Biohazard ??

Has anybody noticed the proliferation of used face masks in parking lots, along the golf cart paths and in the roads? Evidently they are (or were) being worn by people concerned with not getting or not spreading the Corona-19 virus. What concerns me is the lackadaisical hypocrisy being displayed by these same people who are littering with these used masks.
(Oh, you don't care about our health, because you refuse to wear a mask).
I say: You don't care about anybody else's health, when you carelessly discard your used mask.)
Oh well.....I guess there's a problem no matter which side of the issue you are on.

Just something else to add to the beer/soda cans, food cartons, and general detritus that seems to be the new normal way of disposing of rubbish around TV!

I don't know where these incidents are located but I can say that certainly does not apply to the areas of TV where we live and participate.

First it was latex gloves, now it's face masks.

What a herd of cretins!

Reminds me of when I was a kid, playing in the crik, catching crawdads.

Occasionally a huge, round, rubbery looking worm would float along with the current.

Yes, we played in the crik and I am still here.

Stu from NYC 06-26-2020 04:08 PM

Have seen them laying on the ground around Bonita from time to time.

I've seen them on the ground from time to time...one near a P.T. place and also at Neighborhood Walmart. Also in the shopping cart.

coalminer 06-27-2020 05:02 AM

I doubt very much if people are littering o n purpose. Masks are light and get blown out of golf carts. I see more hats, golf gloves club head covers, towels and plastic bottles than masks.

cunningham 06-27-2020 05:24 AM

Sam's Club parking lot has special receptacles for PPE.

I agree with 'coalminer'

I have seen a few latex gloves the ground coming out of a Publix...and a 'homemade' mask on the ground in the parking lot....I was not pleased to see that

in hindsight, I suspect what might be happening is that folks are taking the masks and gloves off as they exit and between the wind, one hand holding on to the cart, arthritis and whatever else the gloves or masks that we are seeing are being unintentionally dropped.

different story regarding the litter that we see from time to time in the grassy areas along Morse and BV Blvd. I suspect that is blowing out of the back of a worker's pickup / or a trailer...or being deliberately discarded by a few folks that work here, but do not live here

greenflash245 06-27-2020 06:43 AM

the pigs are active. just throw it anywhere

Ruggiero56 06-27-2020 06:54 AM

Ditto.

I don’t see any litter in my area (Osceola Hills) or the surroundings. I find TV a beautiful place to live.

graciegirl 06-27-2020 07:04 AM

I am really surprised to read this. I used to see things tossed along the path sometimes on 466 and would fault those jealous of us living here and sometimes would blame the people who just visit us like some of the construction workers for a can or two or maybe some kids visiting grams and using her golf cart. I haven't been out much lately but in my "surveillance trip' with my husband a week or so ago, just to see for myself about the mask wearing a Publix parking lot, I didn't see any trash on the ground there and I DID see almost everyone wearing masks entering and leaving.

One of my friends reported being made fun of and told "oh, you look stupid, you are all like sheep to wear masks." I did think to get together the posse we formed years ago to keep law and order in The Villages, but many of our members now are in their 80's and declined. :boxing2: ;)

Call Community Watch give them something to do....OR Sumter county sheriff, give them something to do besides harrass
people at the square!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Davelinda91 06-27-2020 07:16 AM

With the cases on the rise it’s time to do your part, stay home if you don’t want to follow CDC guidelines. We are never going to get ahead of the curve if you don’t.

RonGee 06-27-2020 07:26 AM

I live North of 466 and I do not see the "rubbish" you are describing.

am.zinger@aol.com 06-27-2020 07:30 AM

Golf cart paths seem to be mistaken for the trash heap. Masks, discarded gloves, beer cans, whiskey bottles, papers... Can't they keep them in their cart and dispose of them when they get home. We live in a beautiful community. Can't you 'tosser' show a little respect.

DecaturFargo 06-27-2020 07:44 AM

I don't see tons os masks and I'm out and about. I see a few. I don't think people throw them on the ground. I think they place it on their cart in a place that's not secure and it flies off. Have you heard of accidents. Don't exaggerate the amount of masks found.

Although I do not appreciate people who dispose of masks in an careless way :boxing2:, I don't approve of people who do not wear masks and go out to places where many people will be. EG: church, the grocery store, a library a bank or a restaurant
If a person doesn't wear a mask because of their choice they are putting many people's health risk in jeopardy. If they don't want to wear a mask in their own homes, cars, or golf arts, that is fine. As soon as they get to a place where their is someone, not in their family, they need to step up to being a responsible adult.:1rotfl: RESPONSIBILITY is defined as a moral obligation to behave correctly toward or in respect of. "individuals have a responsibility to control personal behavior" Personal is the operative word here as is moral obligation.:pray:

Have seen very few masks on my walks around Sumter Landing. You may be over reacting a bit or walking somewhere where there are a lot of people littering. Could it be workers coming off shifts?

Haven't seen much of this littering that you are talking about at all. Some stuff may get blown out of carts and some thrown out of passing cars occupied by the younger generation, but I've never seen much trash along cart paths and I travel many north to Lopez and south to Bel Glade or Evans Prairie as I play golf twice a week.

Joe C. 06-27-2020 07:25 PM

I've read a lot of the posts saying that there isn't that much trash out there, but I just took a ride from El Camino Dr. down Morse Ave. to Sumter Landing and back. I could have taken a large contractor's trash bag and filled it with the bags, plastic bottles, newspapers and junk that was on the side of the road. Not as many masks, though. Most of those are in the Publix / Winn Dixie parking areas.
Anyway, there's more on the ground than there should be.

Stu from NYC 06-27-2020 08:55 PM

Leaving the Bonita pool this afternoon there was a mask laying on the ground. Would have disposed of it but was concerned about touching it.

Wow I went from my house in Orange Blossom Hills through Spanish Springs, over to Morse and into Sumter Landing and back today, to see if it was true about Petsense people not wearing masks (it's true, one of the women had one hanging down off her chin, none of the others had one on them at all). I saw some cigarette butts, a few random scraps of paper/receipts, one soda bottle, and what appeared to be the fur that someone pulled off a pet brush and wadded up and tossed onto the side of the road (or maybe it was just dryer lint). That was pretty much it.

On the other hand we see a number of discarded gloves IN the shopping carts at work. Do yourselves a HUGE favor - don't try bringing a cart in from the parking lot and walk past the "cart people" inside the store who sanitize the carts. Let them do their job and sanitize yours. You have no idea what kinds of things have been in them, and have touched them, etc. Just let them do it. You can thank me later.

graciegirl 06-28-2020 06:04 AM

Thank you!:):):)

Even a health crisis like we’re experiencing doesn’t change people’s basic habits. Once a slob always a slob. It’s a miracle TV stays as clean as it does.

It is amazing how many people grab a wagon as is from the parking lot and walk into the store right past the guy sanitizing the wagons?

Makes as much sense as the people driving in their car wearing masks.

I totally get that some folks are just SO used to bringing in the cart from the lot, pre-pandemic, that they space out while they're doing it now. I get that.

What I don't get is when I stop them and say "oh here let me sanitize your cart for you" and they say "No I don't need it." Then I have to be more direct and inform them "I'm sure you're fine, but it's my job. Please let me do that."

And they STILL give me a hard time. Well I'm not going to play cart-cop and yank it out of their hands - but to those of you who do this: this post is the shame post. Shame on you. Let me do my job.
