Passport

My passport expired last summer. Where can I go nearby to get a new one. I called the number provided in The Villages phone book. But the recording said that office is closed. It gave another number to call so I called that number. But it is disconnected. Now what?

Rga20 06-05-2020 01:48 PM

Summerfield post office for one. Many, but not all POs are passport agents. They say you need an appointment. Google passport renewal the villages and you'll see what you need and how much it costs.

Most Walgreens take passport photos and print while you wait. About $15.

Here's the link for a renewal application.

Renew my U.S. passport

If you belong to AAA I think you can get free passport photos.

coralway 06-05-2020 03:31 PM

I believe if you passport expired less than 5 years ago you can renew online. Or, maybe it is 3 years. In either case you should be able to renew online.

Passport processing has been temporarily suspended because of Covid 19 unless a life and death situation . My daughters travelling companions for a trip next month found this out the hard way.

My wife and I got a passports two years at the Summerfield post office. It's on 301 a little ways past 42. Go on their website and you can make an appointment right on the site. I had gone to Walgreens and we had passport photos taken for $10 each. When we got there, they wouldn't accept my birth certificate, it was from Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, they only wanted one from the Department of Health. They wouldn't accept my wife's because they said it was too worn. They gave me a website to go to get a certificate. I went on the site, and they send a full page birth certificates for $10 each plus Fed Ex, so two with shipping it was about $40.

Also they did not accept our photos from Walgreens. Mine they said had too much shadow on my face and my wife they said didn't show enough shoulder. So when we made the second trip with good birth certificates, we had them take photos there for $15 each. All together it was expensive, about $300 for both counting everything. We took the original photos back to Walgreens and they gave us back our $20, no questions asked.

When I renewed mine, I had to send in the old one with new pictures. No on line unless thats been changed in the last couple of years

Agentjanhusak@gmail.com 06-06-2020 05:26 AM

You should be able to renew it through the mail by sending in your old one with a new picture (Walgreens takes those) . Go on line to “Renew Passport” and hopefully you can still do that.

2mnydogs 06-06-2020 05:31 AM

You can renew online if it is newly expired. Google passport renewal and you should find everything yoi need.

birdiebill 06-06-2020 05:32 AM

We renewed ours last year. We had to print out and complete the renewal form that we found online. Then we had the passport photos taken at Walgreens. We sent the renewal form, the new photo and the old passport to where ever the website told us for people living in Florida. Each application had to be in a separate envelope, but the two envelopes could be mailed In one larger envelope. I could not find a way to renew just online.

Annie66 06-06-2020 05:37 AM

Our son sent in a renewal form for a passport approximately 4 weeks ago. We called the State Department yesterday, and spoke with an agent, she told us because of Covid-19, processing time had gone from 4-6 weeks to months (an undetermined number). We're not sure when he will get his renewal.

Mimi0808 06-06-2020 05:54 AM

I also need to renew my passport and on the US Passport website they tell you that if you are not traveling for an emergency, to wait until the offices are open to renew them, if you send the application now it could take up to 6 months or more. I printed out the application from their website: Renew my U.S. passport. Good luck.

Rosebud1949 06-06-2020 06:40 AM

Not all post offices are passport offices, the Summerfield on 301is, get the form there, you will need a passport photo (Walgreens) (make also sure that you do not smile) make an appointment at the post office and go in person with all documents filled including the old passport, they will tell you the amount (bring your checkbook) and that is it. (When we did ours the Old passport Was NOT expired) after you send it wait 6 weeks and you will get the new one via mail, there is an expedited service, but we did not use it.
Good luck, dealing with any post office is an ordeal in itself.

Andyb 06-06-2020 08:04 AM

Sent ours back for renewal, per website instructions, 2 months later, still no passports. Dealing with Government is never an easy or efficient process.

You cannot renew a passport online. The State Department only accepts renewals by mail or you can use a passport office. If you google "passport renewal" there are private companies who will do most of the paperwork for you for a fee. But, I believe they still send you the paperwork for you to mail it in. It is very easy to do the paperwork yourself using the State Department website. I have found that, when the expedited service is available, it costs an extra $60, and you still may not get the passport any faster.

Also, you can order a passport card in addition to the regular passport for about $30 extra. This is a good idea because it can be used for some trips, and to board airplanes if your drivers license is not a certified real ID. I understand that airlines are soon going to be prohibited from allowing people to board airplanes with a drivers license that doesn't meet Federal requirements. Many states are not in compliance with the Federal rules. Your Florida license is in compliance, if your license has a "star" on it in the upper right corner.

Dlbonivich 06-06-2020 09:07 AM

You can go online and print the form for renewal and send your old passport your new photo and form in by mail. Then just wait. I would use some kind of usps tracking.

No matter what your looking for , if you have smart phone just go to safari and write a question , I found 6 places including a quick turnaround office it only takes a second , it works for computer also but I long ago got rid of computer

newyorkmaya 06-06-2020 09:52 AM

check state dept for passport renewals

I last checked, the state department was advising you not to try to renew unless it was an energeny. They warned that mailed paperwork would sit for months. If anyone knows different, please tell me. My passport is expiring in Jan and I have a great trip planned for March

Troopie 06-06-2020 10:27 AM

Passport

I just went on the U.S. State Department's website and downloaded the form. I mailed them in, along with a check and my passport photo (which you can have taken at several different places such as CVS and Walgreen's).

My wife and i travel often. Ths year trip to souel korea had to be canceled. TO UPDATE YOUR PASSPORT, DO IT ON LINE. We opted for not only our passport but also for as addition $35.00 a passport card. Why do people look to the villages to solve their problems???

rphil11ort 06-06-2020 11:43 AM

I got mine in the.same building as the.sheriffs office and the tax department corner of 466 and Morse

Not correct. You cannot renew a passport online. It must be done by mail or in person.

Go to any post office. I did see passport applications at the at the Tax Collector/Sheriff's Office on 466 off of 466. Probably also at the Sumter County Annex on 466A

You may be able to get the form at a Post Office, but most of them do not accept the form for processing. The easiest way to get the form is on the State Department website. Then, you can either mail it in or go to a passport processing office, which are listed on the State Department website.

Last time I needed passport renewed we went to Orlando. Not necessarily the most convenient but was very efficient.
