Should the Squares stay closed?

Should the three Village Squares open back up or should they stay closed until a proven and useable vaccine for Covid 19 is found? We are talking about crowds, live music and dancing. There are reports on unmentioned sites to be movement at the squares to indicate the possibility of some type of activity coming relatively soon. If they open we wouldn’t go anyway, but what about you? This seems to be improbable given the age and vulnerable population of The Villages. Wishful thinking on some residents part perhaps.

A woman who works in the Village's Entertainment Department posted on FB today that there is NO schedule for music to return to the squares.

kstew43 08-31-2020 10:29 AM

so what does that mean exactly....... not for the future or never again.

They do not have an opening date. She did not say never.

Dana1963 08-31-2020 10:46 AM

They say it takes 2 weeks to break a habit. After 5 months being shut down I could care less, stopped drinking found there is other things in life’s highway to do.

gatorbill1 08-31-2020 10:51 AM

Don't look at our doctored positivity rate - look at the number of deaths - they are positive

GreySkies 08-31-2020 12:28 PM

Just moved into TV, leasing for 6 months to see if purchasing a home here is a desired option. Yea I am a bit sad knowing that the three village squares are in a limited use mode for now. I do know that these venues in a limited use stage should not be the primary used as a primary decision point for any future TV purchase. I am sure that eventually things will get back to normal, 6 months maybe another year?

billethkid 08-31-2020 01:02 PM

NO!

My guess TV is trying/waiting to avoid the no win task of enforcing guidelines, hence they will wait until a desired stability is reached (what ever that means to who ever).

soonerforever 08-31-2020 01:38 PM

Open them all...those that don't want to come--let them stay home...The Villages are about living not dying....to those of you that want to push your way on everyone---Communism is not for America.

ficoguy 08-31-2020 02:56 PM

Oh it'll be back for snowbird season....they will complain so bitterly about not being able to swig and swag on the squares....

Back at U

ficoguy 08-31-2020 03:01 PM

When the snowbirds fly south the squares will open...because they will itch and moan till the Morses get sick and obtain an executive order from the governor for libabtions and line dancing

tophcfa 08-31-2020 04:03 PM

Yes

ficoguy 08-31-2020 05:02 PM

Maybe never. Just be prepared.

Exactly!

jaj523 09-01-2020 03:30 AM

What exactly are the number of deaths in The Villages? All I see are stats about the counties.

FromNY 09-01-2020 05:06 AM

Agree open them. Probably safer then dancing inside at the restaurants or having driveway parties that interfere in neighborhoods. Seriously people are gathering. If you are at risk it is Your responsibility to protect Yourself. Wear the mask or stay home.

THUNDERCHIEF 09-01-2020 05:07 AM

Stay closed

Rwirish 09-01-2020 05:15 AM

2025 from what I hear.

Bad Moon Rising 09-01-2020 05:15 AM

I would go if they re-open!

More people die of the flu than the virus!

paulledbetter 09-01-2020 05:27 AM

Get over it...

As we learned this week from the CDC own numbers, that only 6% of the deaths from Covid involved people that did not have other problems, we've been at the worst totally lied to at the least misinformed about this whole thing...Bring back the squares for the people that want to go and for the others that are waiting for a vaccine or too scared to go to a restaurant...stay at you own comfort level....wear your mask while playing golf..wear you mask while driving alone in your car or cart...stay home watching netflix...as for me..I choose to reopen everything...if you've stopped drinking...good for you...BUT you don't have to drink to to sit and listen to music or to dance.....I prefer to dance and I'm not afraid of my car radio giving me a virus...

maryl 09-01-2020 05:28 AM

I believe the Morses are not going to open the squares they are changing everthing since the father died like building apts

Most if not all medical experts (those with an actual medical degree) will tell you that avoiding large gatherings and practicing social distancing will reduce the spread of the virus and thus the number of cases and ultimately deaths. So you are advocating no precautionary measures which will lengthen the pandemic and death? This is what you want to push on everyone?

Pretty sure that Communism is not the right qualifier here. If over 50% of Americans support the precautionary measures that would be democratic no?

stadry 09-01-2020 05:37 AM

we're still awaiting the vaccine for aids, remember ?

brenda massey 09-01-2020 05:38 AM

I moved here about 6 weeks ago. This is the way I decided to look at the many things that are not happening now. I don't miss what I never had as far as entertainment. I do, however, love living in a place that is like living on a resort anywhere I go. It is beautiful everywhere and the people are all friendly. Anything added in the future is a plus to me. I love living here and will love it even more when everything comes back to normal

Get busy living or get busy dying.

Shawshank redemption.

My girlfriend’s father died of it in Jupiter, Florida, Sunday night. Her mother has survived the virus and is now testing negative, but it has seriously exacerbated her dementia, so when her husband of 66 years died, she said, “Oh, that’s too bad.” No tears.

This doesn’t seem serious or real until you or your loved ones get it. I know a woman whose 22 year old son got it, survived, but now may need a pacemaker due to ventricular fibrillation.

If you get it, you’ll wish you had been more careful, no matter how careful you were.

Now that the CDC has been honest and released the figures that only 6% of the deaths in this country were actually caused purely by Covid, it’s time to get past this paranoia. 94% of the people that died had 2.6 comorbidities to go with it and likely died from those comorbidities, which may or may not have been affected by COVID-19.
I moved to the villages for all the lifestyle had to offer, not to have half of it taken away from me. Open up the squares. If you’re not comfortable going to the squares then stay home. It’s that simple. For the people that are paranoid to say the rest of you have to be punished because of my paranoia is BS. I want all of the lifestyle I paid for!

This is what we did in our parks where I live to maintain social distance while gathering. Maybe that could be implemented in the squares?

Kmorrell 09-01-2020 07:26 AM

Amen!

Donvan 09-01-2020 07:41 AM

They should open. Your chances of caught it Covid out side are very small .

We just read how you look at it.

About 70% of ALL Americans do NOT agree with you. Check out recent VALID polls.

We are keeping busy working on projects around the house and will probably end up being "over decorated", but alive. I am cooking more and enjoying it more. We "Zoom" with our family once a week. Husband still plays golf four days a week. It isn't JUST here. The WORLD is suffering a Pandemic. Daughter and husband who are sent to London by our government are carefully restricted and she says that most there accept it with good grace. We do what we have always done; the best we can and I don't feel like I am not enjoying life. My roses never looked better.

Rsenholzi 09-01-2020 07:54 AM

The Morse. Family is still collecting money from the hotel industry as well as merchants for the entertainment in the squares. They are saving money by not paying the entertainers . Do you really think they are in any hurry to open the squares even though it is an outside venue? Other outside venues have opened such as Ocala Civic Center and the lake view Winery and done it safely so why shouldn’t the villages? Why? Because the money hungry Morse family wants to keep the money in their pockets now that they got a taste for it

chrissy2231 09-01-2020 07:55 AM

Schools opened and already one student had Covid where surrounding students in his area had to be quarantined. People have and always feel omnipotent.

Jokomo 09-01-2020 07:56 AM

That will lead to more death and disease. That pattern has followed every “opening”. There have been thousands and thousands and thousands of unnecessary deaths because people refuse to do two simple things: wear a mask and social distance. Opening the Squares would be sheer madness. To the extent numbers are low in The Villages it’s because more people than not follow this logic and behave accordingly. Everybody wants things to return to normal but it’s a deadly fantasy to want to act normal when the pandemic is still active.
