Get Your Money

OK, this is the kind of stuff I keep myself busy with...
As you probably know the state of Florida is holding over a billion dollars in “unclaimed” bank accounts, utility refunds, paychecks, rebates, stock certificates and dividends etc. I think the deal is if a company can’t find you they have to send the money to the state after five years. They're not allowed to just keep it.

There are over 500 listings of state-held money for zip code 32162 and almost 2,400 listings for 32159. Many of the names and addresses they list are in the 2010 Villages Phone Book!! NOBODY is trying to find you and return your money. Why would they... the income from this “dormant” money must add up to millions for the state.
So, here’s how you get it. Click up the state site at http://www.fltreasurehunt.org/Contro...ewPublicSearch

The surest way to see if they have any of your money is to type in only the FIRST LETTER of your last name (next to the red asterisk) and your ZIP code. It will give you all the names beginning with that letter. If you type out more info and ONE letter is not an exact match (even due to their input typo) you will get “NO MATCH” even if your name and address is in there. i.e. if you type in Smith and Joe and they have you listed as Smith Joseph... no match and you won’t know they’ve got your cash.
Try both 32162 and 32159... you could be on either one. The lists (within the letter) are not in alphabetical order.

You don't have to pay to get your money... just fill out the info they ask for and eventually they mail it to you.
I never did find any money for myself... but have found several hundred dollars for friends.
I'd be really interested to hear if anyone has success. There... that's my good deed for the year.

Unclaimed property/money

Good website Walt, ......but.....I believe in some instances the states are actually holding a "Sting" to find where you are if you owe them monies.
For example, have a relative that lived in Az many years ago and moved out, I believe he owed them money, and on the Arizona unclaimed property list his name is on that also, knowing this person its highly unlikely he has any monies coming to him.
Soooo, be careful with these sites, if you owe them $$, they want to know how to get in touch with you.

robbie 08-02-2010 11:37 AM

i have personally used this site before and was able to collect a small amount of money from a grandparent that had passed away once i was able to provide the proper proof ... it was money left in a bank account where she used to live years and years ago... i am also currently in the process of collecting money from my fathers passing six years ago for a small life insurance account that none of us realized he had... our television station here in ft lauderdale regularly advertises the website on its broadcasts which is how i found out about it initially... everyone should go on and at least check it out... better the money go in a family members pocket than the state....

.

I suppose they could possibly sprinkle in a few people they are actually looking for. If you check this list, however, they are holding money from the Ace Hardware store up on Wedgewood Lane... the Miami Beach Convention Center (33139)... the Miami Beach Police Department (33139)... TWO of the BeeGees (33140)... all easy finds .
Also, when they have the CORRECT addresses for many of the Villagers it wouldn't be too hard to do a mass round-up (yikes!!). When you click on the account number you can see where the money came from i.e. the guy in the K's on Archer Avenue has 8 payments from a particular life insurance company... so he would know if it's legit.
Point well taken on the sting however. You never can tell.

Rag Bagger 08-02-2010 01:11 PM

Sparky, thanks for the info. Many states are doing this. I collected monies that were owed me from The Commonwealth of Kentucky about two years ago. It wasn't all tat much but better me than them to have the money.

All would be wise to check any state they may have lived in.

OK, may as well move this along even further...

Wow... over 340 views and not one person has indicated that they found their name listed. What are the odds...

Lou Card 08-08-2010 11:40 AM

I won't look for my name. I have a hard time spending the money I have now. he he he

K9-Lovers 08-08-2010 12:21 PM

I looked for our name in several of the places we lived previously, and alas, didn't find any unknown fortunes. BUT -- I did find some money for other members of my family including cousins and a nephew. I felt like a real treasure hunter. I even went on the site for canada and found unclaimed money for my relatives there!

getdul981 08-08-2010 02:18 PM

It appears that a local hospital owes me some money. Ain't that a switch?

Wow... only 2 of the hundreds of 32162/32159 residents with state-held money have clicked in. Don't assume they don't have some of your money just because you've been at the same address for years.
They're holding money for Ace Hardware, Oscar F (Church in the Square singer?), and many more. Lots of refunds, stock dividends, utility deposit refunds, etc. When I lived in Miami Beach they were holding a utility deposit for the then Mayor of the city. They even put him in jail for accepting bribes and STILL didn't couldn't locate him.

