Black lives Matter Street Painting
 

While no problem with the Idea that Black Lives Matter, I cannot agree with the public painting on streets such as in Washington DC authorized by the Mayor. Although I agree with the statement, I also believe that All Lives Matter. If some mayor decided to do the same elsewhere with White Lives, Red lives, Yellow lives it would be illegal. Why is this display by the DC mayor allowed. It simply promotes racial divide.

I do not believe it should have been painted on the streets. DC spends enough money on useless things already.

I bet it made some people feel better about their race and so money well spent.

Yes all lives matter , the problem with using that term it takes a way from the specific message that black lives matter. Lots of people who use this term are doing it in a derogatory manner . Black lives matters is about the injustices and inequality that black people feel . Sometimes it’s not what you say it’s about how you say it

BLM is just another form of segregation!!

Also presents as a general condition (black lives do not matter) that just is not true. Most people do not think that way.

What is this movement trying to change?
 

In saying that there is inequality and injustices perpetrated on black people, exactly how is that manifested? We have no laws or practices that are unjust or promote a differing quality for black people, in fact maybe quite the opposite. So where is the injustice and inequality coming from? I would have to say that it seems to me it comes from people who are not black feeling some level of hostility towards black people. I don't see how all of what's going on today is ever going to remove or even lessen that feeling of hostility.

This reminds me of the crosswalks painted in rainbow colors to promote LGBTQ causes in Northampton, Massachusetts. Where will it end?

Yes, DC is a mess and has long been that way. More virtue signaling that takes advantage of credulous people and enflames the emotions vs actually doing something.

Maybe paint will be used to clean up the town. Glad not to live in any city.

And I can’t get double solid yellow lines painted on our street to maybe prevent passing on a curve!! Go figure

BLM. Just watch where this goes in the upcoming years. Time for reparations? Many think so. Watch who you elect and watch what you say. If it isn't PC you or the business you frequent will be shutting down.

How many of the protesters are racists?? The word applies to people that treat people of different races differently. Not just white racists.

Stand up for your rights to free speech.
Boycott businesses that support causes that you are against. Let the business know so that they can weigh the cost of their public position.

Have you never heard of systemtic racism? It is too long an explanation to cover in a forum such as this, but google it, and you will see what it means. Ultimately, it lead to unequal opportunities for blacks vs. whites and has been going on since the Civil war. That's what we need to change.

The organization of "Black Lives Matter" is nothing more then the re-birth of the "Black Panthers." The list of demands is almost identical. The movement is also highly hypocritical. If they actually believed in what is being said then all the deaths by violence in Chicago and other cities would be part of the discussion. Yet there is total silence. None of the data supports the arguments. If you want to know the real problem in the African-American community read and listen to Shelby Steele. Few if any of those involved probably have even read his books. Listen to Candice Owen. This is like the movie a "Few Good Men". "You ca't handle the Truth".

There is no systemic racism in the USA any more.

Don't forget to mention, while they're researching (not that I expect many to do so), the visceral reaction (then & now)...against removing Jim Crow laws. :ohdear:

Name one system aimed at race? There is no systemic racism in the USA today. None. Its a lie. Was there, yes in the past. You should read Shelby Steele. He pretty much has it spot on. But people don't want to face the truth, they would rather perpetuate the the victim narrative. People want to have a conversation about race relations I think that is great. But you all better be ready to talk about the truth. Not this nonsense being played out by the media. Until that happens, nothing is accomplished, and nothing changes. Then there's the "White Privilege". You know what my white privilege was, two parents who were parents.

Right on. Any other country in the world that has more opportunity for a minority? If you are educated, (even a little) have a little discipline, not a criminal, you will find a job and good future. It is all about parenting and taking responsibility for your actions. Sitting back and expecting government to improve your life is too easy....(and we have seen it does not work).

If parents would teach their children respect. Children learn from their parents.

Not so much anymore, career politicians, lobbyists, ANd greed took all the manufacturing jobs/blue collar jobs over seas and across the borders for near slave labor pay. Course union demands didn’t help out cause. All for greed. 1% don’t give damn about minorities, white, or community, it’s all about mulit-million dollar bonuses.
