Cauliflower Pizza vs. REAL Pizza

Cauliflower pizza is not pizza. It's a fake imposter shell masquerading as bread, covered with ridiculous things that shouldn't ever be combined with cauliflower. It is an insult to vegetables and to wheat and should be permanently stricken from existence.

Discuss.

fdpaq0580 06-05-2020 03:00 PM

OK!

You said on another thread you would start this one. You want to start a discussion on this topic. OK. I'll bite, the REAL pizza, that is. To me, the toppings can be almost any variety of things, it is the dough that make it a real pizza. A "pizza" made with any substitute base/crust is an imposter.

It sounds to me like you're pre-judging cauliflower crust without interacting with an individual cauliflower crust pizza. That's a no-no! :ohdear:

Are you inferring that wheat is superior to cauliflower? Also a no-no! :ohdear:

Have you considered that not all people have access to a pizza store serving cauliflower crust? Perhaps they live in a cauliflower crust food desert? We should subsidize pizza parlors in underserved cauliflower crust areas to make it equal.

You sound like part of the problem. Can't we all just enjoy pizza without always separating us by crust preference?

If you're silent on this topic, you're complicit! :rant-rave:

We know what we like...and we like the traditional pizza that we grew up with....the pizza down here in TV is awful....so we make our own and we are happy with the outcome....okay so we cook...many of our fellow residents don't...not my problem...cooking is pretty easy

even on a bad day I can't imaging eating pizza with a cauliflower crust...give me a break...have a salad

we get the dough from Publix

asianthree 06-05-2020 06:43 PM

There are some that Do not tolerate grains. You can choose what crust you want, some do not have that luxury. If done correctly cauliflower crust can be thin an crispy. Egg, parm cheese, Italian herbs, and cauliflower. TJs make a decent one, but when our oldest is home I make ir from scratch in about 5 minutes. Zucchini crust is not my favorite

You'd be better off making a lentil-flour naan flatbread open-face sandwich. No grains - just lentil flour, water, yogurt, and a pinch of baking powder. You can use soy yogurt and make it vegan AND grain-free. It won't ever be confused for pizza. It doesn't try to pretend it's pizza. It is proudly lentil-flour flatbread, and doesn't ever have to apologize for it.

Cauliflower pizza, however, is an affront to vegetables and grains worldwide. It is a crime against pizza, a terrorist attack on Italians, Brooklynites, and Bostonians.

Cauliflower pizza is the Riddler of Captain America's Superman.

I wouldn't mind making my own pizza but my oven doesn't go to 750°. That's how hot the ovens are at the woodfire pizzerias where I come from! Can you imagine that kind of heat in a Florida home? Fuggedaboudit.

Topspinmo 06-05-2020 07:08 PM

IMO all pizza around here is an imposter!:duck:

If cauliflower was my only choice in a pizza crust I think I would just have to do without pizza.

Flipper's Spanish Springs is the closest to New Jersey pizza of any pizzeria in The Villages or surrounding counties.

We've ordered the veggie pie several times recently. It's been ready when advised, hot and delicious.

Ugh no not even almost sorta close. Giovanni's is tolerable. Flipper's is like - when Dominos tries to open a pizza joint in Wooster Square, New Haven.

Today’s cauliflower is yesterday’s kale.
too both.

Cauliflower crust does not sound appealing but I am trying to keep an open mind until I try it. Are you that against change ?

As far as vegetables, I dare you to watch Farm to Fridge and then be against them. Farm to Fridge: 12 Minutes to Change Your Life

For those that can't tolerate a REAL pizza crust, it is a welcome substitute.

Well...

I happen to enjoy cauliflower in all its forms, even cauliflower mashed potatoes AND I happen to be diabetic so it works for me. I'm thankful the posters either don't like it or most likely haven't tried it. Otherwise there might be a shortage.

merrymini 06-06-2020 07:16 AM

I could try cauliflower pizza but until then, hahahahahahahahahahahaha.

We got our first AND last cauliflower pizza last week.

It sucked.

I dislike sausage on pizza. Plain cheese pizza with maybe anchovies, in solidarity with my son and late mother-in-law. Or pesto, green peppers, pine nuts, feta & olives, no tomato sauce.

And I don't care if the crust is bread dough or cauliflower. I like them both.

Now I'm hungry.

Tried pizza with cauliflower crust once and didn’t care for it. But would try it again at another pizzeria if it was offered to me just to see if their version is better. Wouldn’t pay for one again.

