Corrupted text on TOTV

2 Attachment(s)
I’m using an iPad Pro. Beginning 5/13, text is corrupted both in the forums and individual messages. I’ve opened a TOTV ticket but curious if anyone else is seeing the same corrupted text?

villagetinker 05-13-2020 07:11 PM

Is it possible you changed a font setting on your computer? I am not familiar enough with your equipment to go beyond that suggestion. Perhaps someone in the Apple group can comment.

Yes, the comma after “yes” is under the “s” etc.

REDCART 05-13-2020 07:46 PM

No changes other than an iPad reboot to see if that would clear up the corrupted text.

It is happening as well on other sites such as Facebook. A new nasty virus of another form. I have no patience with new nasty viruses.

Bjeanj 05-13-2020 08:14 PM

Yes, I have an iPad 2(?) and noticed it today.

Blackie 05-13-2020 08:40 PM

Try a different browser.

I am using the “Duck Duck Go” browser on my iPad and have no issues.

Safari and Firefox browsers (on my iPad) have this problem.

I started having the same problem on my ipad today.

Velvet 05-13-2020 09:03 PM

I’m trying Duckduckduckgo and yes, still the same problem on iPad. iPhone also has same problem - my iOS was automatically updated last night. Rebooting changed nothing.

MSchad 05-14-2020 03:48 AM

Same problem with my iPhone after update. Hmmmm. Let’s see how fast another update comes out.

I also use an iPad Pro, using software 13.3.1. I didn’t post anything yesterday, but as you can see, I am certainly having trouble now with punctuation and spacing. I did not have any problems yesterday when text messaging or writing in FaceBook.

Boeing 737 05-14-2020 05:29 AM

Same happening to me. iPad Pro 12.9" 2018. Latest software. iPad OS 13.4.1

Yucatan2 05-14-2020 05:39 AM

Yes I see it too, including on many messages in this thread. Why would we not think the problem is with Talk of the Villages website, not our various computers or browser/ search engine choices? I don’t see this looking at other websites, only here.
Look at all the errors just in this post!

Windguy 05-14-2020 05:43 AM

I’m having the same issue and it’s only with TotV. I just noticed it today. I’m using an iPad, but with the old 13.3.1 version of iOS. It happens with both Safari and Chrome. This sure looks like a TotV issue. I’ll try it with my computer later to see if it shows there, if it happens just with posts made with an iPad, or if it is with all posts.

Blackie 05-14-2020 06:00 AM

My iPad with “Duck Duck Go” browser is still fine, no corrupt text. Safari and Firefox still has the problem.

So using Safari I switched back to the old version of TOTV and the problem went away (same on Firefox).

So it seems to be this new version of TOTV that is the issue.

To clarify - I am using the “Duck Duck Go” browser APP with no issue.

allus70 05-14-2020 06:02 AM

Yup
Happening on my Ipad too

Pedrocarrasco01@yahoo.com 05-14-2020 06:07 AM

I use an IPad mini.

I use an iPad mini yes I have noticed corruption Problems, but only with TOT mine started since it downloaded the newest operating system I have had a lot of issues but as you know Apple downloads are automatically loaded, hopefully someone would help us!!!!!!!!

M2inOR 05-14-2020 06:08 AM

Yep. Me too, iPad 7 with Chrome.

Similar issue on Android Samsung S3 tablet and Chrome, but not on my Android phone.

Similar issue on Windows 10 with Chrome.

If I copy/paste text into a word document, no corruption of the text.

I deduce a problem on the Talk of the Villages side.

I did not make it clear in my original post but I am using the “Duck Duck Go” IOS browser app.

I did not mean that I am accessing the TOTV website through the “Duck Duck Go” search engine in the Safari browser.

The “Duck Duck Go” app is working fine for me.

DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser on the App Store

M2inOR 05-14-2020 06:22 AM

If you revert to the old version of the website, no text issues.

There is a link to revert if you scroll to the bottom of the page, and reload.

Yucatan2 05-14-2020 06:38 AM

Very interesting.....I went to the old version and the text error is gone! But if I follow a link in the e-mail from the Villages it goes to the new version.....

RRman77 retired 05-14-2020 06:40 AM

I have a mini ipad that is so old it is scarey and am not having problems

stan the man 05-14-2020 06:41 AM

could be a virus in the new version.

davem4616 05-14-2020 06:44 AM

I'm seeing misplaced commas after a few other words,

at first I thought my fingers were just getting ahead of each other and tried to correct it

Moderator 05-14-2020 06:47 AM

Interesting. I’m using an iPad Pro, 1st gen, updated to 13.4.1 on the new site version with no errors showing. Using Safari. While I can see the errors on the screenshot, none appear in any of the posts or threads I’ve viewed today or yesterday, even the ones that mention how bad their post appears to them.

Moderator 05-14-2020 06:51 AM

Different Mod here...on a Windows 10 desktop and also seeing these "corrupted" text posts. We will alert the system owners. I doubt it is any kind of virus...probably something in how fonts are translated.

Mod 2

RRman77 retired 05-14-2020 06:54 AM

oops spoke too soon, yesterday everthing fine. Today not so much!

theruizs 05-14-2020 07:06 AM

I have an iPad Pro and have he same issue. Could it also be related to the recent update to 13.4.1?

oneclickplus 05-14-2020 07:24 AM

Major IOS update for all Apple devices last night and the night before.

I see NO issues on my Windows laptop.

La lamy 05-14-2020 07:42 AM

Just want to see if my MacBook Air is experiencing these issues. Looks okay so far.

wiltma 05-14-2020 07:45 AM

Update your pro. I am not having these problems as of yet

Something to do with the latest update maybe? If so I would hope Apple would quickly fix it. No problems yet on my 3 year old iPhone se

cathy34787 05-14-2020 08:29 AM

Yep mine appears weird too. After the last update to my iPhone

Yes, I am seeing the same issue on my iphone 11. Since update. All words around commas and apostrophes are affected. But only in this forum.

No. I’m still on 13.3.1.

polaris 05-14-2020 09:14 AM

Chiming in just to say that I’m not having any issues with the text on either my iPhone or iPad, both running 13.4.1.

iPad os 13.4.1 was released more than a month ago. There have been no recent iPad os updates that might explain the corrupted text. It’s most likely a recent TOTV format change.

Boeing 737 05-14-2020 10:14 AM

All seems sorted now!

Yes, back to normal with the default "new" version of the forum software.

I wonder what had happened...

Abelardo 05-14-2020 01:31 PM

iPad Script

I have three iPads. The two newer ones were just updated and now both experience the same script problems as others have noted. The third iPad is a very early version and no longer receives Apple updates. No script problems with the old "non updated" iPad
