This is something you should discuss with your own doctor. There are some side effects and some doctors have differing views.

I have decided not to take it.

LynnWM158 09-30-2020 04:38 PM

I have been on it for 2 years. No side effects, and my bone density improved on my last scan. I am due for another scan in 2 months so I hope it has improved significantly

I've had 2 shots, did fine, no side effects. Haven't had a follow up bone density yet-next appointment is soon. Also was advised to increase dairy to 3 servings per day. I do a yoga routine for osteoporosis-google "12 minutes of Yoga for Bone Health" from the New York Times-there are also youtube videos of the routine, its easy. Best wishes.

This is something I have to make a decision on, not my DR. MY BONES are so bad and hearing other womens experiences will help me make a decision. I injected myself for 2cyrs with Forteo, went to gym everyday and no improvement. very disappointed

JC419 09-30-2020 09:01 PM

Had my first shot back in May and so far no side effects. The doctor explained about possible side effects - mainly with teeth. He also called my dentist to advise him that I was getting Prolia shots. I do see dentist/hygienist every 4 months anyway.

Hoping the shots work. Good luck to you!

I have been on it for 5 years. My density has improved by quite a bit however now information has come out that you cannot stop taking it! Ever! If you stop the injections every 6 months the risk of “Fracture Risk Rebound” and multiple compression spinal fractures due to rapid bone turnover is very high just shortly after you stop! You must make sure you get it every 6 months on schedule. It costs 1800.00 for each injection and due to my deductible I end up paying that amount each year until my deductible is met.
Had I known this latest research about the rebound bone turn over and compression fractures I would have never started taking it. Please research it and make an informed decision. I want to stop but cannot due to the latest research.
I hope they eventually figure out a safe way to get off of it!

I am on prolia for my bones. I had no side effects.

My bone density was improved.

I have been on it for over 2 years. My bones were so bad that I had a double fracture in my arm just from adjusting a pillow my head was on. For the first time in over 10 years my bone density did not get worse and actually improved a little in a couple of places. No side effects at all. I am grateful for Prolia and would not choose to stop the shots.

Gmaf6 10-01-2020 05:26 AM

I had 4 shots over 2 years. My bone density improved but have had awful issues with my teeth....lost 3, with extended bridges. I stopped the shots and my bone density is still good and no teeth issues.

rlcooper70 10-01-2020 06:15 AM

This may not be the format to get medical advice .... there are many serious side effects that you should be aware of and you should look at the information provided by sites like the Mayo and the Cleveland Clinics.

Jake2020 10-01-2020 06:37 AM

I’ve had 4 shots. No side effects. And, I’ve had an increase in bone density. I highly recommend the shot.

Mike Shebel 10-01-2020 07:13 AM

My wife was on it, when it first came on the market. She had terrible side affects in her hip joints. Stopped taking after 2 years.

Gyne Doctor recommenced Algae Cal, no script. Bone Density much, much better....no side affects..

Heartnsoul 10-01-2020 07:52 AM

What is algae cal?? A pill. Over the counter?

LG999 10-01-2020 08:15 AM

I got rid of my osteoporosis completely by:
1 Weight bearing exercise
2 combo pill of calcium, magnesium zinc
3 GNC triflex
4 adding dairy
5 I have always walked a lot

Vickim 10-01-2020 08:49 AM

Can I ask what brand she uses and where she purchases it from
Thank you

AlgaeCal Plus and Strontium Boost

I was told to take Prolia but after looking at all of the side effects online, I decided not to take it. I found the AlgaeCal website and liked what they had to say. Plus, I saw a little segment they had of Dr. Oz recommending it. I have been taking it for 1 month and am very happy to hear that it helped bone density from someone who has been taking it.

Even if you are not interested in our program, please allow me to explain how the drugs work verses this natural alternative.

Per the Prolia site, some side effects are low blood calcium, skin infections, rash, osteonecrosis of the jaw, fracture of the thighbone.

Are making a medical claim for treatment of osteoporosis at your gym?
Quote:

OsteoStrongs average member receives 7%-14% increase of bone density each year
Do you even know that an average cannot be 7 - 14%? An average is a number not a range. You are promising that the lowest yearly improvement is 7% each and every year going forward as 7% is the low end of your promised range. So in 2 years I will have at least 14 % improvement in what? My hip, my spine, my worst area or my best area on a Dexa scan? Can you please post the published study to support your claim or do you not actually understand the science of osteoporosis? You do have extensive training in medicine or pharmacy don't you?

Even your suggested website which you refer to as "Our website" is a phony with a big Not secure warning on my laptop and is nothing but a suggestion of related searches which lead to other broken links. So useless weblink, terrible math, unsupported medical claims. The little phrase "Member Dexa scans" tells me everything I need to know. You're selling a fancy gym membership.

Can I own an Osteostrong gym? Do I need to know anything about medicine to own a franchise of a company that claims to treat a real problem with once a week short exercise session?
Quote:

No, you do not need to have experience in the medical or health industry to be considered. We look for franchisees that have solid business management skills and a commitment to excellent customer service.
So this is a sales skills required position, not a know at least something about osteoporosis before you open a business to treat that disease position. Good to know. I think I'll save time for "learning how drugs work" to my conversations with someone with advanced training in medicine or pharmacy. Not a gym owner.

Wish I could say the same. I'm a gym rat, eat dairy, do all things right and still have it. Sometimes just heredity since mom had it badly

Yes, I've been taking prolia for two years and moved my bone density from osteoporosis to osteopenia. My doctor is old school and believes that prolia is making the difference, so I will continue. You need a shot every 6 months and want to stay on this course for its proper use.

