The Daily Sun

Absent from the Daily Sun yesterday and today are statistics related to Covid 19. Does this mean that the official Villages opinion is that the Global Pandemic is over? No longer necessary to report on the 2000+ new cases in Florida, the number of new cases and deaths in The Villages which would not be supportive of reopening of Town Squares, Rec Centers etc.

Stu from NYC 10-06-2020 07:07 AM

Noticed that also and surprised and disappointed they seem to have stopped it.

Mortal1 10-06-2020 07:46 AM

Aww come on folks. Have you not been following how other cities/countries have been handling the china flu?

Also that newspaper isn't owned by the villages. If you don't feel comfortable then don't go. Stay in...worry...overreact...

Thanks I missed it. Glad to see it is down so much heading in right direction.

I believe the paper is owned by the developer

vintageogauge 10-06-2020 01:34 PM

Let's see what happens after spring break this coming year.

BryanTheGolfPro 10-07-2020 04:46 AM

It's in the paper--just not on its front page. Saw it today.

The day-in-day-out statistics updates only propagate fear and loathing. Have we ever seen daily flu or other disease stats now or in the past? CNN constantly reports these stats daily on their screen. For what purpose? I'll opine that it's all about keeping us fretful, scared and to some extent to impose satiable power over the masses. It's nonsense. Enough is enough. Just take precautions, and get on with your darn lives. :boxing2:

diane reynolds 10-07-2020 05:22 AM

Until you get covid; then we shall see what your reaction is. Hopefully a mild case not like my neighbor on a ventilator for 2 months.

Its a local small paper that hardly ever says anything of substance so why the surprise? People here think they live in a Utopia and the paper reflects that and always has. Besides the fact it was in yesterdays and todays papers, just not slammed on the front page. We all know the virus is here, know how to protect outselves so do we actually need daily numbers?? If nervous, stay home. Otherwise, go out and live life. There is no conspiracy so that the squares can open.

I think it is useful and helpful to know how we are doing fighting this disease

Totally agree. If anyone doesn’t want to know, they don’t have to read it. I’d rather have the knowledge

My reaction is, and will be, my possibly catching COVID has nothing to do with following daily stats. Your statement translates to "Oh, if I had only followed the daily stats and bit my nails to the quick over it, I wouldn't have gotten infected". See the nonsense? I'll take precautions and if I happen to get it, I'll follow my doctors orders.

Why, and for what earthly purpose, do you think daily data is useful and helpful to you?

matandch 10-07-2020 06:18 AM

Fear motivates. Keeps me from becoming too complacent and letting my guard down. But that’s just me.

Would daily auto accident stats remind you to drive more safely? Do food commercials remind you to eat? Do the endless drug commercials remind you to take your pills? Geez...so you have no personal will power? Come on...fear motivates is a sign of weakness.

riamd1954 10-07-2020 06:41 AM

I think you are a very negative person !!

Marine1974 10-07-2020 07:07 AM

Exactly , most people who scoff at
Covid 19 are just looking for attention . Pay no attention to
them . Their risky behavior will
catch up to them , I assure you of that .

Villages Kahuna 10-07-2020 07:17 AM

I keep telling myself to cancel my subscription to The Daily Fun. Other than the schedule of local activities, it’s nothing more than a voice for the Developer with a few columnists who are far to one side politically, not worth reading. You don’t get much for a hundred bucks a year...and you have to lug all those piles of paper to the trash.

This is unreasonably harsh. Protecting ourselves from Covid is new and unusual. It's not remembering to eat. It's not remembering to take our medication. Reminders to remain disciplined in our efforts to protect ourselves and others is completely reasonable, and perhaps even needed.

Jpressley 10-07-2020 07:25 AM

Ventilator for 2 months not a light case. Hope they are doing well.

Well a month ago the daily new rate was about 10,000 cases a day.

Lately it is about 2500.

Now do you understand?

Ralpha 10-07-2020 07:39 AM

I dropped the paper because of its political views. I would never have dropped it had it been a bipartisan paper.

La lamy 10-07-2020 07:57 AM

Knowing the numbers of Covid cases locally matters to me. Yes I'll still take precautions no matter what it is, but it's similar to knowing the number of a Hurricane. A number 1 is bad but a 5 makes you VERY weary.

Joe C. 10-07-2020 08:06 AM

I don't read anything related to Covid.....I'm sick and tired of all the misinformation and garbage being in the news. And I don't read the ads on my laptop or any ads in the newspaper. I must be getting old and miserable. Although my grand daughter just says that I'm silly.

What I understand is as the numbers go up, I suspect more people around me can possibly infect me, no matter what protections I take when I have to go out. We'll see in 2-3 weeks if the infection rate in TVs goes up, remains about the same or goes down. I believe the Las Vegas betting gurus wouldn't touch this line with a 6 foot pole.

Waltdisney4life 10-07-2020 08:22 AM

It reminds me of the daily kill numbers that were posted on the evening news on TV during the Vietnam war every day!

mk3214 10-07-2020 08:33 AM

If you actually read the paper you will see it!!!!

kappy 10-07-2020 08:42 AM

It is still in the paper. It was moved from the front page to the State News page.

mlmarr1 10-07-2020 08:49 AM

Just stay home..your life is yours..my life is mine..oh yes I have worked the past 10 months..medical office never stopped ..

pmken2 10-07-2020 09:14 AM

It's there. They moved it to the State News page and it is usually in green on the right hand side.

I agree pushing it in your face every day serves no purpose. It only raises concern and anxiety, wear a mask and Social distance and keep safe.

Very strange paper.

No editorial page. The columnists are mostly conservative but news article mostly come from AP and they are very liberal.

As a result no idea what the actual political view of the paper is.

Perhaps if it had a living breathing editor we could figure it out.

And I will opine that the flu doesn’t kill a likely 250 thousand humans. Sure you should get an with life but under a new normal until this is under control, which it is not. Cases and deaths are not decreasing in spite of words from Washington, Tallahassee or The Villages.
