We have camera's all around the outside that can be seen on our smart phone.

What is a "Wyze" camera? Is that a brand name?

A LOT of people in our Village are "camera-d up".

I think it is a good idea.

retiredguy123 08-07-2020 09:38 AM

Wyze is a brand name for small HD video cameras. You can buy them at Home Depot or Amazon, starting at $25 each. They are a good deal.

dewilson58 08-07-2020 12:28 PM

Yep.............Wyze is a brand name.
I have a number of them.
I C all on my phone.............would like 2 C on laptop.
Wyze does not have laptop software, only for smart phones.

There are a number of non-Wyze programs out there for the laptop, but very protective of my laptop.

Wyze uses an app to operate the cameras. So, if your laptop has Windows 10, you should be able to download the Wyze app for PCs, and view your cameras. They also have an app for MACs. Older laptops that don't have Windows 10 may not be able to install apps.

retiredguy123 08-07-2020 01:08 PM

Another option is to buy an inexpensive tablet and install the Wyze app onto it.

IIRC from when I had one years ago the "Wyze app for PC's" is a 3rd party program. You can use RSTP protocol & VLC but may need to do some firmware mods or enable RSTP on the cam if it has it in the firmware.

Can I use Wyze Cam with my desktop computer? – Wyze

Thanks for the replies so far.

Hoping there is an off-brand working for someone.

Otherwise, just waiting for Wyze to catch-up.

I received an email from Wyze about august 1 where in they indicated they were going to start charging a fee for using their app. It was confusing because they were going to star with users offering a donation for the service, and then access if generated enough revenue. I called and left a message, haven’t heard. If anyone knows what’s going on leave a message here.

That's if you want continuous recording. It's more or less a data storage fee for a lot of data.

No fee for live looks, or 12 second event recording.

I thought you can install an SD storage card in the camera and store as much video as you want on the card.

Foxmd 08-08-2020 07:28 AM

I have used Wyze for several years and been very happy with them.

You can't store as much as you can. You can only store to the capacity of the card

We use Reolink cameras because they support 5Ghz networks, got tired of the slow 2.4 and the more you have on it the slower it gets. We can view them on any device. We also have a set of CCTV cameras. A bit of overkill, but I enjoy playing around with them and especially recording overnight and seeing what wildlife ventures through.

View Android Apps on Windows 10 PC

Do a Google search for an application called Blue Stacks. It is an Android emulator. Simply put, it creates a emulation of the Android operating system (used in many cellphones and tablets.) on your PC. This allows you to download the Wyze android app on your PC and view it. I use this to keep track of many of my Android only apps. It is not the as easy as having a dedicated Windows 10 application, but it does allow you to view the Wyze app as well many other Android apps on your PC.
Good Luck,
Mike H.

Wyze cam PC software

I think there is a server / program called TinyCam that allows you to view Wyze activity on your PC. I saw where someone said it was available on Amazon. Might want to do a google search on that.

Llepore52 08-08-2020 08:54 AM

Check out TinyCam app. I’ve read it works with Wyze on your PC. Also look on the Wyze forum. You can post a message there to ask folks.

Llepore52 08-08-2020 09:02 AM

Lookup TinyCam. I hear it let’s you view Wyze in your PC. Have not tried it. Or go to the Wyze website and check their support forum.

Wyze cameras

I have had great success with Wyze cameras and they are a bargain. I am in their early adopter program and just received their new outdoor cameras - I plan to install them today. I have cameras both here in the Villages and in Michigan.

I monitor them from my iPhone and iPad. Haven’t tried to use my laptop but you should be able to download their app.

dewilson58 08-08-2020 10:28 AM

Up-Date

Found BlueStacks and it's working great.
It's a software for the enhancement of video games.

Download BlueStacks on your laptop.
Then within BlueStacks, download Google Play.
Within Google Play, download the Wyze app.
Sign into your Wyze account.

Works Great.

I have two cameras. $30 each, installed. What does your cost, installed?

rgoosman 08-09-2020 07:32 AM

I'm not sure if I have Waze, but I can view my cameras on the network by putting the ip address in any browser.

I installed "BlueStacks" on my Windows 10 laptop. Then installed the Wyze app using BleuStacks from the Play Store. I can view my cameras and on my laptop the same as on my iPhone.

$1000 for 4 camera's and recorder installed. Yours do not come with installation labor. NO monthly fee on ours like your brand. Your little short video clips from the cloud can't be compared to our 30 day continuous recording in 5 megapixel or 4K. Our system is built into the house and add value when you sell your home. You get what you pay for.

Thanks for the contact info. I’ve been thinking about going that route. I’ve done my own with Reolink and some cheap CCTV cameras that pair with small monitors. Does your system have the option of remote access via smartphone or laptop?

Diver Man 08-10-2020 03:15 PM

Have been using bluestacks for a couple of years. Works great with my wyze cameras and lights also sprinkler system, which both do not have native windows support. Also was earlier supporter of wyze outdoor cam, currently testing one now, better resolution and battery life then my Arlo cameras.

Careful with an open IP Address there are IP crawlers out there looking for unsecured cameras. 20 years ago when cameras first came on the scene, i hacked into a european couples' living room camera, and moved the camera around the room while they were watching tv. they stopped watching tv and started watching the camera

LOL!
