The Villages Phobia??
 

Do any of you suffer from this, even a little bit? I do just a little. But I've learned to manage it to a comfortable level. :) What is it?

When I first moved here and started making some friends, we often talked about how much there is to do in TV. And of course how we only did a relatively small number of things compared to how much is available. Why weren't we doing more! :shocked: Well, I and one of my very best friends in TV (God rest his wonderful, funny soul) gave that worrisome nagging feeling a name...The Villages Phobia. :laugh:

So if there are more of you out there, maybe we should start a club. Wouldn't that be perfect?!? We could call it the "We Should Do More" club. Or possibly just "The Village Idiots?!? :1rotfl:

Interesting

I have a number of things to do once we feel more comfortable being around others and clubs reopen for activities.

First. I would like to remember that friend who left us way too soon. He and I would differ and spar and debate over politics but he would drop by our house often bearing a little gift and we would sit and have the most wonderful conversations. He humbly never mentioned volunteering once a week at the local soup kitchen. I will take this post of yours to think he is reminding me that I could do better. Thank you Polar Bear. Please name him.

There already is a Villages Idiots club.

Mainly due to your reference to sparring and debating over politics, I would bet at least a nickel you’re referring to Richard. :) We were political opposites and best of friends. That is not usually likely, but with Richard it was easy.

I still think about and miss him a lot.

Did everything, every new thing I had never tired, then..... "something" happened, real life I guess. We had travel plans, new grand children, friends in other areas of Florida, on and on. Eventually, sort of "settled" on a few priorities like golf at least 9 holes 5 of every 7 days, take a 30 min. swim everyday if possible, so.... add up the time and found one or two activities like ceramics and yoga, and a club or two that meets once a month.... and started craving just the "old life" of having nothing on the schedule but reading a book or watching TV.....LOL ! I would guess many other have gone this route also !

That is exactly who I was thinking of, Polar Bear. A good and kind man.

I too have a special friend, even tho we are as far as can be politically as possible. Even when we totally disagree. However the next day we are best buddies again. Calling to see if the other needs something. Sadly most can’t do that. Even families go different directions because of pride. Folks, isn’t it time to grow up! A great friend is hard to find. Don’t major on the minor and minor on the majors! Life is too short

Pretty good summary in general terms of our development in TV also. :)

As long as I get a few hours of pickleball in the morning, the rest is....

PB and GG, you two are so right!! It’s so easy to carry on a relationship with people, no matter the difference in political or religious beliefs. The key is to keep the focus on the issue and not make it personal. I find most people want to go directly to name calling and putting themselves and their beliefs in the one-up position when in disagreement about social and political issues. You both seem to have a value for respect, which is the thing that is missing in interactions today. PB, I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. I pray you rejoice in the beautiful moments you both shared.

I definitely feel there is much more to do, but I already have a full plate (normally). Please don't call yourselves "The Village Idiots" - there are specific people living in TV that have already EARNED that title!

No, I don’t have it. Moved here to slow down, live simply and enjoy my friendships, not busy myself with too many activities. Imo Its nice to keep activities to a minimum and stay relaxed. Love knowing there are so many options if I decide to switch to another.

That's funny because I grew up in Somerset Mass in a section called the Villages (the wasn't capitalized). We were called the Village idiots.

Being treated as lepers when we first got off a cruise ship in March, we self-quarantined thinking it was of necessity ... and are still self-quarantined, now by choice. We discovered how much we enjoy our home and our own and each other's company on a 24/7 basis. I busy myself at home as much—or as little—as I wish. I'm surprised at how much I don't miss the handful of clubs and activities I had been involved with. Instead I find myself working on projects that I'd thought about for years. What a comforting thing to have discovered because of the pandemic!

Phobia, does that not mean something one is a scared of? The only thing that scares me about the Villages is that there is so much fun stuff to do every day, and the day is not long enough to knock off my daily to do list. Oh well, there is always tomorrow, with another opportunity to attack the to do list again and not get everything done. That is way better than starring at the wall watching the paint dry because there is nothing better to do : ) It's all good!
