Golf Cart Concerts Cancelled
 

Got an email from the Villages Entertainment that because of the huge increase virus cases, they are cancelling the outdoor concert series at the Polo grounds in July. Bummer, sounded like it would be fun.

Maybe those here are a little more cautious, maybe the other venues don't have the increases Florida is starting to see, maybe the entertainers pulled out, maybe the tickets didn't cover costs (not sure I believe that since acts are coming to The Sharon at 25% capacity). Could be lots of reasons.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that ticket sales weren't close to what they expected and they pulled the plug

Too bad about the cancellations. Sure seemed like a good idea to provide some fun acts and a safe environment.

This pandemic is really becoming a major bummer. If an outdoor social distancing concert watched by people inside cars and golf carts who are social distancing can't work safely or economically, then what will anytime soon. Oh well, better to be safe than sorry. Stay safe out there.

Bottom line is they can't make enough revenue to even break even at significantly reduced capacity. And even with reduced capacity, the demand just is not there. Here is crossing all fingers and toes that a reliable vaccination is around the corner.

Could the cancellation possibly be from the outrageous price asked for this event?? Come on, man, $100.00 per? Seriously?

It has been stated that even if there is, it is not believed that it will work on us oldsters. Harvard, I believe, is working on that.

Bummer! We had our tickets for Queen and was really looking forward to the concert.

Of course it has nothing to do with the virus as you notice that nothing else has been closed, 100% due to few tickets sold. Day before I checked to see what was sold out, every area for every group still showing tickets.

People though price was too much. I tonight quite reasonable for what was a unique, fun, safe venue.
When I did speak rep to get my money returned, she said people refusing to sign up because complained would be too hot. Maybe some other season.

$100 per 2 for the most expensive area and $60 per 2 elsewhere doesn’t sound particularly high to me for a
Creative way to hear good bands in a safe outdoor manner.

So that being the case I guess we have to go to the ticket booth about the refunds then. Bummer was looking for a good night out. Oh well back in he cave I guess.

I have not heard this from the Villages. Need confirmation.

I just think they couldn’t sell enough tickets , getting there 1 to 2 hours before, sitting in your car or golf cart for what ever time the show was on and then getting out of there . I mean all that to watch some talent that you coud probably see in some bar after the virus went away for the price of a couple of beers . I’ll wait for the Sharon to reopen and do like I did last night . I turned on TV and watched the film , Jazz On A Hot Summers Day a Newport Jazz Festival from 1958 there are many others like this you can watch

The villages entertainment website has remove the polo field concerts. There are no shows advertised for The Sharon or Savannah for the month of August.

I agree, the tickets were not overpriced. 38 Special if they played at the Sharon, you pay a lot more than $50 a ticket. I paid $50 to see Molly Hatchet last January at the Savannah Center and they had nobody in the band who was there before '84. The music was still great. They asked $125 for Kansas at the Sharon, and the original singer Steve Walsh had retired, and $104 for Eddie Money and it was a couple of months before he died. Not much plays at the Sharon for less than a $100.

Could it be that they can't sell booze at the event and the profits that go with it? Just asking for a friend

It doesn’t matter what the music is, restricted to a golf cart or car is not the way I want to hear a music concert . I want to interact with a crowd , get up and move . In summers before this virus I went to many outdoor concerts in Boston area they are full of energy , meeting new people and people watching , I’m 81 there still fun

that's why i never considered going! @$100 a pop, it's no way worth it, esp since we are to be confined to cars/carts unless purchasing items or using the bathroom

The cancellation more than likely came about from the fear that people would not stay in their cars/carts and gather together like the idiots do now at all the “fine dining” (sarcasm intended) restaurants in TV.

You're right, that's the reason I didn't buy tickets at the reduced rate. I can't see sitting in this heat outside upright in a golf cart for a few hours. Plus the promoters are not going to reduce ticket prices that much, because the artist has the same expenses regardless of the venue. It was a good deal price-wise, it was probably lack of sales is why they cancelled. The point was, it was not over-priced.

Well everyone wishing to receive a ticket refund...your fun is just begun! It has be well over three months of waiting for my refund for Bob Seiger show. The Customer Relation Director said it will take four months to process a refund...that's correct and she will tell you how it is not their fault.... and how diligently they have been working to quickly process. Guess we have another reason to wait till things return to normal before booking tickets for new shows which might well get cancelled..

Get there at 5:30 in 90*+ heat, with a good possibility of storms (show goes on rain or shine) and wait for 2 hours for the show, might be the underlying reason for slow ticket sales.

They called me Thursday about the drive-in concert cancellation and my refund was posted to my credit card on Friday. I've had a number of tickets cancelled, refunded, and rescheduled over the last 3 months and I've found the box office people to be very helpful. They are going through a tough time and must be making thousands of calls. Your situation is probably an aberration. Stuff happens. I'm sure it will get resolved eventually.

Our refund was processed the same day we were called; I guess the Entertainment Division doesn’t like bobthegolfer if he is having so much trouble getting his refund.

I read that the cost was $60. per golf cart (two people only) and $60. per auto (two people only). I don't think that is outrageous at all. That equates to $30. per person. Of course, if you decided to go by yourself, you would pay the $60. But that would be your choice.

I was refunded almost $2000. 00 worth of tickets for the Sharon ( I bought some for others ) it was back in my next statement . I thought that was excellent , most people I’ve talk to had money back but second credit statementb

If they were really concerned about the virus they would not have offered concessions and would have permitted concert goers to bring coolers. Social distancing was built in to the parking plan. The cancellation is due to low ticket sales; it's all about the money.