OK, you don't have to be a member of Mensa to claim your own money! Check it out.

Think the state couldn't be holding your money? That's what these other thousands of people think.

Has anybody that's read this actually taken the 2-3 minutes to check if they're listed? Any reason for not checking? Found any money?

I did search and didn't find anything. About 15 years ago though, the Office of Unclaimed Funds in NYS set up a display in our Motor Vehicle Office for the public to be able to check as they came through and I did find that I had some funds available. I'm still trying to figure out where to invest the $25 I got out of the process.

I located over $3800.00 for my father-in-law from PA. It took a couple on months but it was easy.

Get Your State held Money

This topic is going to be on Good Morning America tomorrow (Friday) so it seems like a good time to "bump" it up.
Somebody from the Villages with over $79,000 held by the state. If they'd read this thread they might have found it sooner. How about you?
For best results read tips from the first post on this thread. Remember, the names listed are NOT in alphabetical order. OK, go get you money.
If you find something it would be nice if you'd post it here so others could see it's possible. OK?
Walt.

They don't look for you at all

I have found money twice in the past in different states. Both times it was a case were a hospital was rienbursed later for items they had made us pay for as not covered. When the insurance marked an item as not covered we figured we had to pay the hospital for those items (the papers we signed when we checked in said if something wasn't covered we had to pay) What we didn't know was as a matter of course the hospital appeals and resubmitted and was after a few months paid.

In both cases no one ever sent a notice to my home even though a google of my name would have found my address. And I had not moved from the address on their records on the date they were paid. They made no attempt at all to find me or give me the money kept it as long as they were allowed and then turned it over to the state.

Everyone should check the sites for every place they have ever lived as well as sending letters to old employers. I found an unused sick leave fund at an old employer they just had sitting under my husbands social security number in case he ever came back to work there. Now that he is at retirement age he was entitled to the money it would have sat there forever if we hadn't contacted all his old employers to find any little bits of retirement benifits that were not apparent.

Walt. 08-04-2013 07:21 PM

It's been a while... so may as well bump it up.
I looked up some of the listings. Just from A thru E there are 438 listings of unclaimed funds in Zip Code 32162. One couple (beginning with B) has 8 listings of state-held money and stock... and they are in the Villages phone book at the address listed! I'd give them a call but they'd think it was a scam.
People... it's your money. At least check it out.
Walt.

Walt. 02-02-2014 03:53 PM

It's been a while... so time to bump it up.
Lots of Village and Lady Lake folks with money held by the state.
I looked up 5 names beginning with F and found 4 of them at the addresses listed on the state site. The other wasn't there, but with 8 listings of money being held for her I did a google search and found that someone with that name in Lady Lake died in 2009. Her heirs could probably use the money.
That's just 5 of the hundreds listed at 32162! I looked up five odd names.
These people just don't know the state is holding their money. What about you?
Also... can you suggest any way of contacting these people with the information without them assuming it is a scam? There are dozens (hundreds?) that are easy to find. Dividends, paychecks, refunds, insurance payments... lots of $$$
Now... go look up the site! Right now!

Thanks, I just downloaded my claim form for $116.97 from a stock i owed a million years ago

Walt. 07-04-2014 02:25 AM

OK... it's been a few months. Time for a bump.
Perhaps there are some new TOTV readers that can get their money. The state is holding over a BILLION dollars.
Right now there are just under 2,300 listings of state-held money just for addresses in Zip Code 32162. I looked up the 59 listing beginning with A and found 19 of them in the Villages phone book at the exact addresses listed.
These are insurance payouts, cable TV deposit refunds, stock dividends, refunds, etc.
Estelle and Joseph of Davidson Avenue have 4 listings; Mary and Robert of Lee Avenue each have a listing; Gaynor of Larranaga Drive, Nicolas of Palatine Ct, Myron of Rosedale Way, and others have money waiting. Maybe you know them... maybe it's you.
These folks don't know about these holdings... maybe there's money you don't know about. Go find out.
Walt.

My Son-in-Law found unclaimed money in my name in NYS. I provided the requested info and recieved $3,200 of which I gave him a 10% finder's fee. It worked out for all.
Ya never know
