Comcast/Xfinity pixelation

Has anyone else with Comcast/Xfinity been having problems with pixelation, particularly on ABC? We have also been having problems with ESPN pixelation.

Most of our problems are on ION. Try using CHAT with comcast and make your complaint. We had the cable drop from the post in the back yard go bad. The entire cable had to be replaced. The bad cable showed significant signal loss. After the cable was replaced, all has been well except for ION. NOTE: no cost involved as this was all comcast equipment.

I've had it. It seems to have cleared up lately but was occurring on multiple channels.

On a different problem . I use closed caption on my TV sometim s it slo s down or loses a few words . I have found that pulling the plug for 10 seconds gets it back up again

Bjeanj 09-07-2020 10:08 AM

Oh, good. Sort of. I thought it was our tv.

We have had some major issues with Comcast recently and dealing with them right now is a nightmare. The phone hold times can be hours (one call I was told the wait was FIVE HOURS). Their chat system is a joke. (You don't text/chat with a real person, they just bring up canned responses based on what you type.) Their physical locations are all closed and a technician who was scheduled to come to our house didn't show up. They claim this is all due to COVID.

I can't tell you how much I miss Brighthouse/Spectrum, which we used in Pinellas County.

Yes

I have recently noticed that with Century Link, usually while watching something on You Tube. I don't get it with my computer.

I’ve had the same problem only with ABC. I can’t get anyone that’s alive on the phone

LucyP 09-08-2020 06:51 AM

I have Comcast with Fire stick and have problems freezing or I click on channel and get a picture Only or no sound comes in. New lines put in too. Thinking of change . Who has a fire stick and who do you use with it? I need Internet.

No problems with any on Comcast with the exception of ION which is one of our favorites, no problems with the others.

What you're seeing is satellite interference. To get the local ABC, CBS, NBC stations out of Orlando, cable companies use satellite reception. (Don't laugh.) In local bad weather the signal is deteriorated. First goes the sound, then the video will pixelate and then freeze if the carrier is lost. Their dish makes adjustments to regain the signal .
Not much you can do but complain. But it's useless because...
No system of TV reception is perfect, even rooftop antennas can have problems.

I have Spectrum but have similar problems. It always seems to be the same channels that pixilate. For me it's FYI, DIY, Discovery Family, and Destination America that this happens regularly and just on one of the DVRs. I found that unplugging for at least 5 minutes and then rebooting the DVR/cable box helps for a while. Lately, I have been having to do that every week or so. You could also ask them to send a refresh signal. I think this can be done on line through their website since getting through by phone is impossible. The other possibility is the box could be going bad, in which case you'd have to take it to the Comcast office to swap it out for a new one. Hope this helped a bit. Good luck!

worried about Close Caption that I was going out to buy new TV or switch cable companies, sometimes it’s jus a matter of pulling plug as my sister used to say

Charlie1126, we had a lightning hit in our area and it fried the cable from the outside box to the house and took out the Modem also. We were having the pixelation problem before the damage happened and the Modem was replaced. The repair of both items fixed everything. Call Xfinity in the evening and you will get through quicker. During the day it's not good at all.

DISH & DirecTV pixelate when we get heavy rain.

I've had both satellite providers and CenturyLink - and when my contract is over this time I have no idea what I'll do after seeing these remarks about Comcast/Xfinity.... It's true about the wait times with Xfinity. My son opted for it when he moved here in JUL and both he and I (on his behalf while he was working) spent VERY LONG WAITS on the phone about 3 or 4 times trying to correct things or get information. I wish someone would surprise us all and tell us what OTHER alternative there is to obtain Internet and phone service without one of these providers.

Lianne: We have had no issues with our internet access. We pay for what I think is the fastest residential service (300 bps) because of my husband's work and it is great. My recent painful interactions with them had to do with ordering the MLB (baseball) package. Spent hours on the phone with multiple support people and could not get it to work. We have Tivo devices rather than Comcast-owned equipment and have never had this kind of problem before when ordering sports packages. My complaints involve contacting the company for support. Their internet service can't be beat, IMO, once it is up and running. Good luck.

Call in on the I'm going to cancel line. They answer those calls first. Be strong and firm and play like you're going down the road unless they help you. You will get their attention. It usually works with getting some action quickly.

Comcast gets their signal over the air for local broadcast stations. In bad weather, or if the station is doing maintenance (WKMG) or having equipment issues (WUCF), the signal Comcast receives is degraded, so the signal they send you is degraded. Garbage in-garbage out. If you have issues too often notify Comcast. The drop to your house might have gone bad.
