Lanai Door Hard to Close
1 Attachment(s)
My elderly neighbor's door is hard to close. The bottom sill has some notches or bumps that appear to hinder closer.
Any ideas on a fix? We cleaned the plate and sprayed a little WD40. See picture. TIA |
It looks like one of the rails may have a slight dent, but I don't know if that is the problem. Also, WD-40 is a solvent, not a lubricant. You might try a silicone or lithium lubricant on the door part. But, if that doesn't work, you probably need a good handyman.

In Summerfield was recommended for roller replacement. 352-245-3013 561-449-1910 It was also suggested to apply "Door Ease" lubricant to the track where the rollers touch. It's like a big crayon. It's under a couple of bucks, should be available at any hardware store or Home Depot, etc. Here's a link to show you what it looks like. |
Hunter window repair. Very prompt, knowledgeable and reasonable. Fixed our on a Sat not extra charges. William Hunter, 352-217-1401.

The picture looks like the roller bed has some rough surfaces and those need to be smoothed. The rollers are probably shot as well and replacing them along with smothing the roller bed ridges will help a lot. Those doors are REALLY HEAVY so if you're not pretty good with heavy, bulky things, then best you leave all that to one of the contacts given above. I did mine and got another couple of years use before replacing the entire door system. But - wow, those doors are REALLY HEAVY and a pain to move around.

Another vote for Steve Van Es (352-245-3013). He worked his magic on our lanai doors about two months ago. What a difference! They slide quietly and easily now.

Might just need the rollers adjusted to lift the door more.
|
Have you tried tightening the hinge screws?
|
lift up and take it off the track...wheels are gone I would assume.replace with new

I want to thank everyone for the great suggestions!

It's really not that big of a job, but you need a helper and something to lay the door on that's high enough you can work on the bottom. You will have to remove the fixed door first to get the moving door off so do it on a cool morning. |

Lani door fix
The rail on the track for the sliding door is aluminium and they wear un-even. You can purchase a stainless steel cap for the rail that will allow the door to glide smoothly. It is very easy to install, it just snaps over the aluminium rail.

you are so sweet and kind to help these older folks out. Thank you. God Bless.

I had same problem. I had to replace the rollers. Not too difficult, but door very heavy. My particular model you have to remove the lower frame to get to rollers. Once you get the lower frame off you can get the roller’s assemble out to disassemble and replace roller from the bracket.
There are three sizes of rollers. Somebody before me installed too small rollers and the adjustment was maxed out and wouldn’t lift the frame off the trace causing it to drag. How do I know this cause I brought the exact size of the old ones and then door still was hard to close. I got bigger wheels So I could raise the door off the track and have some adjustment. After I cleaned up the trace and got the new rollers in it slide smooth as glass. You have to be careful it you do this yourself, the door heavy, remove the lower frame off the glass using block of wood and dead blow hammer. Going back together wasn’t too hard other than maneuvering the heavy door back on traces without pinching fingers or smashing toe. |
