I've read a few articles saying they have had declining sales the last couple years but only speculation that they could close.

They have been rumored to go out of business one year after they opened.
The one in TV survived the closing of several B&N stores a couple of years back.

It would not be a surprise if they closed (or opened). Great spot for Trader Joe's or _ _ ? _ _.

Strange how people rush to put out fake news. Long term do not think they will survive but why not let them announce if they will be permanently closing.

Where will fox news authors have their book signing

GOJODO 05-20-2020 05:25 AM

Large book stores is a biz model that is unsustainable in the digital world

I thought I would never want to use a kindle but with library closed had no choice and have gotten used to it. Lots of other folks have probably done the same sounding the deathe knell for the store chain

Except on college campuses where taxpayers pay the bill. Why can't textbooks be all digital?

Dana1963 05-20-2020 06:03 AM

Why buy books use the County Library or have books downloaded ebook or kindle even Amazon is a better deal if you really want print format to keep. Barnes &Noble for free wifi and coffee.

A perfect example of "why did they close, I loved that place." All that knowledge under one roof, anything literally under the sun available to the looker for information, better than scanning a laptop or ipad screen. There are the readers that sit up front, read the magazines, put them back, not making a purchase. It would be a huge loss to us and TV if B&N turned off their lights and locked the doors. Where could we go for a rush when we walk into the store and see all that is in front of us to take back to our homes to relish and learn and enjoy. Then we can donate those books so others can have that same "rush."

And now add Pier 1 to that.

ts12755 05-20-2020 07:04 AM

Yep. Same in our house.
Have been using audio books, and have got used to sitting back listening, and resting the eyes.
Will still go back to library books when available though, as I just love reading with a book in my hand.
Just seems Proper!

The age of bookstores is over, I assume......

Confused by your statement. Are they closing and being replaced by restaurant?

I think it means they were stopping their food service.

Fake News!!

The sign on their door is clear -

“At the request of public health officials, Barnes & Noble The Villages is temporarily closed,” the sign said. “We look forward to welcoming you back when we are able to reopen.”

Boomer 05-20-2020 12:34 PM

. . .

domino8678 05-20-2020 12:59 PM

There is a sign on their door that they are going to open on the day after Labor Day.

According to the Barnes and Noble lady I just spoke with, the sign says they will be closed on Memorial Day. They are currently open on other days for curbside pickup. They do plan to open the entire store at some future time, but they have not yet set an opening date. She knew nothing about opening the day after Labor Day.

Agreed I do prefer reading a real book but for now ebooks are working well for me

Velvet 05-20-2020 01:44 PM

Well I hope they will open again. I bought my house in TV partly based on how close it’s location was to B&N.
