Memory care facilities
Need to place elderly relative in residential memory care. Would like recommendations on quality places as well as places to avoid. Can’t do in-person visit and inspection during coronavirus. Thanks

|
The OP said memory care, and that is the title of the thread.

Oppps my bad so sorry

Mother in law spent about 1.5 years is the memory care unit at Mission Oaks, we felt the care was very good.

Since I drive Powell Rd several days a week going to MVP at Brownwood, I watched Your Life Memory Care go from a cow pasture to finished building. I wasn't sure it was open since my MVP trips have ended for two months, but I saw a story in the Sun about a woman visiting her husband at the new Wildwood location. It's right across from the front of the Gold Dome (Sumter County Govt building) on Powell Road. You wouldn't have to wait since it's brand new.

Memory care

medicare.gov
I cannot give you specifics for memory care, but sometimes it is a part of a facility that offers a continuum of care.
As you narrow your search, you can go to medicare.gov for information on inspections, staffing, quality, and overall rating. The nursing homes are rated with stars in the various categories. When you go to the medicare.gov site, you might need to use the search box on the opening page. Just type in “nursing homes“ and that will take you to “Nursing Home Compare” where you put in the zip code or city or name of the facility, and then it will take you to the information. As you look through a list, you might see a red circle with a hand in the middle, next to some of the names. That symbol means the facility has been cited for abuse. The site is helpful, though the design is rather awkward, involving lots of scrolling and clicking around — but could certainly be well worth using to get more information as you make such an important decision. |
Trinity Springs behind WalMart on 466. Gorgeous facility and wonderful people.
Trinity Springs — Assisted Living and Memory Care in Oxford, FL |
My mother is in Village Veranda M.C. off of US 441 in lady Lake. Sweet and attentive staff. New facility. Competitive pricing. Though i can’t go see her they have a room with a screened porch where they will bring a resident so they can be visited while the family member does physical distancing. I very much appreciate that.

My mother is in memory care at Mission Oaks. I visited several places before selecting this one. I cannot say enough about how wonderful this place is. It is small and been open 11 years. The memory care is now in a newer 6 year old building. Many staff members have been there since it opened. They love my mother; they are like family. I would avoid brand new places - they have too many kinks to work out.

Sorry to hear about that. I also had to place my Mom in an ALF recently, very hard decision. What I found the most helpful, after months of researching on my own, was to contact her Social Worker, it is assigned by her Insurance's long term care company, that Social Worker help me immensely with a list of the top ALFs in my close proximity, I was able to go check them out, speak to Owner/Manager, ask all our questions (which I had made a list) and make decision. Glad to say my Mother is very happy where we placed her. Good luck.

Memory Care Facility
My Mother was at Mission Oaks Memory Care for about two years. Wonderful place. I talked with people (nurses, rehab, social, etc.) and they all recommended Mission Oaks. I visited a lot of the places inside TheVIllages, but Mission Oaks won out.

My mom has been in Elan for about 8 months. Assisted living. She loves it. I must say they were quick to respond when corona hit. Went into lock down immediately.
|
No experience except "hear-say"....look at Trinity Springs (another poster had commented as well with a link). I've heard great things from people who have placed loved ones there. In fact I personally know the people who've placed them. Know some of the folks that work there as well. Also have heard Mission Oaks as well. Know of someone there right now. Her husband is in our care-group from church.
|
I toured Elan Buena Vista. Very nice.
|
Buffalo Crossings is a wonderful facility. They have both Memory Care & Assisted Living.
Also, Serenity is a great place and it is specifically for memory care. Best of luck 😢 |
But you don't say where she is.
|
Avoid The Willows. Elan Buena Vista does not have private rooms in Memory Care. Rooms are shared with a curtain separating resident's beds.
|
We have our mom at mission oaks. She’s been there since October 2017. Very pleased with the staff and care.
The main decision for choosing MO was staff longevity. The place had only been open 6-7 years and the majority of staff had been there since opening. |
Freedom Point memory care unit.
|
Highly recommend Prestige Manor in Belleview after sister was in 3 others I didn't like- Mission Oaks, The Willows & Lady Lake Specialty Care.
|
My mother was at Generations Senior Living in Wildwood for 18 months. They have two or three 6 resident houses. Of the three places she lived over a 5 year period that was, by far, the best! Before that she was at the Springs ALF. I would not recommend them.

My wife spent almost 2 years in Willows and I was happy for the care she got. Important to remember that the rate they give you is negotiable. |
this has been a very helpful thread....thank you all that have gone down this road before and were willing to share. I will have to go down this path in the future for the love of my life...I can't even tell you how much of a relief reading all of your comments this has been. Again, THANK YOU all

Medicare Compare Nursing Homes
Thanks for this information. Some good info but seems to be very limited on the number of facilities listed. When I put in zip code 32162 I get 23 results and some are in Ocala. Anyone know of another site that shows ratings?
