Scavengers/poachers on the golf course?!?
On the first tee at Heron this morning waiting my turn in the tee box.
A crow lights on the seat of my golf cart, picks up my oats and chocolate breakfast bar (unopened yet) and flies away with it. That is a first!!!! :rant-rave: |
Watch for those damn squirrels too!

I had a crow take a package of peanut butter crackers out of my cart while parked at Winn-Dixie at LSL. The package was on the ground next to the cart and the crow had opened crackers.
|
First hole of Calusa is brutal. You're putting on the green and the birds are picking your cart apart. Then they leave a little white "thank you gift" on your steering wheel when they're done.
|
Many years ago when I lived at Fiddlesticks in Fort Myers a crow flew away with a players Rolex watch from the cart. They like food and shiny things.
|
Take plastic shopping bags and hook them to the curtain straps. They will blow in the wind and keep the birds away. Also cover the steering wheel .
|
I've had black birds at Belle Glade Calusa take an energy bar off the seat of my cart while I was on the green and Cane Garden Jacaranda Hole #5 the monkey squirrels in the big oak tree will take anything in your cart, orange crackers, energy bars, raisins, although I haven't seen them lately. I live about 100 yards away from that hole in a CYV and have 4 regular squirrels in my backyard all the time.
Once I was sitting in my car in front of Publix at Colony and a cart parked next to me, I watched two black birds go inside the cart and check it out everything in the cart. I learned if you playing golf, anything you have open, when you go to the green or tee put it in the glove box. |
Happens all the time.

They take everything
At our course in South Florida, the squirrels took everything from food to golf balls to jewelry. A friend lost a ring so got a ladder after golf and with a bag boy climbed up to the nest and found a treasure chest of things from gum, food, gloves, rings, and watches.
|
Smart birds- they know that the Villages is a great place to hand out to find goodies!!!
|
The jewelry has a pocket in most golf carts, to date haven't lost any, but food is different thing. Black birds have unzipped pockets with food i them.
|
When I lived in a Brooksville on a course there were Monkey Squirrels who would race up onto the putting greens and steal the balls...hilarious the first time, less so on repeats!!

Critters on the Golf Course
At the Wrangell golf course in Southeast Alaska, if an eagle or raven steals your golf ball you’re permitted to play another ball without taking a penalty stroke. Around here, how many folks have lost a golf ball to an alligator?
FYI: The 9-hole Wrangell course has two flags on each AstroTurf ‘green so you can play “eighteen.” |

Have had this happen multiple times by birds and squirrels. Best to leave in glove box or overhead tray.

Calusa?

Crows at Pebble Beach will pull the towel off ,your sandwich at the turn and fly off with the whole darned thing
|
No, they are slightly larger and very quick and intelligent. I have seen them several times here inTV working as a team - while one entertains you the others are ransacking your cart! Longer less bushy tails - don’t know the correct name but well known as “ Monkey Squirrels “.
|
Why isn't someone turning these monstrous offenders in to Community Watch? Someone call Meta Minton, this is the scoop of the year!
|
Should charge those birds the amenity fee for what they are taking away

Crows/blackbirds usually leave in June for parts unknown. I can tell by my bird feeders being full all day. They usually come back around Nov/Dec

My friend had a baggie with cut up fruit inside zipped into her front golf bag pocket at Hacienda. When she came back from eating lunch (Hacienda was still open), a squirrel was eating the fruit. The squirrel had gnawed through the bag to get the fruit!
|
Nope. Second.
The very same thing happened to me on the same golf course about a month ago! I had brought a couple granola bars containing chocolate chips and left them in my cart. I went to practice some putting and saw a friend of mine running off to the right and had no idea why. On his return to the putting green he informed me that he had seen a crow in my cart steeling something and flying off. He tried to retrieve it. When I looked in the cart I noticed one of the two unopened bars missing! Lesson learned.

"Monkey squirrels" are actually foxtail squirrels.

Delightful
Thanks All, This is the most delightful thread EVER!!

I lived on Clearwater beach/Sand Key for the last 15 years before moving here. A young couple who borrowed their parents condo in my building for their honeymoon getaway were in the pool. All of a sudden she starts screaming as a crow landed on the table they had placed some belongings on in between the chaise lounges. "MY RINGS ON THAT TABLE!, MY RINGS ON THAT TABLE!. I had just arose from my poolside slumber as she started screaming so I started running over there to shoo it away because they were in the pool. I got there just in time to see the crow take off with what I would learn was a $14,000 wedding ring.
Needless to say she was upset, even though their insurance would replace it she was still upset. Funniest thing she said was that she only brought her costume jewelry with. That was the only thing on that table worth anything and that's what the crow chose. Lol! |
breakfast to go? ;-) Don't trust the squirrels, either!

To the fellow who commented on the first hole of colusa I had the same thing happened to me on the second hole of colusa the first hole used to have a million birds on the Green that you had to shoo away when you were putting if your ball landed to the right side of the hole
|
If you think they are bad, wait until one of the crocs targets your breakfast!

Not long ago, a black bird landed in my cart and left his "gift" to me in the eye piece of my range finder... filled it right up.
