Ice cream stories

Taking a cue from the candy bar thread, what's your favorite ice cream? What about it appeals to you? Have your preferences changed over the years or are you loyal to the same flavor? Where do you go in TV when you're in the mood for a cold treat?

I don't drink coffee but love coffee ice cream. Ben and Jerry's Coffee Toffee Bar Crunch is the best, but Baskin Robbins Jamoca Almond Fudge will do in a pinch.

I also look forward to seasonal availability of peppermint candy flavor, usually only available in the Fall holidays months.

I met my future wife in high school when she worked at my local Baskin Robbins and I was in there a lot! :)

True love if she gave you an employee discount.

Cherry vanilla or Moose Tracks

retiredguy123 07-09-2020 03:24 PM

Reminds me of the cartoon where a guy is in an ice cream store and the only flavors on the menu are liver, broccoli, and vanilla. And, the guy behind the counter says, "we are out of vanilla".

Graspher 07-09-2020 05:30 PM

Haagen-Dazs.....chocolate and vanilla bean mixed together and softened. This brand of ice cream - to me - has the least amount of air whipped into it yielding a creamy fulfilling taste/texture.

Stu from NYC 07-09-2020 05:50 PM

Almost any flavor of gelato

CFrance 07-09-2020 07:13 PM

Talenti Sea Salt Caramel.

Annie66 07-10-2020 05:17 AM

Anything from Mystic Ice Cream, on the adult side of the list.

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 07-10-2020 05:26 AM

Chunky Monkey with Cherry Garcia a close second.

Jodymouse 07-10-2020 05:29 AM

I love coffee ice cream from any manufacture. I love McDonalds custard. Nice and creamy and smooth.

Gerrys 07-10-2020 05:52 AM

Cherry Vanilla has been my favorite for 50 years. I now buy Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia.

Stu from NYC 07-10-2020 05:57 AM

Sad that 1/2 gallon of ice cream is no longer 1/2 gallon

Two Bills 07-10-2020 05:59 AM

A scoop each of Kilwins vanilla and Belgian chocolate ice cream goes down well.

La lamy 07-10-2020 06:04 AM

Pralines and cream is SOOOOOO GOOOOD! But I often make banana 'ice cream' out of my overripe bananas.

collector0915 07-10-2020 06:10 AM

Vanilla Bean, simple and great

Ginsanders 07-10-2020 06:11 AM

If you like coffee flavor, you will love Chick-fil-A's frosty coffee! It is a bit of coffee blended in their ice cream! But the go to place for us when family is here is Ambrosio in Lake Sumter landing, lactose free, made with fruit juices. Pineapple, line, orange and vanilla flavors and you can get a twist. Grandchildren love them! And so do we! (Less expensive too)

Mint Chocolate Chip

BlackhawksFan 07-10-2020 06:29 AM

My current favorite is mint chocolate chip but having a high A1C I've stayed away from real ice cream and have been buying no sugar added or the keto brands like Halo Top. Or Sugar Free frozen custard.

In tne past other faves were cookies and cream, rocky road and as a kid Friendly's double chocolate.

Barborv 07-10-2020 06:39 AM

Growing up, I couldnt wait till the good humor guy rang his bicycle bell and I'd run out of my house for the toasted almond bar. Mmmm
I always loved mint chip also. I'd have to say today that Kilwins toasted coconut and their mint ice cream is an absolute favorite.

Favorite Ice Cream

My all time favorite ice cream is Graeter’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk. The ice cream has large, nearly ping pong ball sized, chocolate chunks in the peanut butter ice cream. The recipe has all natural ingredients and is so thick they cannot mix it with a machine. It will burn out the mixer’s motor so it has to be hand mixed. There are other flavors available but the Peanut Butter is the bomb.:boom:

Jbaxter 07-10-2020 07:01 AM

I have always loved maplenut ice cream but can't seem to find it anywhere anymore

Ditto that! My favorite is Haagen-Dazs Mint Chip. Not always easy to find so when you do, buy a couple of containers!

That’s also happening with other products. Boxes that were 16 oz. are now 12, pasta, etc. somehow the price didn’t go down!

Coffee, although I’m not a coffee drinker, is my favorite flavor.

We love Haagen-Dazs as well. It is dense and very creamy. Surprisingly, Blue Bunny and Tillomock at Winn Dixie or Walmart is very good as well.

davem4616 07-10-2020 08:52 AM

pineapple gelato...very rare that I can find it in the States, but in Italy it's always available

mjkspear 07-10-2020 08:53 AM

My favorite is Cherry Amaretto, formerly known as Mackinac Island Fudge Cherry Amaretto. There are several small dairies in northern Michigan that make awesome ice cream. This one has pieces of maraschino cherry and large pieces of fudge, in a white or pink amaretto based ice cream. I will miss it this summer, as I'm not going north. Don't have to worry about the calories though.

Michael A. David 07-10-2020 09:15 AM

Try MYstic Ice cream on 466A in Fruitland Park.

For awhile would only buy ice cream that was actually 64 ounces but not they have all gone to it.

They could have been more honest (sort of) and just sold product with more air pumped in.

sfryzel 07-10-2020 09:49 AM

Mystic Ice Cream totally coconut! Hands down!

2newyorkers 07-10-2020 10:32 AM

Favorite flavors are Mint Chip and Chocolate Raspberry Truffle. Favorite brands are Ghiradelli and Brusters. And for the price you can not knock Publix brand especially the black jack cherry.

I haven't thought of toasted almond bars for years. They were the best. Used to like the creamsicles too. Might have been a Bungalow Bar truck, though.

To be healthy, eat only cheese and ice cream made from Goats Milk!

big guy 07-10-2020 11:58 AM

My favorite flavor used to be be Ben & Jerry's "Totally Nutz" vanilla ice cream as only they could make it with nuts of every kind. I loved the crispy crunchiness with the smooth sweet. But, alas, they stopped making it and it is a graveyard flavor now. Fast forward, tried everything and nothing compared until Blue Bell came out with "Moo-llennium Crunch". It's even better with nuts, chunks of chocolate and caramel in vanilla ice cream. It's soooo good. I try to get it in the pint sized containers so I won't eat so much. The half gallon (yes, a half gallon) is gone in 2 days between the two of us. A good second is Blue Bell "Pecan Pralines and Cream". That one is good because it's too sweet for me to eat much.

I agree that Blue Bunny is very good. I like their Cherry Chocolate Chunk better than Cherry Garcia, at half the price.

Supermarket....... Ben and Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk.

Ice cream parlor....... Brownwood's Hershey's Cappuccino Crunch. For those of you who like coffee ice cream, this is, hands down, my favorite coffee flavored ice cream. STRONG coffee flavor with lot's of heath bar crunch and large fudge pieces in there too. YUMMY!!!!
