Driveway entertainment
We recently had Kurt Frohlich to play a driveway concert for us. Kurt is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the LA Guns and lead singer and guitarist for The Hooligans, in my opinion one of the best bands to ever play on the squares. They have a new song about TV called The Village. He is also the head nerd for the Spazmatics, one of the most entertaining bands to play on the squares. He is one of the nicest gentleman you would ever meet. He was very professional and accommodating. He played a two hour show with a great mix of rock and roll from the 60's to 90's. He is available now for booking at kirdance@gmail.com.

Driveway Entertainment
Is there a limit on how many people you can have at these driveway concerts?
|
Not being funny but, but just who are the " L.A. Guns " ? Do they have a home or are they street people ?

and your mental health. Villagers need more of it! |
Our village hasn't had any driveway concerts. We are having a pandemic in the central part of The Villages. Gatherings are discouraged.

Great idea! I’m going to look into this. I would love to have a live band do driveway entertainment at my house. I’ll open my front windows and have a crazy dance party with my husband inside in my underwear. Y’all can do whatever you want outside!

Even though I live where there is very little Covid at this point I have no desire for gatherings, even while 6 feet apart, until we have a proper vaccine that is thoroughly proven to work, or effective treatments. But glad you found it enjoyable. Hopefully all are safe.

Ok so you had your say to bring "perspective" into this conversation. Tracii would never do a driveway gig. Too good for us looking to put a little sunshine in our life. ?? Tracii's loss. Stay Safe.

I’m glad you were able to have Kurt entertain you and your neighbors. He is a highly talented musician. I miss him and The Hooligans more than words can tell!

L.A. Guns - Wikipedia |
We actually went to a driveway concert where they had tenor Mark Stephen Schmidt sing. It was fabulous and he sang for an hour. It was free to book him. His manager had a tip jar sitting on a table and everyone contributed. There were couples dancing in the street and singing along. It was really a nice evening. I would estimate there were probably 25 people in carts and in lawn chairs with proper distancing. Really a treat!!

We have. Everyone spaced out in their golf carts and all are well after 3 weeks. Fear of COVID 19 does not need to overwhelm our lives.

Steve Riley is still with the band

Here here on The Hooligans and Spazmatics! The only band I do NOT miss is Rocky and the Elders. <ducking - don't shoot! :) >
Interesting article from 2018 on "the other news site" regarding pay scales for the bands. The title was "Huge gap exists in pay scale for performers at Villages town squares" if you want to search for it. You'll have to fill in the banks to read it: xxxxxxxx-xxxx.xxx/2018/09/30/huge-gap-exists-in-pay-scale-for-performers-at-villages-town-squares/ |

I played a 2 hour driveway concert in The Villages a couple of months ago. What a pleasant experience! The audience observed sensible distancing, many of them enjoyed the show from the shade of their golf carts. It is comforting to read that folks are able to get together socially without raising risk to themselves or others. The "driveway" approach may be with us for a while, we really don't know enough about Covid-19 to make predictions.
If you are thinking of setting up a show, and you have a shaded spot for an entertainer, and a 110 volt power outlet, you can call me at 949 338 1359 Robert James. I play for fun and tips. No heavy hard rock, mostly old pop songs and easy listening country music. |
Those are so much fun. We attended one in our neighborhood by tenor vocalist, Mark Steven Schmidt. We all drove our golf carts, socially distanced...it actually incorporated 2 -3 houses on each side of the street, so there was plenty of room for social distance dancing too!

As far as what's permissible for gatherings, Just say your protesting! Then -NO PROBLEM!
Also, as long as everyone is wearing a mask and not on top of each other, I don't see the harm. You get a lot closer at the doctors office, or in the supermarket etc. I think that was so wonderful of him to do that for his neighbors |
Apologies
My wife told me to let it slide but guess what. I am sorry I did not specify that it was the Steve Riley version of the LA Guns. Mr. Riley is co owner of the name LA Guns. Traci Ulrich aka Traci Guns has been in and out of the band numerous times over the last 30 or so years. I never said Kurt was Traci Guns. The party was spread out over 4 driveways with attendance of 25 to 30 people observing social distancing.
I last saw The Hooligans on March 12th which was the last time they/he played live. I saw this as a way for him to make a living for his family and for my family and my neighbors to enjoy some great entertainment. It has been 11 days and no one is sick. So I am sorry I wasn't specific, I am sorry I tried to help out a fine gentleman, and I am sorry I posted. |

I hope this doesn't encourage wanna be " Karaoke " followers . Poor us.
Rocky please, please you don't need the practice stay calm, you and your group will be back at the squares before you know it. Enjoy this moment while you can. That goes for all entertainers. Our neighborhoods are nice and quiet and peaceful..... Think " Pavilion's " ... thumbs up. |

I've experienced only one so far. I didn't know it was going on until I tried driving past it on the way home from work. There were some people standing in the middle of our street watching the woman sing, and they seemed oblivious that someone was trying to drive past and didn't get out of my way.
I had to beep my horn, and EVERYONE turned to look at me. I was like doods. I just worked a 6-hour shift moving carts in the hot sun for near-minimum wage. Just get the heck out of the way and let me go HOME and change out of these sweaty disgusting clothes for crying out loud. What was worse, was it was yet ANOTHER off-key rendition of God Bless the USA on a karaoke machine. Maybe that's some kind of new anthem for various persons, but it's way too smarmy for me to have to hear right after battling swarms of disgruntled, non-mask-wearing, coughing, snot-nosed kids and adults whining about a lack of hand sanitizer on the shelves (this was during the start of the pandemic). I'm a critic, yes. I know I'm overly critical. I'm also a musician so I can't really help it, it's carved into my DNA. But I really don't want to hear off-key singing at full volume being blasted toward my house and over two dozen people lined up and blocking traffic to listen to it. If it were the Hooligans I'd probably pay for the privilege. But if you're going to do an "outdoor concert" with microphones and speakers, you really need to check with your neighbors before booking the entertainment. |

Without the headset I suggest the shower, once out of the shower back to the headset. PS: Just a suggestion record yourself, and honestly you will likely get rid of the Karaoke machine, and find another pastime. Checkers ? |

The police won't ever be called by most of us but most of us are taking this very seriously. Polls show that 80% of the American Public, no matter how you vote or what age you are, are listening to Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx and they do not think this pandemic will be over soon. I was the one who said this before and I will say it again. We aren't having driveway parties in our village of Bridgeport at Laurel Valley because there IS a worldwide pandemic going on and 45 people have died from Covid-19 in small little Sumter County since March. |
