Digital Villages resident ID
Anyone know if there are any plans for a digital ID for the phone so we don’t have to carry around the physical ID.
Or is a picture on your phone of your ID sufficient for pools, recreation centers etc. |

A photo of your ID card is not acceptable. You must present the actual ID card.

Not sure about future plans, I would vote a resounding YES!!!!
However we were told by one employee when we forgot ours at the pool that a picture of it was not accepted, couldn't hurt if in a bind, but try to more mindful. My personal issue with the picture is I can never find it on my phone unless I remember the date I took it. |

Second, the gates have two important purposes. Most importantly, they help automobile and golf cart traffic co-exist. In many places, without the gates slowing cars, it would be very dangerous for golf carts. Also, the gates slow down cars so security cameras can get a picture of each cars license plate. If a crime is committed and a witness can identify an associated automobile, the owner of the vehicle can be easily identified. |
I like the idea of digital village ID as acceptable beside the paper one. Gates are not for security but to slow cars to give golf carts a chance to get by, ie. Traffic control. Why do people keep thinking the gates are for security reasons?

The card/button is redundant and an unnecessary expense. |

I’ve never rented out my place so I don’t know, but do you have to surrender your ID when you turn your house over to renters? If so, then having a picture of your ID on your phone should not be a valid ID.

Here in the villages is NOT a true gated community. vendors do not have gate passes, therefore, must use the red button. Also true for visitors

I will NOT buy a fancy phone just to have my ID card on.........Just another item for the scammers, and hackers to get hold of. Many villagers are NOT permanently attached to their phones like some. Slowing to swipe a card, or slowing for an automatic opening is fine.

I asked why they don't allow a digital version of the ID, the answer is that a digital version could be copied and it would take longer for someone to look at it to verify that it is real you. It could be photoshopped with a different picture.

Of course they could also program the system so that when you were within 30 days of needing to pay your annual trail fee you'd get a notice by email and when you used the online reservation system to make a tee time. |

I thought the gates were to keep us old folks from wandering off :)

I have a phone case that carries credit cards. If it’s that important to carry cell phone why not carry ID and driver’s license.

Photo of our Resident ID Card on your Phone
Last summer I was constantly forgetting my ID card when we played bridge at one of the rec centers (often left it in the pool bag). I took a photo of the ID card and the lady that scans it accepted it and it scanned. Now, maybe she recognized me since we saw each other weekly. But my point is: take a picture of your ID and store it in your photos in a place you can easily find it. That way, if you forget your card, you have a back up that will likely be accepted, especially if you have secondary ID on you. I find those scanning ID’s use good discretion, at least in the off-season. I’ve been given a pass on through when I’ve forgotten my card. I appreciate them not being hard a$$es abut it.

As a renter in the Villages, NOT having a digital ID is like living in the 1930s. They should have options for people.

Create an album so you Can find it quickly. I have one called paperwork where I keep photo of DL, passport, villages ID etc Makes it easy to locate

Being a completely gated community would have also had the advantage of slowing down traffic, but it comes with a huge price tag in the form of street maintenance. |

A fully gated community is not possible in Sumter Co

Send an email to yourself and attach photo. Quick search on your name.

some may like this...others will be happy with what exists today

I worry about losing it between the car and the golf cart. They should accept a picture scan just like the stores do for coupons.
