Trailwinds Publix

The new Publix at Trailwinds Plaza on 466A has a sign in front. It will open at 7am on Thursday, August 27. I'm looking forward to it.

Other businesses coming to the shops alongside Publix are
Great Clips
Helen's Nails & Spa
Sunrise Asian
Marco's Pizza

JSR22 08-24-2020 08:36 AM

I am looking forward to Publix opening in Trailwinds. I definitely will shop there instead of Colony. No golf carts!

Right...good point!

Will Sunrise Asian be a restaurant or a food market?

The new Publix in Trailwinds is on 466A not 466.

10 months is normal for that size store.

kittygilchrist 08-24-2020 02:08 PM

Great! I was waiting for that too!

A Starbucks is also coming to this area. It will be a free-standing store, across the street behind Circle K.

Been going to Aldi in front of the Publix since we moved here six months ago.

Generally less than 10 cars in front of the Publix making me think they had slowed down construction. This past Sunday there must have been at least 50 cars in front.

daca55 08-25-2020 07:28 AM

The opening of this Publix could spell death for Winn Dixie in Phinelas Place.

merrymini 08-25-2020 07:44 AM

It appears that winn dixie does not do as well as publix. I prefer publix and shop there. Financially, as a corporation, Winn dixie does not seem as strong either. The new supermarket at magnolia plaza was supposed to be a winn dixie until they pulled out and publix went in. I have no proof for these opinions except for what I have read and heard about the two companies.

Hackercraft 08-25-2020 07:48 AM

You better hope not

Winn Dixie is what keeps Publix prices reasonable. We moved here from the Zeppherhills area and both stores operate there quite successfully.

JerryLBell 08-25-2020 08:25 AM

While a new retail presence is always appreciated, I'm not feeling like we really needed yet another Publix. That's mostly because I live in the middle of a rectangle, each corner of which will now have a Publix - Colony, Trailwinds, Grand Traverse and Lake Deaton. And, before too long, the one down by the Everglades recreation center. My wife and I would really have been happier with a new grocery presence in The Villages, such as Harris Teeter, Kroger, Wegmans or Trader Joes. Of course, a Costco would have really made us happy.

gbush39@comcast.ne 08-25-2020 08:47 AM

ah shuck's but someone will figure away. Have to sort of agree though.

Wonder how this will affect Aldi's business. Their prices are much cheaper but of course a much more limited selection.

NavyVet 08-25-2020 09:43 AM

Looking forward to it. Colony too crowded, parking lot always jammed. Been going to Lake Deaton because it's easier, though farther away.
There is a reason Publix does better than Winn Dixie; more variety, better healthier options. Very hard to find low sodium, organic, etc products at Winn Dixie and their produce is meh at best. Both chains do have some good BOGOs though.

Dana1963 08-25-2020 01:10 PM

And Fenny area is still WAITING

westernrider75 08-25-2020 07:39 PM

I’m not yet a villager but have visited several times. I thought Publix was more expensive that Winn Dixie, so wondering why it seems to have more of a presence?

Publix is way more expensive but they do present better. Aldi is at the other end but also appeals to a customer base. We shop at Winn Dixie as much as we can but expect to pay 10-15% more when we go to Publix. I agree with the post that said Winn Dixie helps to keep Publix prices on check. I've lived in CA, NY, WI and TX and groceries in The Villages are expensive. More so than even Pavilions in CA.

Interesting how food here is more expensive than elsewhere, even OJ that grows in Florida

Good to know, hopefully it is NY style pizza

alanmcdonald 08-27-2020 06:30 AM

I was the first person to check out at the new Publix this morning so they consider me the first customer. They had me sign a dollar bill and took my picture with the store manager.

There was a long line when they opened but it moved quickly.

New Englander 08-27-2020 01:09 PM

I went to Aldi today about noon and the new Publix had a very full parking lot.

I don't think the Publix near the Everglades Rec Center is open yet. But, just to clarify, the Everglades Rec Center is not in the Village of Fenney. It is in the Village of Marsh Bend. Fenney is not an area, it is a residential village. Some people think that the entire area south of Rt 44 is called Fenney. But, there are about eight or so residential villages south of Rt 44 and Fenney is only one of them.

Congratulations.

I drove by on my way to Lowes today. It is rather interesting how crowded the parking lot was. Hasn't anyone in The Villages been to a Publix before??? Maybe it is the novelty of having to drive a car to the store rather than a golf cart.

coffeebean 08-28-2020 12:59 PM

The layout of this new Publix is not like any of the existing Publix in The Villages. Seems this is a new prototype. Layout of the aisles is pretty much the same but that is where the similarity ends. I won't go into detail on this thread. Better to see it for yourself.

We got there by 7:30 am the morning of the grand opening. We ladies were given a carnation. We also received a nice large insulated green Publix bag which was used to bag our groceries. Then, as we were leaving the store, there were "goodie" bags being given out in the lobby. In the bag were not only coupons but sample size packages of snacks and even instant mashed potatoes. Very nice for a grand opening.

This new Publix is beautiful!!! Colony is my usual Publix but I will enjoy going to this new Publix every once in a while.

patfla06 08-28-2020 03:44 PM

Trailwinds Publix is amazing.
Their deli section is stand alone and very large.
They have an elevator to the 2nd floor where you can sit and eat lunch.

Opening day they gave you a Publix insulated bag.
Employees were so nice and accommodating.

Much closer than Colony is to us.

YAY Publix. 👍🏻

asianthree 08-28-2020 04:51 PM

Well if they were giving something for free, it’s going to be packed

Jima64 08-28-2020 05:09 PM

better

cleaner stores and higher quality employees overall.

vinricci 08-29-2020 07:24 AM

Wonder if prices will be lower than the other Publix since they don’t have to pay the Developers.

JSR22 08-29-2020 07:31 AM

I doubt it

They have to pay the Trailwinds Developer. I think the prices will be the same.

charlieo1126@gmail.com 08-29-2020 09:09 AM

Oh yes way out here in Fenney

Very nice store and friendly and helpful employees.

Wish it was more competitive with other stores in the area.

You pay for convenience. If you want price then you accept less.

They do stock more things than most supermarkets for sure.

Found a few things we had been looking for such as horseradish and plain Kodiak Hot Cake mix (in other publix only saw the cinnamon and choc chip versions).

EdFNJ 08-29-2020 09:16 PM

Nice store and (currently) well stocked. What I found surprising is in the "Deli area" they had a "public" buffet (serve yourself) items. Open olive bar with the glass "sneeze protector" over it that the little lady almost got her head under but her hair def made it and wide opened fried chicken items (strips, nuggets etc) that you pick up with tongs. You don't see much of that type of thing these days with sanitizing being the big thing. They did have a fresh "salad bar" but employees with gloves & masks made the salads as you instructed them. So if they could have open olive bar and loose opened fried chicken stuff why couldn't they have an opened salad bar? Fresh produce is different because you can wash them first.

They did have a very large selection of PACKAGED prepared meals compared to the Colony store which has comparatively very little.

Viperguy 08-30-2020 05:56 AM

Actually it's Walmart and Aldi and the big box stores that keep the prices down. Competition
