Senators Introduce Bill to Safely Bring Back Cruising in US

Two United States senators introduced a new act establishing a task force to address the changes needed to allow cruise lines to resume operations.

According to an official statement, Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio introduced the Set Sail Safely Act on Wednesday in coordination with a Private Sector Advisory Committee to establish a Maritime Task Force.

If they can figure out how to do it without having to social distance or wear a mask that would be awesome.

They must have in mind this task force and following legislation will all come to pass in times shorter than typical for government cycle times.

Noble and needed intent.

Will be interesting to see if the response meets the needs/timing of the industry and the market.

Cruising is scheduled to start in Florida ports November 2...... I can't wait....

Cruising and social distancing just do not go hand in hand.

We have no desire to cruise for at least maybe till 2022, enough to see in the USA

Oh! Is taking a cruise on a cruise ship called cruising? That didn’t even occur to me when I saw the title of your post. I thought of “cruising for burgers” and “cruising down the boulevard, looking for the Heart of Saturday Night” (Tom Waits) or “just cruising with your pals, looking for chicks.” If you are a gay guy, “cruising” has quite a different meaning! (Laughing)

As for cruise ships, I’ve just retired from a long career at a state university with 9,000 students. The school has gone to great lengths to test students for the virus, separates seats, requires masks, staggers class days. Still, between August 24 and September 17, 289 students and staff have tested positive. (I guess the staff are more careful—only three so far have contracted the disease, one a teacher.) this comes from too much partying close together off campus. So what happens on cruise ships? I would only fly right now in an emergency. I’ve canceled my yearly Thanksgiving week at a small, exclusive resort. No way I would go on a cruise ship these days.

They already have in the Med.

Rapid test everyone if you test positive you don’t go.

No free roaming in port you must get off with a ships tour and stay with the group. They only take you to places where the people have tested negative. If you leave the group you don’t get back on.

They are sailing at 70% capacity no inside cabins.

Already booked for a cruise in January. The cruise lines have never been "at fault" when it comes to the spread of diseases on-board. The same age old rule is the answer: IF YOU'RE SICK, STAY THE HELL HOME!

No cruising for me. Hard to imagine people trusting that method of vacationing now.

We love cruises and have been on quite a few but My wife has an underlying condition and we wouldn't feel safe just yet. However, if people that do not have underlying conditions feel comfortable with it, I say go for it. We can't stay shut down forever over a virus that, realistically, has had less impact percentage wise than many other viruses. However, just like with the flu, we need to be cautious, wear masks and do everything to protect ourselves until they get a vaccine out there. Bon Voyage!

We’ve cruised hundreds of days all over the world on mass market, river, and luxury cruise lines. Much as we love cruising and realize the cruising industry is hurting, don’t count on us at this time....

I am aware of that.

Get on with negative test results and what if a few days later virus comes out and positive. Or go out on a tour and catch it.

We enjoy walking around European towns enjoying their history. Very often do a tour with a local and find it very enjoyable. Not going to happen for some time.

Than we have the one way plane ride if doing a TA.

We have a TA to Europe booked for April with a following one around the Med and have fingers crossed we will be able to go but thinking at this point 50-50.

You don't understand the situation! Many who carry the deadly virus, DON'T FEEL SICK and don't know they are spreading it. "Do you feel sick today, sir?" Is not the way you board passengers onto the cruise ships. The only safe way is to test every passenger, EVERY DAY and kick off any that test positive. (And you know that's not going to happen.)

Even before Covid-19 we would observe friends returning from cruises with diarrhea and vomiting. They to me are Petri dishes.

Plus I don't like gambling.

Plus it's a lot of going through waters and seeing not very wonderful entertainment except for the drunks.

Plus even the biggest state rooms are not as big spaces to be beautiful to me.

It has been a huge industry for Florida and it will hurt our economy but it will take years to revive if ever. That in itself is very sad and troublesome. I can see why the Florida Pol's support the renewal of the cruise business.

I realize I am in the distinct minority. Everyone loves to go on Cruises. Not me.

everything's still up in the air for us travel-wise

we are booked on a European river boat cruise next May....still holding off on whether we 'pull the plug' on that, we haven't made any flight or hotel arrangements yet. Decision time will be when they want more money down

We're beginning to think that our 2021 (and maybe even 2022) travel we be limited to the good 'ole USA...lot's of places that we haven't seen yet

I keep hearing Dina Shore singing "See the USA in a Chevrolet...." in my head

They thought the Norovirus was difficult to control on a cruise ship wait till Covid is introduce...

Cruises! Before the virus they were floating Petri dishes full of people over eating and overwhelming ports who are having harder time because of the massive size ships are becoming and polluting those very same beautiful harbors people want to see ( example Venice) . I’ll still travel and stay there in hotels and actually see the place I’m in

I was on a Celebrity Cruise Line webinar yesterday. They are sending a list of safety precautions to the CDC they feel would make cruising safe. The CDC will get back to them in 30 to 60 Days with the go ahead for sailing or more changes that need to be make

we only cruise on the Windstar ships....150 - 300 passengers

even so, we have no interest in sailing or river cruising for a couple of years out now
