NYC to offer free day care to 100,000 kids
 

Since full-time school isn’t safe in NYC, Mayor de Blasio will provide child care for 100,00 students. Indoors. With other kids. And adult supervision.

How is this different from kids in school with teachers you ask?

They are calling them "learning labs" so that's different.

Gee, I guess the real tax payers in NY with be filing bankruptcy because they won't be able to afford the increase in taxes to pay for that idiotic idea.

What is an "out of context link"? Never heard that one before. I simply posted a link to a news story about the free day care. Thread title sums it up perfectly "NYC to offer free day care to 100,000 kids".

Some think schools are not safe for kids and teachers. Actual science and data says it's not dangerous. So NYC has come up with a
Rube Goldberg scheme to have kids go to school from 1 to 3 days per week. So to help poorer families, NYC offers this free day care service. So if a kid goes to regular school 2 day a week, then goes to the day care 3 days a week. So for 5 days a week the kid is in an enclosed space with other kids and an adult. No difference from full time school.

It's kind of hilarious that they are proposing grouping kids together indoors with adult supervision, the same exact thing that happens in a school.

Wonder how this gets paid for?

We came up with $3T to give to businesses (Treasury is considering forgiving the "loans"), I think a few billion to help families with children be able to go back to work is not unreasonable.

How do you propose we repay the $3T?

Look how DiBlasio has wasted NYC tax money in the past.

Give, give, give until it is all funny money.

If you give money to a poor person they spend it to LIVE. Give money to a rich person they save it.

It only covers about 10% of the students. The article says it’s a supplement to the blended learning (2-3 days in class) for working parents. It will be in libraries, rec centers, etc. with 15 kids per location. They label it as a learning lab. Who’s going to supervise the kids? How are the kids going to get there & home? Sounds like another political play with out much planning.

To a point I agree wit what you say. However, it’s time these politicians keep telling people it’s free. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Somewhere someone is paying for it. This, the riots and total lack of respect for the police are the reasons why people of means are leaving NY City in droves. These are the people who pay taxes. When there gone who picks up the tab?

In my humble opinion, it has more to do with placating the teacher's union than it does in helping the handful of children involved.

Margaret Thatcher said that..

Teachers union is more of a political organization looking out for their members than for the children they are suppose to help get an education

She actually said. “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”

My favorite quote of hers was, "I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end."

Other than I didnt give credit to a woman I was pretty close to what she said and do agree with her on socialism.

Did you actually read the article? These kids will be spread all over the city with limited groups of 15. They will use libraries, museums and any available spaces they can find to utilize. There are other interesting details too. Sounds like a brilliant way to get parents back to work and keep city workers busy. Lessens unemployment for many. Helping others and thinking outside of the box does not have to be a negative.