We have had Flippers pizza and thought it was pretty good.

Waiting for the end of social distancing and will try Giovanni's like their regular entries and they seem to sell a lot of pizza.

Have not been to NYPD but they seem to have a large following.

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 06-06-2020 08:46 AM

Every time I've tried cauliflower bread or cauliflower mashed potatoes it taste like..........CAULIFLOWER.

I try to limit my intake of carbs and especially wheat, but cauliflower just does not do it for me.

I'm judge pizza by the type of crust it has. The less the better as far as I'm concerned. I'd never order Chicago style or deep dish pizza.

I grew up in Boston where pizza had a medium crust. I don't mind New York style which has a very thin crust, but to me, it's all about the sauce, cheese and toppings.

What bothers me is when there is a huge border of crust without any sauce or cheese on it. We got a pizza from Papa John's, which usually is acceptable (not great) and there was an inch and a half of crust on the perimeter. I throw most of that away so a large pizza becomes a medium.

But no cauliflower please.

NYPD is good. I've never had Giovanni's pizza but I like their other dishes.

Pizza from New York is a soggy undercooked overpriced abomination.

Everybody knows real pizza comes from Chicago.

PS The only decent pizza in the tri county area is Belleview Pizza. Be prepared to wait in line and bring cash.

erhrph 06-06-2020 09:19 AM

I've tried Cauliflower pizza and don't like it at all. Yes, wheat is far better than Cauliflower!

I'm betting if you read their online health inspection results you'll feel different.

Oh please, every restaurant gets the occasional warning from the health inspectors. Your link shows a couple warnings issued since 2012, which were fixed. 90% of those reports are "met inspection standards"

Look up fathead pizza crust original recipe. It’s pretty darn good and puts cauli crust to shame. 😊

Cauliflower Pizza vs. REAL Pizza

Your post gave me a chuckle. I feel the same way about Hawaiian pizza! I was actually on a low-carb diet recently. I was craving pizza, so I broke down and tried the cauliflower pizza at Piesano's in Deaton Plaza. To my surprise, it was delicious! You would never have known the crust wasn't dough. It is just like a thin crust pizza. I am no longer on the diet, but still order that cauliflower crust pizza whenever I go there.

NavyVet 06-06-2020 10:28 AM

Tried a cauliflower crust 'pizza' once - it was disgusting. All I could taste was cauliflower which literally makes me gag. In fact all gluten free 'pizzas' I've tried are, well, sort of edible, but are simply NOT pizza, just a funny tasting flatbread with stuff on it. Calling a cauliflower crust pizza is like calling fat free cheese … cheese. Nothing like the real thing. Tomato sauce is important too. Pizzas w/o sauce is not real pizza. Good crust is the best part of most pizzas. Can't stand it when people don't eat their crusts. Throwing them away boggles my mind. Pizza is one of my most favorite foods that I had to give up, haven't had one in months.
That said, does anyone know of any place where one could find a whole wheat or whole grain crust pizza around here?

Ftallmadge 06-06-2020 10:33 AM

Diabetic

I watch my diet very carefully and thought I could never eat pizza again. Pizza is not the crust that could bring my sugar out of site. If you eat pizza with me I eat the toppings off the pizza and love it. Cauliflower has lower carbs than pizza dough. This is a win for diabetics.

Topspinmo 06-06-2020 10:44 AM

Talking bout cauliflower?

This only way I like cauliflower

My homemade crushed red peppers 🌶 it HOT. 50,000 plus on SH scale. Plus I pour my pickled peppers on them also.

As I stated earlier, to me the crust is what makes it "pizza". That being said, I have had any number of dishes called pizza and enjoyed them. I just thought the term "pizza" was a misnomer. While "a rose by any other name will smell as sweet", not every sweet smelling flower is a rose.
I applaud you for sticking to your diet. I know it isn't easy. But, imho, a "pizza" without the crust is a different type of meat and/or vegetable and/or cheese platter, still good, just not "pizza".

OlifOlif 06-06-2020 01:09 PM

Hunter once conned me in trying a pizza that had phony meat toppings. He said it was the best way to go. I don't remember where we went to "try" this pizza out. (I think it was somewhere in Jacksonville, but I don't remember let alone care!) Anyway, although it tasted OK for what it was, I didn't care for it because it was not real!

The best pizza you can have should be all real with lots of cheese goo, spices that are hot but not too hot, and meat junk that is real and all real! If you're going to put anything else, top it off in tomato sauce loaded with more meat jazz!
