We are sheep

The news media decides what we see & what we should be outraged about and it’s all about their ratings. If the cop who killed George Floyd was black, would it still have made the national news? Probably, because they could still tout it as police brutality against blacks and that makes for a salacious story. But if he was white, his story wouldn’t even have been picked up by the national news.

Bay Kid 06-07-2020 06:47 AM

Nope.

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 06-07-2020 07:01 AM

It's surprising to me that whenever a black person is attacked, assaulted or killed by a white person so many jump to the conclusion that it was racially motivated.
Not all crimes against blacks are racially motivated.

Which is done quite often here on TOTV by a select few.

It's interesting to watch so many members here post 1 or 2 times about how they don't agree with what happened to George Floyd, then spend their next 10-20 posts...pushing all of their 'BUTS.' :ohdear:

In fact, FBI statistics show that the lowest percentage of crimes agaist blacks are racially motivated.

Search on "crimes against blacks" and you will find numerous articles, most with adequate citations, like this one

You must be on the wrong thread. This is about how the media is using Floyd’s death for their own ratings. The national networks wouldn’t even have reported his death if he was white. However they did sensationalize his death because perpetuates their false narrative that blacks are subject to more police brutality than whites.

Unfortunately the media has reached the point where only a few corporations control almost all of the content of newspapers and tv and radio.

In Roanoke where we lived for 29 years the local paper was owned by a very liberal corporation. As a result only liberals were ever endorsed for public office and the widespread opinion was the Roanoke Times never heard of a tax they didnt endorse..

Some years ago our conservative congressman was endorsed. The joke was how long before the endorsement was cancelled. Took 48 hours and shortly there after a new publisher was named to run the paper.

It's because there are a lot of legitimate "BUTS".

What happened to George Floyd was horrendous. But we don't know the whole story. But, we don't know that it was racially motivated. But it doesn't mean that all cops are bad cops or racists. But it doesn't mean that every we still institutional racism in this country. But it doesn't justify people rioting, looting and burning down businesses. But it doesn't mean that every one of us should have to apologize for being white. There are probably a lot more legitimate BUTS but the most important is that we should wait for our justice system to work. I'm sure that this cop is going to be convicted or something and do some time in prison.

I'm sure that there are a lot more legitimate BUTS so what is wrong with pointing them out.

I'm sure that you wouldn't be happy if a group of these so called protestors set your house on fire because of the actions of one bad cop in Minneapolis.

Well said. A lot of these people who are protesting what happened would change their mind real quick if they were a victim of the looting or destruction

Good for ratings and the political motivation of the media.

First of all, thank you for so perfectly pointing out my comment...about all of the "buts."

Secondly, of course, I wouldn't be happy...having ANY criminal burn my house.

Unlike so many we see here though, I certainly wouldn't blame and defect to the vast majority...who are peacefully protesting.

The resignation of the NYT Opinion editor and his assistant due to the childish temper tantrum of some millennial "reporters" over the Tom Cotton OP Ed should stand as definitive proof that the MSM has an agenda. The Old Gray Lady has truly lost her way.

The reporting of the truth stopped beginning in the '70's with the rise of so called "Identity Politics" and the subtle indoctrination of college students with Marxist propaganda. I first noticed this on the old "main stream" networks. The subtle use of certain words to convey an opinion instead of reporting the facts. It continues to this day, without the subtlety.

Bay Kid 06-09-2020 07:17 AM

Walter where are you? CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX? I can't even trust what the weather man says much less these guys.

Media is just bad tv.

Read your older posts on TOTV. All the same slant. That's fine. I don't like posts just made to stir anger and slam people. We all know what you mean about today's post and "the boys". There are people on both sides who are useless and ugly. Stay to the middle. Man.

It was an ugly night on TV. No one won. We as a country looked like a bunch of losers.

Floyd was a violent thug who had a lethal dose of meth in his system plus a heart condition and essentially killed himself by fighting the police. The police followed procedure and a supreme court decision years ago prevents the police from either criminal or civil successful prosecution. Hope the cops sue Floyd’s family of miscreants for civil damages.

The officer in question has been charged, indicted, and bail set for the crimes of second-degree manslaughter and second-degree murder. That would be a criminal charge. Those charges have not been dropped and attempts to plea bargain were rejected.

He is ALSO facing charges for unrelated tax evasion on multiple counts, including changing his legal place of residence to Florida because it was cheaper to register his Mercedes there - even though he doesn't actually live in Florida.

Chauvin (the cop that murdered Floyd) is also a thug. He's just a wealthier, paler-skinned thug. And it doesn't make what he did to Floyd right.

Floyd was not in danger of dying at the time the police arrived. He died because he was in a medical stress situation exacerbated by being held face down, handcuffed behind his back, with someone sitting on his legs, another kneeling on his back, and a third kneeling on his head.

And even after they saw that he had no pulse..and was totally limp..and lifeless..Chauvin continued to keep his knee planted firmly on Floyd's neck. For several minutes.

Chauvin wanted him dead, and then when he was dead, wanted to make SURE he was dead.

Chauvin is a thug.

Floyd might be a thug also. But he wasn't a thug trying to kill another thug at the time. Chauvin was.

There is a saying, a prosecutor can get a grand jury to indite a cheese sandwich. The law is clear if you choose to read it. Like the other shootings all the cops in the Floyd case will be exonerated. Chauvin is out on bail. Doesn’t matter who is on the jury because a guilty verdict would be overturned on appeal if the judge didn’t already set it aside. Chauvin and those cops are heroes protecting us from thugs like Floyd who stick a gun in a pregnant woman’s stomach.

Agreed but Chauvin does have some degree of guilt for his actions.

Some day one of these protests will be about a model citizens but so far a bunch of thugs.

BTW a prosecutor can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich.

What actions are you talking about? Kneeling on perps neck? That allowable procedure was revoked AFTER the Floyd incident. Kneeling too long? No time limit is specified. You might FEEL Chauvin is guilty of something but the law must be followed not people’s feelings.

Unless, of course, you have a working crystal ball.
