Replacing carpeting
Thinking about replacing the bedroom and living room carpeting with either wood laminate or luxury vinyl plank. What’s your preference and who’s the best company/person to complete such a project?
|
We removed all of our carpet and installed laminate flooring throughout including bedrooms . Floor masters did the work good price great selection of flooring. Love the change easy upkeep looks great. Area rugs enhance the flooring.

We went with The Floor Shoppe in Wildwood....we really liked the choices, the install, the quality and price 352.748.4811

We used Royal Palm Flooring in Summerfield. 32-20-7650 and installed LVP, luxury vinyl plank. Love it! Neighbors have come in to see it and can't believe it's not wood and they touch it to see that it is vinyl. We went with a very light color and it makes the house look so much bigger.

I am a retired Shaw Floors employee. We had all the carpeting replaced with wood composite by Roberto's and I highly recommend them.

We replaced our old PREGO laminate flooring with vinyl plank flooring. We are very happy with it. It's waterproof, quiet, looks great, and has completely changed the look of our home for the better. We did spend the money to get a better variety that looks very real...most people can't tell it's not real wood. The color we chose was driftwood in the 8" wide planks. We used Great Lakes Carpet on 441.

of the 2, we prefer engineered wood & we install both on conc floors now,,, lvt's still linoleum to me - eng wood's refinishable & has more class imo,,, however, we're talking about YOUR house/home,,, seems to me its YOUR decision

The floor Shoppe

Regarding who to use. Remember this: the product is very much the same at most stores. Just check the manufacturer and specs of the product. What is more important is the cost, customer service and most importantly the installation. There are several good companies. We chose The Floor Shoppe because: 1- Out salesman, Angel, really took the time to help us choose the right product. 2- The price was correct. 3- the installation was fantastic. Clean, careful and professional. One last note: each store’s pricing was different. Some did not include things like new floor molding (1/4 round). Be sure your quote includes everything. The Floor Shoppe was the one place whose quote included everything. Good luck. The bottom line is our flooring looks fantastic and we couldn’t be happier. |
My question is why people remove carpeting &replace with other flooring. Then all you see is area rugs all over the house?

U will luv it! We choose laminate looks so real! Eastcoast Flooring in 441 on way to Ocala. Thomas Crook, sales. Nice showroom comes to home brings samples Suggest visit showroom
First. Thorough explanation of products. fab installers. 6 homes on our street used This company. EC |
We used Robertos for our floor. You do want all the baseboards pulled and painted when put back so they do not use a 1/4 round to fill in gap between floor and wall. Also, make sure to specify not to use transition pieces when going from a tile to wood flooring. Do not want to have a wood piece to fill in the change in height.

Vinyl plank flooring...Roberto’s on 301...did a great job, fair pricing,

I have to wonder how much off gassing vinyl planks emit. I know there is some with laminate (different types have more than others) and lots from any glue used for either real wood or engineered wood. It's a big factor for me. Made sure to let the laminate I used off gas for a long time before subjecting myself to it.

We are thinking of doing the same thing. Although I love Oak and Cherry flooring being from up north, I kinda think in Florida you go with a light color like grey. Still not sure of that. |
I totally agree with the problem of off-gassing of any of these products. The chemicals in them are toxic. Did you know that latex paint will off-gas for 7 YEARS after you paint! Oil paint is worse. I know that to be a fact as I my profession encompasses toxicity.

We went with manufactured wood flooring and are very pleased with the result.
The installation was by Royal Palm Flooring see their tel number in post #4. They have a show room and a good selection of examples of different types of flooring. The owner of the company lives in TV. |
What’s the ballpark price to replace carpet with luxury flooring either vinyl, wood, or tile for many rooms or the whole house? Is it around $5K, $10K, $20k?
|
Luxury vinyl planking. Love it. Robertos did the job. Bought a home in New Jersey for the summers and had all carpeting ripped out and vinyl installed there.

We went with hand scraped rustic bamboo floating floor. High quality vinly planks are a good alternative. I've installed both. The vinyl is easier to cut & lay.
If you like a rustic look than choose a distressed wood flooring. Scratches just add to it's character & can easily be touched up. As a diyer I have had a lot of experience laying floor for family and friends. I would not choose : a. Pristine wood type floor, it will scratch, you won't be happy, b. Pergo type flat smooth flooring that to me looks like plastic, or c. Cheap looking vinyl plank flooring. If it doesn't fake you into believing it's wood, don't by it. I would also recommend that you actually see the floor installed somewhere. you really can't tell what a floor is going to look like until it's actually installed in a room. |
We have tile and love it. No carpet for us!

We were frankly more than a little surprised to find laminate flooring in a kitchen. However, it looked to be in like new condition, so we just left it. It's now about fifteen years old and still looks really good! We'd heard mixed reviews about Floor Masters but prefer to make such judgments for ourselves. We did the balance of the house in stages and thus dealt with several different installers (who are independent agents, not employees). We could not have been more pleased with them and the sales and management crew at Floor Masters itself. |
We have vinyl planking and laminate floors in 2 different homes. I suggest if you get laminate choose a lighter color. It does not show the cleaning streaks on floor as easily and keeps your rooms looking light. Love my vinyl planking but it did show dents/scratches when I move the refrigerator. The vinyl planking is easy on the feet. Both are easy to keep clean. Whatever you choose you will love the flooring compared to carpeting.

Most people (you excluded, apparently:)) think it looks nice. We used Great Lakes for the floor in a den. Great job. Our neighbors did their whole villa in wood and used Roberto's, who sent out an entire cleaning crew the next day and cleaned the house from top (even cabinet tops) to bottom. They were very pleased. |
We did a combination. The house was all tile with the exceptions of the bedrooms which was the gorgeous shaggy crap. We redid two of the bedrooms with a high level carpet with a high grade pad and the third bedroom with a wood laminate. For us, something about walking on a soft carpet in the bedroom has always been appealing. The third bedroom is actually a den/office so we did the wood just for a variety.

Roberto’s
Great selection and prices. We went with a quality laminate product. Very pleased with process and outcome. |

VGM Flooring

Vincent and Michael were complete professional in every step of the way. The price was great and they had just what we wanted. The crew was great and the job was done when promised and to our satisfaction. The best complement I can give Vinny and Mike is that my brother-in-law hired them to put luxury vinyl planking over the tile in his entire house. My brother-in-law is very particular about the work done in his house and he was completely satisfied. VGM has been working in the area over 10 years and has great reviews. We are pleased and highly recommend. (and no this is not a paid advertisement.... we just love the work they did!!) |
I would not use engineered wood floors. They ding and scratch easily as I have some in my house in NJ.

I personally prefer the real thing, but that doesn't seem to be a thing down here. We did remove what carpet that was remaining in the preowned house we purchased. They had put down stuff in many rooms that couldn't tolerate water AT ALL! That product (thank goodness) was no longer available, so we didn't have to feel guilty about upgrading to a better product
