Re-opened movies

Has anybody been since the theaters re-opened? What was the experience like? I know there isn't much to see that isn't already on Netflix, but going to the movies is something to do when not much else is going on.

pre-COVID we'd go to TV movies almost every week. Now, nope - no interest for many many months no doubt. Would ONLY consider this year IF there is a Super-Duper movie out.

There is STILL so much to see on our DirecTV, HBO, and Netflix. And theaters, now too close for comfort. We're spoiled at home.

Not a unless they require everyone to wear masks...

Stu from NYC 06-19-2020 04:35 PM

No interest right now, when movies we would really want to see are out would reconsider but probably not until we have no worries from the virus

AMC is making masks mandatory. (is that too many "m's" in a row?)

kathyspear 06-19-2020 06:07 PM

My sister and I went to Sumter yesterday afternoon to see Sometimes Always Never. (Love Bill Nighy!) We were the only two people in the theater (possibly the only paying customers in the building). Lots of workers, all wearing masks. Safer than going to Publix or Walmart, I think.

My brother and I will go probably soon. He does not golf nor do much of anything else but take walks with me. So a movie would work.

Theaters Did Great Job

We went to the theatre Thursday and couldn’t be more pleased ho they had things set up. We bought our tickets a day early so didn’t have to wait in any lines. Arrows all over floors for walking patterns, one way in and out of concessions, distance spacing in restrooms, mask request signs, seating really spaced out in theatre and plenty of staff always checking in theatre and walkways to make sure everyone in compliance. Not many people at the shows yet (we were at 9:15 am show) We are very comfortable going back.

Mohawksin 06-20-2020 05:23 AM

Not too many. Nice alliteration.

You say "mask request signs." And there's the problem. Masks protect others, so even though you may wear a mask, if other patrons don't then you are at risk. And being in the building for a couple hours is different from going to Publix for 30 minutes...more exposure IMHO.

coffeebean 06-20-2020 06:04 AM

The theaters need to have masks REQUIRED for me to go and sit in an enclosed theater for 2 hours. Why would I wear a mask to protect others if others don't wear a mask to protect me?

How are we going eat popcorn and have a drink wearing a mask?

karostay 06-20-2020 07:02 AM

bowlingal 06-20-2020 07:04 AM

Oh, you are right about that. Silly me. I guess I shouldn't expect mask wearing in a movie theater. Should be just like a restaurant where social distancing is followed. That makes more sense.

AMC is requiring masks so how are their patrons going to eat popcorn and sip on a soda?

theruizs 06-20-2020 07:17 AM

We haven’t yet but we have been talking about it. Even a big screen tv isn’t the same as the theater experience. Really miss it.

Dana1963 06-20-2020 07:38 AM

Spoiled

After 3 months of no theaters we are spoiled with our 70 flat screen and lounge chairs bathroom 20 feet away fridge full of soda/beer or wine popcorn and treats most important pause button controller. We have watched so much content that we had missed in theaters also streaming content not in theaters. Will not be gonig back for awhile.

With distancing and seating spaced, can couples sit together?? How does that work?

The most important precaution is staying 6 feet apart. Masks are necessary only when less than 6 feet apart. So it depends on how well the people social distance.

pamsneff@gmail.com 06-20-2020 08:00 AM

Yes couples or families can sit together. They leave space before the next section of seats in that row along with in front of you and behind you.

doodles 06-20-2020 08:10 AM

I stick to things outdoors for now and watch movies at home

PugMom 06-20-2020 09:13 AM

i haven't gone simply because there isn't anything worth watching. i'm waiting for a decent movie to play, even like Fathom when they show classics. i'd love to see Sunset Blvd up on the big screen. :coolsmiley: i'll keep watching for new releases in upcoming months.

Carl99 06-20-2020 09:15 AM

The masks protect you and other people. It works both ways

Jacob85 06-20-2020 09:40 AM

People always use eating as an excuse for not wearing a mask. I am beginning to think they will use anything to justify not wearing one. You can wear a mask and still eat or can take it off for the few minutes you are eating. I wore one to a restaurant and glad I had it on while waiting for the food because a guy at next table kept coughing and had no mask. I felt was better than having no mask although doesn’t entirely protect you from that other person.

Sad to hear that and definitely safer. if the place is totally empty That says that many theaters, especially in areas like this, will go out of business sooner rather than later. The world has changed and (whether one agrees or not or on what "side" one is on) this will be the "new normal" for a long time to come. It will get a little better but not fast enough to save some of these places.

Now you will even need to make a reservation to go into the Disney Theme Parks in mid-July when they reopen at 25% capacity. You can't just get up and go which makes their season passes pretty useless but, unlike smaller places they will survive at a large loss of course.

New Documentary about The Villages

Looking for this one in particular to hit town: Some Kind of Heaven. It's a doc following 3 Villagers and opened to rave reviews at Sundance.

Well, maybe, but I won’t bet my life on it. Is 6 feet of social distancing really enough?

I hear ya and I agree to all of what you said. What I do miss, however, is the awesome sound system in a big theater. We can not duplicate that in our home as we don't have a surround sound system as we did in our NJ home. Even that NJ system did not sound like the audio system in movie theaters.

I haven't been to a movie theater yet but I would imagine a couple or family who live together can sit together in a movie theater. Restaurants are distancing in a way that parties of up to 10 people can sit together. but will be at least 6 feet away from other tables.

I would have requested to be moved to another table away from the cougher. I would not have stayed there.

Because it’s still a free country! If you feel safer with a mask then use one. If the establishment requires that you use one then that’s it’s policy and it’s your choice to go in or not. I for one will not be dictated to, it’s my choice!

That's called alliteration!

Then stay home. Requiring everyone to wear a mask is ridiculous. Masks CANNOT keep any virus out and, if you have the virus, you should not BE OUT! How easy is that?

LOL, thank you for making the whole point for wearing masks! There are people who have the virus and don't know they do (asymptomatic or presymptomatic) which is exactly why they want people to wear the masks. Yes, you can't keep it out from you with a mask (for the most part but there is still some protection) but it lets you keep it to yourself! Yes, of course it's not 100% maybe not even 50% but if one cares for friends and neighbors they will take that chance. And yes, HOW EASY IS THAT?

Right here in the T.V. bubble in the middle of nowhereland risk is low but in many other places it's not.

The Villages should set up a temporary DRIVE-IN movie area. and with no hot dog-type stands to have almost perfect social distancing and help society fight back against this VERY contagious PLAGUE.

Are you free to walk into a movie theater with no pants or underwear on? I didn't think so.

As for the mask......I don't feel safer when I wear a mask. I feel safer when you wear a mask. I don't think you have grasped that concept yet. Hopefully, you will come to the realization that the mask protects others. Your mask protects me and my mask protects you.

I have thought more about my comments about theaters requiring people to wear masks and I have changed my mind about it. As long as people in the theater are spaced out to social distance, then I'm fine with folks not wearing masks (just like in a restaurant). Gotta eat popcorn!

Wait, no underwear WITH pants is ok but not very sanitary but you're right on the birthday suit. :D

I think the "it's a free country" card and the "first amendment" card is way overplayed and usually ONLY when one is trying to defend their own argument or position but as soon as it is something they DON'T want to happen the card gets buried back in the deck. ;)

Florida17 06-21-2020 06:48 AM

I went to Brownwood movies last night. It was very clean, usher took us in with her mask on, sat us, explained how and where to exit, and remained in the theatre throughout the movie. Very good experience.
