Polo Facilities Closed

I am not the smartest guy in the Villages, Heck. I am probably not even in the top 50%. I do have a question and hope for a sensible answer. I was a avid user of the polo fields grounds. Walking, flying model airplanes and kites weekly. As of today the polo grounds are closed to all activities. Most were used by persons not having even a remote possibility of people gathering together.. As of today, we can go to any restaurant and be seated with conditions but none the less, seated and dine. Please explain why we can eat with others not wearing masks or gloves, yet we cannot walk, fly kites or any activity where the wearing of masks would be so easy.

Have contacted those in charge of the Polo fields with your question? There could be a simple and reasonable reason.

1. Sometimes the people who make rules are dumb as rocks.
2. The people who own it figure there is zero revenue from walkers, kite flyers etc so why keep it open and pay someone to monitor use.

:ohdear: Funny way of saying "Thank you" for allowing us to use it for free all this time. It doesn't belong to us..... it's private property that has been open and maintained for the nearly 16 years we have lived here. Maybe the Family sees ZERO thanks for that from some people.

Please let us all know when YOU build your Polo Grounds and open it for everyone to use.

You hit the nail on the head.

Are the tents still out for testing

Don’t the developers own the polo fields?

No the tents have been down for several days now.
The sign says polo fields are closed but the gate is open. In the past when the polo fields were closed they also closed the gates.
People like to use the track for walking.

SacDQ 05-05-2020 06:27 AM

I believe there was a rumor floating around at the end of last year that that land was being converted for a high end development project. 💰💰💰💰💰

Maude Hall 05-05-2020 06:40 AM

Not sure if this could be the reason, but in the past May has been polo month. Could they be getting ready to still have polo, but due to current events had to change things around? Just a thought. but then again, just a thought is how rumors start. Have a nice day

toeser 05-05-2020 06:52 AM

I join you in your request to have the developers reopen the Polo Grounds. I know it is their private property, but it is probably the safest place on the entire north side of The Villages for outdoor activities. Plenty of separation for walks, bike rides, dog walks, etc. with little chance of being hit by a golf cart.

Please consider, owners, and thank you for making your property available to us in the past.

laughing at the silliness of this whiney OP complaining that somebody took something away from him....and they don't understand why

you should complain to the school boards that you want to be able to use the football fields while you're at it
...at least you could argue that your tax dollars in some small way fund it

EviesGP 05-05-2020 08:00 AM

Sorry, OP, but you should know by now that once you entertain even the slightest question on this forum, you'll get responses from the usual smarmy trolls, who hang out here, waiting to pounce, and add their comments. The owners intended to create this place for the enjoyment and greatest experience of the residents, so merely asking about the status of this facility is quite reasonable. Just ignore these idiots, and take note who they are. You'll see them again. Cheers!

Be careful.....your entitlement is showing...AGAIN !

PugMom 05-05-2020 08:25 AM

our village has a designated area for kite-flying, & battery operated racing cars/boats. i see people out there more frequently since the shutdown. it's in the Everglades rec center, just over the bridge on warm springs ave., & you can also use 301 thru fenney, but it's always under more construction than the other roads. it's a nice area & we are friendly. come check it out when you get the chance

bmit16 05-05-2020 09:10 AM

Ironically I notice the Village Polo group is there every Sunday morning with their horses practicing. I saw at least 10 horse trailers there a couple Sundays ago. I was wondering then, why do they get to practice polo when we can't practice softball. Then I realized, the owners don't play softball. I am glad at least they got to do what they wanted. I just wish it was evenly distributed. I am not one to complain because a group gets to do their thing. I complain that people can't do their thing. Don't die trying not to get the virus. It is your duty to protect yourself, not anyone err elses duty to protect you. Stop looking for others to do for you what you can do for yourself. Germaphobics, get over yourselves. Not my job to keep you from catching something, its on you.

newgirl 05-05-2020 09:17 AM

I live on the field and the horses are back and practice games are going on.

Dlbonivich 05-05-2020 09:18 AM

Actually they are practicing and holding matches not open to the public. Also that is the testing site for Covid-19.

RonGee 05-05-2020 09:36 AM

As said the Polo Facility is not owned by the Villages. It is private property and they have been kind enough to allow us to utilize their property. There could be extenuating circumstances during this pandemic.

perkfarm 05-05-2020 09:48 AM

Polo Fields

I for one am very appreciative of the Villages to allow us to walk around the polo fields. It's a great place for walkers, bikers and dog walkers. By the way....they opened up the Polo fields this morning.

Rosebud1949 05-05-2020 10:08 AM

Well said Don5154.. you got it !!!!!

The OP asked a simple question. To all of those replies with a snarky response, I ask, have you never heard the admonition, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all? There's a lot of false bravado (and incivility) behind a computer keyboard it seems. When I read the comments on this forum, at times, I have to wonder how TV garnered the reputation as America's friendliest home town.

I'm a member of the kite club. The president of the club sent out an e-mail to club members on Monday, May 4th saying the polo field will be available beginning on May 5th for members to fly kites. He got permission from those in charge of the polo field. Previously the field was closed for kite flying because the field was used for virus testing.

Not to provoke a tête-à-tête with you but, I didn't say "only pick the first response"

Yes, for polo was the intent. If anyone disagrees with another’s opinion they are smarmy. How precious are some opinions and others unworthy but that is how entitlement works. It’s private property, period.

So, would it be okay to ride horses all over the ball diamonds?

This comment does not discuss the subject at all which pertains to the use of the private polo fields.

Ooper 05-07-2020 11:20 PM

I've been walking around the polo fields almost every morning since the last week in April. All the gates are open, kite flyers are there now as well as the Eflyers with numerous grounds keepers and walkers.
