Grouper

Since the new Chef at Belle Glade decided to remove grouper from the menu, does anyone know a restaurant that still serves it? I'm talking grilled or sauteed , not fried.

JSR22 10-15-2020 03:43 PM

Wolfgang Puck in Brownwood and it is delicious.

Agree with Wolfgang Puck's

Last week there was a post regarding the grouper "special" at Chop House, came with shrimp and scallops. The poster was put off since it cost $43 and he was not told the price. He assumed "special" meant special price, like a BOGO:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:.

CWGUY 10-15-2020 04:45 PM

:icon_wink: I'll bet we have posters who think "surf and turf" is a "filet o fish and a big mac" :icon_hungry:

alwann 10-15-2020 05:45 PM

Where da Grouper at?

When I started coming to Central Florida 15 years ago, you could get Grouper at virtually any restaurant on the street. Then the govt. said it was over-fished. And now it's available some places at premium prices. What's the story here?

JSR22 10-15-2020 06:38 PM

Grouper

Grouper was available at ChopHouse tonight. I think it was $34

Try Legends. Grouper over a fennel and corn risotto. Delicious and reasonably priced!

I had the grouper at Wolfgang Pucks. DELICIOUS:clap2:

Excellent fresh grouper At the Lighthouse seafood store (not the restaurant) on 466 just east of Morse Blvd. for $24 per pound. We cook it in a cast iron pan in our Webber grill, to die for.

Why would they discontinue grouper? Next to haddock and salmon, it's probably one of the most popular alternative fish.

Aloha way 10-16-2020 08:18 AM

You can get grouper, snapper, mahi mahi all available at lighthouse fish market on 466. That’s if you want to cook at home.

I would say they couldn’t sell enough because of the price, but they’re other fish that’s just as good & cheaper. But that’s just an opinion!

And the lady there will tell you how she pan sautées it. Their fish is soooooo fresh. It never has that watery, I've-been-sitting-in-the-freezer.

Made Chilean Sea Bass for our son last week. He was slicing off raw slivers of it sushi-style before I could get it in the pan.

gailhfarr 10-16-2020 09:35 AM

Grouper

Cook it yourself. Seafood trailer at Brownwood Market on Saturday sells it fresh

I was at the market last Saturday and the seafood vendor was there.

Grouper is in season now and available at every restaurant that serves fresh fish. But not necessarily at the restaurants that get their food from food companies like Sysco etc.

Roberto’s Ristorante located in Pinellas plaza has a grouper dish called Grouper Italiano. Grouper is sautéed in olive oil , fresh garlic and cherry tomatoes and with mussels and clams over linguini with a white wine sauce.

Delicious!! And only $18 !!

graciegirl 10-16-2020 10:40 AM

Every time I share a recipe on this forum, I wait to be ridiculed.

However. This is one that is easy and delicious. And yes, many of us have grown up cooking frozen fish that was not available close to our homes.

Frozen, unbreaded, naked Cod from Publix.

Melt 3-4 tablespoons of butter on cookie sheet. Place Frozen Cod that has been slathered with Hellmann's mayonnaise and coated with a mixture of flavored Panko crumbs and parmesan cheese on top of melted butter. Bake for 45 minutes at 350.

It is yummy.

Waiting to be criticized. I KNOW it's Cod and not Flounder. Midwesterners also love Salmon Patties from a can.

Recipe; Drain red salmon from can and smoosh all bones. (leave them in...rich source of calcium) Add beaten egg, finely diced onion, half a sleeve of smooshed Ritz crackers. Mix all together with your clean hands and let it sit for an hour or so in the Fridge. I form into three patties.

Fry in butter and oil until brown and yummy and eat with catsup. Yes...or ketchup.

At Bonefish Wednesday night this week, they had Grouper on the special menu. All good at Bonefish.

Steve Mosher 10-16-2020 12:57 PM

Grouper

Bluefin in Brownwood and Bonefish on route 441.

Rhonda West 10-16-2020 01:19 PM

Grouper

Grouper at Carrabba's on 27/441 is excellent as is the Grouper at Giovanni's on 466a near The Villages High School. Neither is fried.

bpascani 10-16-2020 02:30 PM

I think they are talking about either the restaurant at Nancy Lopez or Arnold Palmer
