Still haven't received any info on new trash procedures.

I read that there was going to be information about the new system left at our homes but we haven't received a thing. Have others not received the information? Getting a little late. Is there a website for us to check out?

REDCART 09-29-2020 08:30 AM

We received a new trash procedure brochure as an insert with our last monthly RAD statement.

Carla B 09-29-2020 08:30 AM

The circular explaining the new trash procedure and schedule was in the latest bill from No. Sumter Utility District. I think that 2PlaneKid also included the circular in one of his recent posts.

Stu from NYC 09-29-2020 08:45 AM

Still Tuesday and Friday in our area and no more recycling.

Ecuadog 09-29-2020 08:46 AM

It begins October 1, 2020 - click here for info.

vintageogauge 09-29-2020 09:00 AM

It was in the Daily Sun the other day.

Any color bag is acceptable. Small bags are not acceptable such a a small waste basket size.
You can mix everything together.......trash, yard waste and anything that used to be recycled.
Two pick ups per week, usually on the same days as trash pick up has been.

Any color bag except red. Put it all in there, no separation required. It will all be burned.

billethkid 09-29-2020 11:45 AM

New direction includes no special day for yard waste!!

Very true. Fogot about not using red bags. Red bags are for bio hazardous or medical waste.

And here I am with a lifetime supply of red bags...😂

I’ve found the best place to buy suitable trash bags is at Rural King. My last purchase was a box of 40 33 gallon 1.5 mil bags with twist tie for $5.99. They also have a box of 50 30 gallon 1.5 mil with twist tie for the same price.

No More Recycling

Just got off the phone with Sumter San. They said recycling was now to be mixed with regular trash no need for separate clear bags. :a040:

Unless you have a large inventory of separate clear bags :)

The brochure says that any color bag is acceptable...

The brochure doesn't give a start date. I've heard Oct 1, and I've heard Oct 3...

Did you ever try to put yard waste in a plastic bag. Bags are smaller and will not stand up to sticks and branches. If I am missing something relating to plastic bags, be nice and let me know

Good point. The guidelines don't mention the word "plastic," so maybe they won't mind picking up a brown paper bag. Or you could wrap the sharp sticks in newspaper like they say to do with glass, and tie the bundle. A good use for "The Daily Sun."

Kahuna32162 09-29-2020 03:31 PM

So, now we will have to pay for a bulk pickup request. $10 per pickup.

You will LOVE this one. I too felt as you do, WHEN am I going to find out the details ? Well, yesterday I DID ! In my utility bill for North Sumter, I got a pamphlet, white with green print. Title: Curbside Residential Sanitation Collection Information.

It contained some much needed details, I'll hand that to them. It reminded people that there will now be a $10 charge for the bulk, or oversized, pickups we used to just call for at no charge. It listed all things that will no longer be picked up at all: medical waste, paint, needles, etc. etc. And, it listed every area of the villages and the new pick up DAYS for each village. For instance, my days have changed from Tu. and Fri. to Mon. & Th., however, the one thing not mentioned anywhere is a DATE.

It simply said to call 352-748-0109 for that information, or any other details, for Marion, Sumter, and The Villages of Fruitland Park. It also gives instructions on how to get information if you live the Town of Ladylake part of the Villages (Lake County) and asks that you call (352) 787-4416.

Again Nothing in the brochure concerning date, only gives phone numbers if you want that information.

For Lake County villagers who are NOT within the Town of Ladylake portion, it gave this number:
(352) 343-3776

I would think they are planning to begin this sometime in Oct., or perhaps, maybe it will just begin for the new year on Jan. 1, 2021 maybe ?

Yeah once or twice in 68 years. And yes, plastic bags suck for sticks. You don’t have to bag this, they will pick them up as is. Tie them into a bundle to make is easier for the workers.

The 2 pages of info. that has been out for some time and is linked in this thread a few times says nothing about using plastic for yard waste. You can read it if you have more questions. Here is some of what it says:

"Tree limbs or branches may not exceed 4’ in length, 4”
in diameter, or exceed 40 pounds. Bundle and tie such
materials and place them at the end of your driveway.
Lawn clippings and similar yard waste should be placed
in bags. " :ho:

Around my neighborhood we were all wondering when it will begin. We did get notified in the mail of all the details, how our days were changing, but no mention anywhere when we were supposed to start changing to our new days is all ! ? Seems every county and even two different portions of Lake county, all different rules, days, numbers to call, and none of the mailing have any dates ?

ficoguy 09-29-2020 05:09 PM

Lazy people have been mixing it for years. My neighbors never put out anything but black trash bags that include dog and cat poop

On the last Costco run to Winter Park I bought enough paper yard waste bags for a YEAR. Are those all useless now ? Or, can I still use them for yard waste and put out with all the rest ? Probably not ! Suppose now I have a year's supply of what ? Help, suggestions ? Plant covers in case we get some cold nights this year ? That would use of a half dozen or so I guess. Oh, maybe as LINERS for inside the big black plastic bags so the sticks do not go through the plastic as easily ?

Did you go to that site ? I was happy you posted it, like many others I had no idea where to find the information (and, not bragging....LOL... but I do have neighbors that make me look like a tech genius, I have neighbors who have no idea how to look up such things on the internet (and yes, I have invited them to computer club when we used to have that here). Anyway, the information on the site you provided was nothing different than it has been for our neighborhood for years now. Same days as always, has all the same info on recycling, how to separate, when to set it out, so not a lot of help..... the brochure with no dates for the changes, at least gives the new DAYS, and it seems the old rule NO GARBAGE can be set out before 9 p.m. (which it says on the website of the Villages government) in the "new" rules is listed as NOT before 6 p.m. So looks like it still can not be put out until it is dark outside, but 6 is much more reasonable !

But not all subscribe to that. I did subscribe many years ago when I first moved here, but shortly after getting settled was able to subscribe to another paper which seemed a little bit more like a real paper (and now that has changed too, LOL !) But most recently I have noticed that on my block, where once I never saw a drive without a paper on it in the mornings, I now see only two houses with papers ! Newspapers definitely have little to offer anymore except maybe Coffee/Paper routine of us retirees ? The "Sun" seems to have even less than the others in the area. I have Comcast TV so maybe the Ch. 2 villages Channel will have some actual DATES of all the changes ? Also, does anyone think there will be polo this year ? Not sure if the virus is allowed at polo games, or if that would be a "safe" event to watch ?

"The "Sun" seems to have even less" - It had the new trash schedule.

"does anyone think there will be polo this year" - They are playing. Watch Polo at The Villages Polo Club

You can use bags of any material or color you want.

Except red. Reserved for medical waste.

Kgcetm 09-30-2020 06:06 AM

It is in your water bill. You have to read it.

HJBeck 09-30-2020 06:09 AM

I called them up and they said no sorting required any longer. This means everything can go into one bag type (recycled and regular trash as well as yard waste). They will pick up on the same two days as usual but take all kinds of trash on both days, no need to put them in different bags. Sad to see the change but that’s what it is.

cathell62 09-30-2020 06:18 AM

New recycling

Where have you been not to have heard? There's been articles in the paper, notice in your bill, people talking. There is an over abundance of info that has been out for a while. Even better, go to the Covanta.com website and see what a good thing this is.