LianneMigiano 10-01-2020 12:35 PM

Switched

I was on Prolia for 2 years without any side effects (other than the co-pay amount to my wallet- ouch!) I was switched several years ago to some kind of yearly infusion with a greatly reduced co-pay - and no side effects from it either.

I took it for two years and there was absolutely no difference (improvement) at all.

You may want to read this article and maybe do additional research.

prolia shot

I have had 3 shots of prolia 6 months apart. My bone density showed that I was not losing any more bone, but did not improve at this point from the shots. No side affects except for dental.
A tooth in the front broke off at the gum line. I needed surgery to cut the gum in order to remove what was left of the tooth. When you are on prolia, it is a big deal with dental.
My dentist and the dental surgeon conferred that as long as it was less then 5 years, I could have the tooth removed and get an implant. They explained that just having a tooth removed when you are on prolia for a long time could lead to the bone never healing from where the tooth was removed. Implants take a long time as they usually do.
I don't know when or if I will go back on prolia. I have about a year to decide what to do. I don't know if this helped you, but just watch how your teeth are doing.

DaveK 10-01-2020 08:03 PM

My wife has been on it for about two years. Her bone density has increased approx. 1%. She has had no adverse side effects, not even a red spot where the injection was made. She will continue. BTW, she is 84 years of age.

SusanKD 10-01-2020 10:10 PM

I’m confused as to why you have to pay? I have had two shots so far. No cost to me The oral medication it hard for your body to Absorb. So my doc recommended the shots good results low side effects.

Best answer yet. You do NOT know what side effects (unnoticed) are taking place in your body by pharmaceuticals. Just listening to the "small print" of any TV commercial for various drugs the pushers are advertising should scare anyone. Some of the fine print you listen to after the single benefit touted in a commercial includes:

Swelling of legs, hands and feet; capillary leak syndrome; fever; muscle pain; unusual bruising; dizziness, blurry vision; rash; hives; blisters; nervous system and blood disorders; lymphoma; swollen tongue; dry mouth; weight gain; inability to fight infections; nausea, diarrhea; constipation; depression; dehydration; suicidal thoughts.

Oh, and death. These are just some of the side effects mentioned in television advertisements for prescription drugs.

As a retired Women's Health nurse I am afraid to take any of the prescription bone loss medications. The AlgaeCal looks interesting and I may check it out. I can't stress the importance of exercise along with any medications or supplements to help the ol' bones!

I have been on it for 2 years and at first I had joint pain that I had never had before. After this last dose, I got a rash on my arm, the 3 doctors I have seen have different opinions, derm says it is contact but it is only on my R arm. I still think it may be related. I am having a bone scan soon, so I will know if it has worked.

I have taken L’Arginine powder for over 20 years!! It is an amino acid we are born with and lose as we age. It is amazing!! It promotes bone growth and more! After a bone density test the dictor was amazed!! At age &0 I have the bones of a teenager!! I buy it on line at Deansons . I take the recommended dosage of 3 teaspoons a day ( 6. Po size gel caps). I call Dwansons and order a 1 lb bottle of powder for around $ 28 and it lasts about 2 momtjs. It is not a drug and has wonderful abilities!! It not only promotes bone growth but also shrinks tumors, boosts the immune system, makes your skin smoother, gives you amazing energy and is amazingly fast post surgery healer! ! My hair shines and grows quickly and my fingernails are hard as rocks . It is amazing stuff!! I’m 80 but look 55 or 69, I am told. Recently there had been a run on it due to the virus, so Swansons was out. I found it at Amazon. I never want to be without it!!!

Smith811 10-02-2020 09:08 PM

Dental issues.

Only take if you really have too. I had to have dental work done and it took almost 15 months to get it out of my system and get good reading on my blood work.
Thank goodness it didn’t involve my front teeth.
I will never take again.

2Jays 10-02-2020 11:24 PM

Yes I have been on Prolia for several years. It has been very effective for me without any side effects (and I am sensitive to medications). If your doctor recommends it, I urge you to take it. Your bones will thank you.

Mfrench 10-03-2020 08:31 AM

Strong bones with L’Arginine!!

I have taken L’Arginine powder made by NOW products for 20 years. I am now 80 with bones like a teenagers!! It’s an amino acid that we are born with but lose as we age. It’s cheap and works like a dream! I have never had a bad side effect. Only good ones!! My energy is fantastic ( I play tennis 2-3 times a week and golf once a week), my skin is smoother, my hair grows fast and is extremely shiny, my nails are hard as a rock! I learned about L’Arginine when I read an article written by a surgeon at John Hopkins Hospital about the rapid post surgery healing powers of L’Arginine . At the end of the article he stated it could also shrink tumors!! Since I had just been diagnosed with breast cancer I decided to try a serum of L’Arginine, not available in the US. It actually shrank my tumor, which baffled the surgeon! Then and there I decided to take L’Arginine powder for the rest of my life!! I urge everyone to give it a try. Your energy will skyrocket as your immune system grows stronger, but be prepared to cut your hair more often!🤪

Heartnsoul 10-12-2020 06:07 PM

Spoke to Dr today. Asked if it would be ok if I tried algaecal with bone builders 3 x a week. He said no pills and weights will help me. I need prolia. So scary as I would rather try natural meds 1st BUT my spine is 4:1 very bad. Anyone else know their numbers before u were put on prolia?
