Granite countertops

any recommendations on where to go for new granite countertops, who to install?

or where/who to stay away from.

Michigan Farmer 05-17-2020 06:55 AM

We had a very bad experience with Wildwood Kitchen and Bath that ended up with my wife and I winning a claim against them in small claims court. Please stay away, far away from WK&B.

Thanks for starting this thread. This is going to be our first project once we can have people come into our home with no worries.

there's a place on Rolling Acre Road just beyond the Wood Working shop (as you head toward 441/27) that has a lot of granite stacked up outside....I haven't done any business with them, but they might be a place to check out

ask for references

retiredguy123 05-17-2020 09:10 AM

I think Ultimate Granite on Rolling Acres Road has the largest selection of in-stock granite in the area. They also have a good reputation for installing it. You may also want to consider quartz instead of granite. It seems to be becoming more popular because the color is more consistent than granite.

John_W 05-17-2020 09:11 AM

Someone asked a couple of weeks ago, I copied my previous post.

From reading this board for ten years, from memory two places stand out. First is Ultimate Granite. They had a granite yard in Wildwood until about 6 years ago, then moved to Rolling Acres Rd to have more room. They are the place that other installers buy from. They now have their own installers and advertise in the Sun weekly and every review I've read on here, people have been very happy and their prices seem to be the best.

Ultimate Granite- Stone & Quartz Specialist in Tampa, The Villages, Ocala and Sarasota

The other is Duncan Stone out of Tavares the other side of the Leesburg Airport. I can't count the number of times posters have complimented their work.

Ultimate Granite on Rolling Acres.

Wide variety of pricing. They are very competitive and most often the low bidder.

Excellent workmanship from removal to new install, including all plumbing, electrical work.

We had all new faucets which they installed.

Their schedule is reliable and communications is very good.

We worked with these folks for a kitchen remodel, Rae Builders. They were excellent. It is our kitchen in the photo on their Facebook page.

Another thumbs up for Ultimate Granite. I got my counter tops from them. They have a large selection and are nice to work with.

Beagee 05-18-2020 06:16 AM

Ultimate Granite is wonderful

Ultimate Granite just completed the replacement of our countertops with Granite and they were absolutely wonderful. The installers did a meticulous job and were very focused on the details. We had two bathrooms and our kitchen redone. Love it!!!

Duncan Stone in Tavares.

Ultimate Granite’s nephew owns Stone Rise Granite.
We were told if we went with them they would upgrade the level of granite at no extra charge.
Liked dealing with both companies until it came to Stone Rise installers. Very disrespectful people.
Had Duncan do our guest bathroom. Very nice to deal with. I was sorry we didn’t go there for the kitchen.

KMcgee 05-18-2020 08:15 AM

Duncan stone had granite done in kitchen and quartz in master and guest bath. Overall very happy with the workmanship and cost. Overall great people to work with. It’s worth the drive to Tavares.

prendymom 05-18-2020 09:09 AM

We used Stone Rise & got Cambria Quartz installed. In the kitchen & 2 bathrooms. New sinks, garbage disposal, 3 new faucets & very please with their workmanship. They did all the work in 2 days back on 12/4/19.

We've used Exquisite Designs in Belleview for both our designer and CYV. Tony, the owner, does meticulous work and stands behind it. When a manufacturing defect was discovered in my quartz, the rep came out, agreed it was a manufacturing error, went back and told the supplier. Supplier blamed it on installer (Tony) instead. We would have been caught in the middle, but Tony bought another slab from the same lot # and is installing it today. They are wonderful people to work with, and very ethical. I got their name from Island Girl on this forum. She showed us their work in her home.

Needless to say, Exquisite Designs is no longer dealing with that supplier. Told him to come remove all of his samples from the showroom.

airstreamingypsy 05-18-2020 09:23 AM

Personally I hate granite, but I did go to Wildwood Kitchens and Bath to price quartz countertops. The price they guy gave me was bizarre. I agree with the person who said avoid them.

JLR280 05-18-2020 09:27 AM

Another vote for Duncan Stone. We could have made a selection from their inventory in Tavares, but they also provided us with a list of granite dealers in Orlando and Ocala from which to choose. We finally chose our granite from Mystic Granite (extensive selection) in Orlando, and Duncan Stone's installers did a wonderful job.

jrieker68 05-18-2020 10:48 AM

Prefer Quartz

I much prefer quartz to granite. Had it at my last house and loved it - no need to reseal every year like granite. Info. on hgtv.com:

Granite vs. Quartz: "On the surface (pun intended), quartz appears to be the winner. It’s easier to maintain, longer-lasting, more environmentally friendly and easy to customize. However, it can be pricey depending on the options you choose and the uniqueness of granite remains appealing to many. Consider your budget and specific needs before making a decision but you really can’t go wrong with either one."

Wildwood Kitchens and Bath did ours and we were pleased with the quality and price

Granite emits radon......... ask anyone from the granite state (NH). There are a lot better choices.

The Federal Government (EPA) says that granite countertops are not a radon health risk.

Has anyone replaced countertops in a Patio Villa? Any idea what that would run?

Byte1 05-18-2020 01:42 PM

Minami Granite Designs in Ocala. I have had two homes here in the Villages done by them and have NOT had a single problem or complaint. They have a large stock of really nice granite and the owner takes personal interest in each job. They did the kitchen and both baths in both of my homes and I have even had compliments from visitors as well as professional service contractors that have done work in my home. You can check out their website and get directions to their location where you can peruse their large stock of stone.

Be very wary of Rae Builders. We had hired Home Town Builders (HTB), which Elisa Adams-Rae was president of, to complete an addition/remodeling project and we gave them a substantial down payment up front. Apparently due to some disagreement within HTB the company was split up and her new company, Rae Builders was going to complete our project. Because of subsequent delays, excuses, etc. Elisa told us we were free to hire another contractor, which because of further delays, we ultimately did. The only work performed that we know of by contractors HTB/Rae Builders hired, was by Bluewater Drafting (drawings) and Green Pastures 23 (minimal landscaping). And as of a couple months ago, she had not paid either one, even though we had given her a substantial down payment. We reported Rae Builders to Sumter County Crimes against Seniors and she initially told them she would provide the documentation as to what our down payment was used for, but after a couple weeks no longer responded to their requests. We also reported Rae Builders to the Better Business Bureau and they told us she never responded to their requests.

We had our countertops done by Ultimate Granite. They are great to work with and their installers are the best.
