Can you put regular TV outside on lanai?

We want to put a TV outside on covered lanai. Do we need special outdoor TV or will regular TV be ok outside? Who has experience with regular TV on lanai?

Yes, I have 60 inch LED tv hung in my lanai. Still works fine after 4 years. They make "outdoor tvs" but they are expensive. Flat screens are so cheap these days why bother.

billethkid 05-06-2020 10:24 AM

65" Vizio on lanai for 5 years....no problems.

Play Nice !!!

Think of your neighbors. They may not appreciate your TV. These "kissing Lanais" are real close.

I have a flat screen that I bought off of the clearance shelf at Sam's. I bought the extended warranty, just in case, but haven't needed it. I bring it inside if there is a hurricane.

TVs on Lanais

We've had the same regular 40" Samsung on our lanai since July 2012...never had a problem with it. If required, replacing a regular TV a couple times would be cheaper than getting an "outside TV." :coolsmiley:

I am always considerate of my neighbors. We have no kissing lanai, and the only neighbor next to our lanai is a golf course and starter shack. I'm certain they don't mind us watching nighttime TV on our lanai. :boxing2:

I have a cheap 32 inch Dynex I bought 8 years ago. Been on the lanai since then. I bought a cover for it to keep the moisture out.
No issues.

I wondered about whether the humidity would interfere with the electronics. Does this cover surround the tv, or just the front? How does that work?

I've had a wall mounted tv on the lanai for the past 6 years. Never covered it...not once. Including during the "hurricanes", strong summer storms, etc. No issues, ever.

Rather listen to re runs of I love Lucy from a neighbor than smell a nasty cigar of barking dogs, worse yet a neighbor with both

golfing eagles 05-06-2020 03:37 PM

Have had a 60" Sharp Aquos on the lanai wall since Feb 2014. Not covered, left out in hurricanes, no problem whatsoever. Irma took part of my back roof off when the wind came from the east across the golf course, the TV was fine.

OrangeBlossomBaby 05-06-2020 03:52 PM

Just a couple of concerns really, involving placement. You'll want to make sure the sun doesn't shine on it during the times you expect to be using it. Reason: glare. Unless you have a way of eliminating glare from an open lanai, such as a pull-down shade, you really need to consider placement.

Also, again because you said it's an outdoor lanai and I"m assuming you mean an open-air one and not screened in - consider whether a stiff breeze on a rainy day is going to send water too close for comfort to the TV. So placement once again.

Rain/wind risk, plus sun/glare risk. Solve that and you should be good to go.

Boilerman 05-06-2020 07:25 PM

TV on our lanai for 2 years, uncovered, no problems what so ever.

I want to see the dog smoking the cigar. Please!! The whole barking part is a bonus.

Heidis mom 05-07-2020 06:12 AM

I have a regular tv from my old house. Put it up on my lanai and got a canvas tv cover. It works fine and my lanai is screened. I live out here!!

Is this a real question, as far as I know their is not an outdoor TV.

mimi13 05-07-2020 06:26 AM

We have a regular flatscreen mounted in the lanai wall; works great, we love it.

There absolutely are outdoor rated televisions, but they are not cheap.

But for sets installed on a lanai, a regular tv works just fine

Sunflower1 05-07-2020 06:46 AM

We have a regular TV. So far so good.

Bethwill 05-07-2020 06:49 AM

We have had a regular TV on the labia for 5 years now. Used to keep a beach towel over it so it could breathe, but we now have lania enclosed. Works fine as long as you can see the screen. We used to bring it inside for hurricanes.

Where yours is installed must be painful :)

JBarracks 05-07-2020 06:55 AM

You can always use set up a bluetooth connection to keep neighbors from hearing your tv.

TandHSTAR@AOL.com 05-07-2020 07:05 AM

When you say covered lenai does it only have screening and solid roof. That's cinsidered a screen room. Lenai has solid roof and windows but no A/C and heat. We have a lenai and have a regular tv for many years. No problem. If you have what is considered a screen room you should not have any trouble as long as it's far enough away where the rain cannot reach it. My neighbor has one and has had no problem. .

What we have here are lanai's. A solid covered room with two, or sometimes three solid walls. The remaining areas have screens.

Villagesgal 05-07-2020 07:20 AM

Have had a 32 inch flat-screen on lanai for 18 years. I unplug it if there is a storm but leave it out, never had a problem.

Neighbors t's do not bother me, but a fire pouring smoke into my house when I want to have the windows open really irritates me. TV's is not out in the country somewhere that you can openly burn. Use a propane pit if you have to do this. Enjoy the tv

Just a strong WIFI signal. I got a WIFI extender free from T-Mobile since I have my phone account with them. However, you can by one for about $100 Best Buy or Amazon. M y assumption is you have a Smart TV.

Dlbonivich 05-07-2020 08:05 AM

Lived in Florida forever had one on my lanai for 10 years no problem. They do sell covers if you want one, I never had one.

Ouch. I've heard of watching TV with an iPad on one's chest in bed, but this is even more interesting.

Or a neighbor who plays the entire Meatloaf album full blast on his lanai. So glad I don't live in the house we had rented next to him. Feel sorry for his neighbors, even the ones on the other side of the golf course.

Spike380 05-07-2020 09:14 AM

We bought a regular tv-mounted it on the wall with a swing out arm (so we can watch anywhere). Works better than the inside tv's. TVs are so reasonable, get one and enjoy!

Sheldon5663 05-07-2020 09:16 AM

Thank you for your input on the outside T.V. everyone ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž

cassjax2 05-07-2020 09:18 AM

We have a small flat screen on our screened lanai. It sits on a small table and we put a plastic bag over it to protect from dust, etc, and we bring it in during a hurricane. Its been outside for 3 1/2 years. As far as neighbors being annoyed there's never been a problem because we donโ€™t turn volume way up and we are in a courtyard villa with a wall behind.

NJSonja 05-07-2020 09:44 AM

just curious

when do we get to think of ourselves? thankfully I knew better than to move where there is a kissing lanai...I have a tv but no one can hear it...too far from the other folks...

Was the original comment more about reception? I take it that there is no no cable and they are asking if an antenna is needed. I would think that some sort of antenna would be necessary.
