expensive! " |

Great observation by both of you! I took those off before shooting the pic.... |
call the pool store. they can fix it for you

Bad timer as everyone said. You don't need the Walsall. Home depot carriers the 105 series replacement for $62. 30 minutes to replace the timer
|
Picked up new control at home depot, less than $60 and installed it myself.
|
If that is a picture of your timer there are now on and off pens on the time will look in the bottom of the case

For you bragones and all the future folks who search this topic. Purchased a new timer motor from “pinch a penny pool” on 27/441 lady lake. $45 No need for the switch component as that was not defective. Removal, replacement and instillation was a cake walk. Make sure your garage breaker AND the unit (box the timer is housed in) breakers are off. Mark and photo the wires before removing the timer unit. 3 photos attached - one shows new timer next to failed timer. Two shows the timer unit reinstalled. Note that it just clips in place. Three shows a window that exposes black wheels. The timer unit only works when those black wheels are turning. PM me if u need additional info. |
