"President Obama will make history as the first sitting president on a daytime talk show when he visits with the ladies of "The View." But he'll be missing out on another historic occasion -- the Boy Scouts' Jamboree marking the group's 100th anniversary, right in the president's backyard.

The Jamboree kicked off this week at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia, where organizers had invited the president to speak to the 45,000 scouts in attendance. All three of Obama's predecessors have made it to one Jamboree while in office."

I am not exactly sure how I feel about this nor the importance but it does fall under the Obama litany of change !!!! There are a few blistering opinion pieces and editorials about the President going on the view to obviously sell and politic which is just about all he does ! It IS change !

Looks like our Kenyan President is more worried about his slipping numbers then he is about something as American as the Scouts. It is probably a good thing. Why soil such an honorable event with his presence.

That's what I said this morning in a discussion with my husband Pats. Well, minus the Kenyan thing. He could have sent Michelle, but I suppose she's getting ready for her trip to the luxury resort of Marbella in southern Spain. And then she'll be busy preparing for their vacation in Florida and then off to Martha's Vineyard...busy, busy, busy.

The Boy Scouts of America is an American institution, why would he attend? At least the scouts will not have to worry about Obama coming to the next Jamboree, he will not be the president!!!!

I will wait till after the show to see what is talked about. Keep in mind that the view has millions of liberal viewers. It is important to address the folks that put him in office as well as those that want him dead and gone.

doesn't really matter what he said - viewers of the show vote - scouts do not...just another campaign and fund raising stop on his schedule.

I suppose what you are saying is that POLITICS is the most important and THAT is one thing I have criticized this man for because he painted a TOTALLY different picture while campaigning yet almost everything that he does is aimed at only POLITICS !

November is right around the corner. He is doing what he needs to get the message out to his voters that the mid term elections are very important.

That is exactly right. He is campaigning. Not saying there's anything wrong with that. As long as we are all clear what he is doing.

Here is my problem with this...he is the President of the United States...we have two wars going..one very badly (not his fault but it is a big war going badly)...we have very high unemployment.....among a number of other problems and he is going to be on THE VIEW.

Well, again Lou......I get your point but that is one of the HUGE criticisms of him...his eternal, ongoing POLITICING when he preached and preached that there was change and this White House has become, with no contradiction, the single most political White House in history.

If that is what you want in your President.....fine..you got it. It always seems to be about politics and nothing more. Would love for him to have an open press conference like other Presidents instead of these "stunts" but everything this man does is totally controlled.

That is all he knows how to do. He has never run anything in his life and he surrounds himself with government hacks who never held a private sector job. Attack, defend and campaign.

I wanted to stay away, but no one stepped up to keep this site in focus. Also, bucco gave me instructions as to the way to do my posts on this site that would not cause as many flames. (Thanks Mr Bucco) So far it has been working better. I have toned it down a notch and only have one person that continues to bite at my heals so maybe I will do some good here. I do wish at least one other Liberal would step up, but I do understand. Mention Obama and anything positive and about 5 of you die hard right wing radicals will tear your head off. I am going to try to be a little harder on the left and I am reading some recommended information sites in an attempt to at least understand why the right hates the man so bad. I have even made a promise that if I can find proof that he intends to hurt this county, I will change allegiance.

Ditto. I suppose Obama may be afraid of angering the ACLU who tried to put an end to the jamboree in 2006. The Boy Scouts of America have held the jamboree at this location in Caroline County, Va., since 1981. I've heard they are moving their jamborees to Beckley, WVa., after this year.

this made me wonder who paid for this junket...did the dnc pay for it because he was doing two fund-raisers in nyc at nite...or did taxpayers pay for it because of the lame excuse for a business summit with four small business owners from nj holed up in a sandwich shop in edison?...do you have any idea?...i am looking all around to find a report on that part of the trip...so far i can only find that it cost the town of edison thousands of dollars - but the mayor is glad to pay it because, after all, it was the potus!...glad it wasn't my town and that she is not my mayor!

See, this is the thing Lou. You always go too far. You can't just comment on an issue without attacking anyone you think might be of a different mind, in either a passive or aggressive mode. The only one who has ever used the term "want him dead and gone" in referring to the President IS YOU!!

You really have to try to discuss an issue without assuming that those who disagree with you are idiots. You do this and wonder why you get harsh replies to your posts. Wise up.

Does it matter that Ronald Reagan and ELEVEN OTHER Presidents never attended a Boy Scout Jamboree?

djplong, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Reagan was recuperating from cancer surgery when he missed the jamboree but Nancy attended on his behalf.

In 2001, Bush 43 didn't attend because of heavy storms but conducted a video conference. Clinton didn't attend in 1993 because of storms and did the video conference as well.

In 1969, Nixon didn't attend, but he did attend events in 1953 and 1957 when he was Vice President. Gerald Ford was an Eagle Scout.

For what it is worth, this year is the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts.
