New Apts. no age limit, income restricted on 466 just past Morse Blvd.

Looks like we will be getting a bunch of new neighbors soon. The Lake Sumter Apts. currently under construction on Hwy 466 adjacent to TV appears to be government subsidized housing. Their amenities list includes being very convenient to Sumter Landing and Brownwood on their website.

Oh my

Working Class and lower income people living near us , OH My Lion, Tigers and Bears . I’m putting my home up for sale before property values crash

Topspinmo 05-12-2020 10:04 AM

Those are not in the villages or associated with developers, so it’s none of villages business. The squareS are open to public. But, if developers wanted to stop it I’m sure they could have just like they did off CR466 and B/V in that little square plot behind the hotel next to the family compounds.

With Brownwood apartments Now in district 13 what stopping the developers to building them throughout the districts and over crowding already crowded districts.
I see this in the potential in district 4 off cr42 by Phillips and souliere. Can crowd another 500 apartment in the open land in both areas. Also around saddlebrook, maybe one day the polo field will be 1000’s of apartments. Lot cheaper to build up than across.

Is that yet another development company on site?

davem4616 05-13-2020 06:23 AM

I say great!

The folks that live outside TV and work inside TV are very important to TV lifestyle.

Beachykeengifts 05-13-2020 06:31 AM

No.....it’s just like the Rolling Acres you can’t have income higher then a set amount. Rolling Acres use to $2000 a month. Also they have a lower set income for seniors so this is a good thing not bad....great place for TV employees

newgirl 05-13-2020 06:58 AM

It is desperately needed if The Villages are going to need employees. There is 50 applications for every apt under 1350 a month and if young people can not find affordable housing close by ,the service industry will go down hill fast.
Be grateful, this will make The Villages restaurants, stores, etc. run smoothly with great service. More young folks, better choice of employees, happier everyone is!!

That makes perfect sense.

Just as urban areas are finding out that it takes those, who some people would otherwise and previously turn their noses up at, to maintain basic services - TV also needs lots of employees to maintain the massive infrastructure.

I can't believe some genius implied we would all need alarms on our homes now because of the new apartments

For more than 20 years I owned a self storage facility surrounded by apartments and enjoyed good rental income. Then the city granted Section 8 status to the apartments. The crime soon became so bad around my property that business people in the area started carrying hand guns at all times. Because the apartments lost their decent tenants the neighborhood changed and my rentals greatly diminished as potential customers no longer felt safe in the neighborhood. My business experienced several burglaries. Twice when I tried to visit the property the police department had crime tape up and swat teams out doing drug busts among the surrounding apartments. At that point I sold the property - cheap!

Based on my experience I would recommend getting a high quality alarm system installed along with cameras to anyone living near low income apartments as such apartments can attract drug dealers and addicts and criminals of every stripe.

I'm way more concerned with 30-something and 40-something deadbeat offspring living INSIDE The Villages than I am hardworking residents in nearby apartments outside The Villages.

Take away the crimes of the spawn and there wouldn't be enough news to report.

MJY10101 05-13-2020 09:59 AM

I see this as a great opportunity for a more diverse population. This is what I miss the most after moving here from the Northeast.

Can anyone show me a Section 8 Apartment complex that didn't turn into a crime filled nightmare?

Where would you like people to live? I know how first hand how hard it is to find a decent place around here never mind an affordable one. I went thru it with my Daughter it's rough. So what IF the people who live there visit TV it's open to everyone. How many who work here need place to live nearby. Yes IF they have Children & If they go to the Charter School so what. They don't get a bus the parents have to provide transportation. We need people to work here and they need a place to live.

John_W 05-13-2020 11:35 AM

This new apartment complex is nothing new, 300 yards further east on 466 is Rolling Acres Apartments. It's for low income families, looking at past history, how has the residents there effected the Haciendas of Mission Hills or the homes in the Village of La Zamora? Are cars being vandalized at American Legion? Those are all within a 1/2 mile. Yes, that's true, couples cannot earn more than $34,000 to live in those apartments. They look neat as a pin to me.

People, take off the rose colored glasses. A better option would to build a mobile home park with affordable homes that workers could actually own and have a place for their families. I lived in an apartment complex that went section 8. After 5 years, we had 2 murders. That last year I was there waiting to retire down here, we had an animal living in our building who would go around and punch holes in your door. You want your workers living in that kind of terror, I don't think so. This is a nightmare waiting to happen. It is not the workers you have to worry about. It is the others that live off the system that eventually move in there and destroy it. Do you think section 8 people in Orlando or Leesburg who live off the system will not hear about this complex and think much better to live there. Trust me that is going to be the norm in 10 years.

TandHSTAR@AOL.com 05-13-2020 11:49 AM

Thank . what happened to common sense. We all rely on services where do you want these people to live. They will not have the use of our ammenities. Squares are not part of our ammenities. Shops are there for all to use. Calm down. I have heard people post they are selling before house prices drop. Oh my God. Where do you get your information.

I totally agree, but won't be surprised if an ugly and repulsive attitude soon shows its face.

Yes, Section 8. For those providing services to folk who live in The Villages. Probably a place to live for the waitress or bartender at places like The Chop House or some of Country clubs in The Villages.

graciegirl 05-13-2020 04:03 PM

I do not like subsidized housing for a variety of reasons.. All around us there is a wide variety of homes that are inexpensive to rent or even own for all levels of income. I hate it when people seem to think that everyone who lives in The Villages all had their home and lifestyle fall on us. Most of us moved through the ranks of not very much to get here. It is a matter of principle and life philosophy for me that I don't like subsidized housing. Normal housing that is not expensive is an option, that is the reason I say this. For some reason in my life, no matter what the subsidized housing seem to draw crime and it has NOTHING to do with color, creed. race, religion or income. There is no shame in low income neighborhoods. Most of us have been there. But for some reasons the housing built and administered by the government seems to have unusual problems.

I paid my dues and deserve a senior retirement community. Worked with kids all my life, now I want to spend time with adults. Pretty soon we'll have to open a waterpark here to entertain the families. Don't get me wrong, I love my children and grandkids, and lived only 5 minutes away from them for years. I don't mind them visiting me, but I don't want them or other peoples kids around me every day. That's why I moved to TV, and like some of the bloggers, I'm am not ashamed to admit my real feelings.

Yeah, if I had read all of the comments before posting my own,, the usual code words and ugliness are pretty easy to see between the lines.

Can you also tell the weather a month in advance, or the stock market a year ahead?

Or do you just prognosticate housing trends?

mulligan 05-13-2020 06:12 PM

Funny how the people who will look at those apartments as a great place to live with a short commute to their workplace are good enough to build your homes, landscape and finish them, clean up after you. cut the grass on your golf courses, serve you in the restaurants, and even empty your bedpan and wipe your butt when you're on the way out, but they're not good enough to sit down next to at the square and have a drink.

Yep. :agree:

It will be interesting to see if the apartments actually become and remain occupied by decent law abiding citizens who work at various jobs within the villages or by deadbeats and undesirables who commit crimes and cause problems.

One thing is certain, their housing costs come out of our pockets via our hard earned tax dollars.
