Bridge Be Gone (False Rumor)

I am hearing a strong rumor that the iconic Golf Cart Bridge is going to be no longer when the 441/27 Road widening is completed. I do not know at this point how you will arrive and depart to the HIstorical side at this time though.

How is a "strong rumor" different from a BS rumor? Or one someone just "made up" to stir the pot?

CWGUY 08-13-2020 05:50 PM

:a040: Oh good ..... we love rumors..... even BS rumors!

Stu from NYC 08-13-2020 06:10 PM

According to the waiter at a restaurant we go to it is going to be made in apartments.

Perhaps a new iconic bridge - like the ones over 44?

villagetinker 08-13-2020 06:25 PM

441 is already 3 lanes north and South in this area, no need to further widen, the road widening project is in locations where the road is only 2 lanes in each direction, so i do not think you need to worry.

OrangeBlossomBaby 08-13-2020 06:26 PM

Maybe they'll replace it with one that has a sidewalk on one side of it for pedestrians (since the sign clearly states that it's for golf carts and pedestrians but only crazy people will actually walk over that thing).

And maybe it'll be JUST a little less steep. Just a tiny bit less.

And maybe it'll curve more gradually when it gets close to "the tree" (or hey maybe it could just go around that tree to the south).

If the bridge has to be longer to accommodate the new width of the road beneath it, all the above can be possible!

I have to wonder how many people have scraped their tires raw on that bridge.

It's a scary thing! I've gotten really good at it though. No scrape since December!

Oh let them worry, takes their minds off other subjects

That's hilarious ! So then the politicians will make an exception to the rule that golf carts can cross the street just like they did at Stone-crest.

Mleeja 08-13-2020 08:59 PM

Lordy people! Read all the posts before replying! As posted earlier, the section of 441 where the bridge crosses is all ready 3 lanes in each direction. The widening will take place south of the bridge!

The bridge to the Historic Section will always be the iconic bridge. The other ones will always be just the other bridges.

Nucky 08-14-2020 03:26 AM

So what. Take the Bridge away. Just let us cross by Golf Cart thru the Boone Gate and pick the best spot down near Silver Lake to cross. Somewhere that leaves you off near The Villages Golf Cart Store.

It WILL NEVER HAPPEN! File this story near the Duke Energy Golf Cart Path File! Remember? I do!

Patience, when you drive in The Villages, is what is called for. Don't rush anyone who is doing their best getting over that bridge or driving a little slow. Big Deal! The thread about the 6 MPH over the limit ticket made me think. I think it's great that the OP posted the Post but what makes anyone think that any suggestion is going to change anyone's mind about the speed they drive at. It ain't happening. The die is cast and some behaviors can't be undone.

The Hysterical Bridge is in pretty good shape and replacing it just is a dovetail story onto the Hacienda situation. Now many things will be considered for a knockdown, including the homes in the Hysterical Section which someone on here called for the wrecking ball to be used just last week.

It's still beautiful here. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

Wiserbud47 08-14-2020 04:07 AM

Wrong bridge

The bridge that is going to be removed on 441 is the bridge near the new shopping plaza (Miller Ale House, Goodwill), next to the Lady Lake government building.

Thank you! I was just getting ready to give the same reply. Everyone jumps before thinking. And thats how the BS rumors start. TV is #1 for gossip as it is!!!

rjsantos592 08-14-2020 05:53 AM

Why do you continue to call it the "Hysterical Side"?

Dana1963 08-14-2020 06:13 AM

The road widening and bridge removal is down after Sam’s

CBarrett 08-14-2020 06:22 AM

According to the news article I read, The bridge being eliminated is the one over 25, down by Miller's Ale House.

Marathon Man 08-14-2020 06:30 AM

"Strong rumor". I guess that is a rumor that should be believed, as opposed to a weak rumor which should not be believed (but is believed anyway).

TandHSTAR@AOL.com 08-14-2020 06:36 AM

Actually it's Spruce Creek South not Stonecrest.

TandHSTAR@AOL.com 08-14-2020 06:37 AM

Because they do not know how to spell historical

I read that the project will be from Avenida Central/Griffin Road heading south.

jimh123 08-14-2020 06:52 AM

NO...it's not the Golf Cart Bridge that will be taken down....it's the bridge just south of Lady Lake City Hall !

In all my life I have never seen so many people passing rumors without any facts. Just want to be the first one on the keyboard.

Pedestrians should not be allowed on that bridge. It is very dangerous as the curvature of the bridge makes it impossible to see anything on the opposite side of the apex. It is much better for walkers to use the crosswalks. TV should run a spur off the paradise park walking path to the main street crosswalk for bikers and walkers and make the "iconic" bridge GC only.

greenflash245 08-14-2020 07:31 AM

and,,,, what I an iconic bridge?

And maybe it won't be so darn fakey-ugly. The new ones are so much classier.

starman215 08-14-2020 07:33 AM

Stu, THAT IS REALLY FUNNY THANKS FOR THE MORNING LAUGH

greenflash245 08-14-2020 07:33 AM

Is there a prize for being in first place?

Less than those going over the Morse (LSL) Bridge. :D

Moderator 08-14-2020 07:46 AM

This appears to be a false rumor ... another bridge, well south of The Villages, is the actual subject. Thread closed to prevent further hysterics.
