Good, Crusty Italian Bread

Where is the best good, crusty italian bread to purchase in/near the villages? Best I have found is at Gio's Deli.

Stu from NYC 08-31-2020 06:12 PM

We sure miss it hope you get some good answers.

Napolinos located on 301 has very good, crusty Italian bread. I usually purchase a loaf whenever I'm in the restaurant. Not sure about walking in for just the bread.

I’ve been looking for 7 yrs! Occasionally I will find a loaf, go back again for rebuy and it’s not there. As an Italian from the northeast, finding FL is extremely lacking in products. Oh well. Let me know if u find some!

dnobles 09-02-2020 05:38 AM

Yalaha has excellent bread. Ive never tried Italian

Gio's is good. But we have found that the bread which you finish baking at home is the best for the price. You can find these loaves at Walmart. Bread that is wrapped in plastic loses its crust very quickly and is not worth eating.

Robyn1963 09-02-2020 05:52 AM

Yalaha Bakery. They have such a wide selection and their pastries are excellent too

I’m going to give Gio delis a try great recommendation.

An old standby, Panera bread

edjoe326 09-02-2020 07:16 AM

There are none here . Don't understand why not ! Have had good Italian bread in other places in FL but not here ....Gio's is just ok but not what you are looking for.

I agree. When we were in Ft Lauderdale we had a nice Italian Market nearby (Doris')... Gio's has limited selections but is better than nothing. Mazzaro's Italian Market in St Pete is the place to go...but it's a long drive for a loaf of bread

charlottesweb 09-02-2020 08:07 AM

Aldi’s Specialty italian bread. Loaf comes in a paper bag. Take and bake. I slice it up and put pieces in a freezer bag and pull out what I need. It’s excellent. Makes terrific toast, bruschetta, and garlic Bread 🥖

We go every couple of months Freeze in brown paper bag last pretty good. Better then anything around here. Mazzaro's about a hundred miles each way. Worth the trip

I used to shop at Doris's on Pines......they were the best deli around. Their desert counter was also one of my favorites....They were a true Italian store.

Check out Magnolia Bakery in Ocala. They are on face book and the internet. The advertise crusty Italian Bread. Had their Italian cookies that were very good.

wiltma 09-02-2020 08:53 AM

Fresh Market is pretty good

vonbork 09-02-2020 09:30 AM

Try Sammy's restaurant across from Napolinos. Haven't been there recently because we can't resist the hot bread.

fmartorella 09-02-2020 09:43 AM

Try Napalitonos on 301

Not only crusty Italian bread, but good old "hard rolls" are few and far between here! Used to love tuna on a hard roll and haven't been able to find that here in 10+ years....

I make my own italian bread, it's crusty and delicious and puts all the bread you can buy here to shame. To make the dough takes ten minutes< no kneading but you have to let it rise for about 15 hours. I got the recipe from a book called my bread by Jim Lahey, purchase it you will be very pleased.

Do miss nice crusty hard rolls. Sad that companies wrap bread in plastic bag guaranteeing a very soft and mushy crust.

Try the Italian deli in Inverness. Great crusty sub rolls. You need to call ahead and order them.
Their name and number can be found in the Thursday, restaurant, section of the daily sun.
Good homemade sausage also.

As one New Yorker to another , Publix is the best to NY Italian bread, Publix Call’s it French bread and it has sesame seeds on it

collector0915 09-02-2020 06:21 PM

Sam's Club has decent French baguette bread but you must make sure it is baked fresh that day. They don't bake loaves each day and leave previous day's bread on shelf for full price.
