Tax Bill Came Today

Well the tax bill came today. $1.44 increase. I’ll take it.

Regor 11-03-2020 07:29 AM

$7.50

CWGUY 11-03-2020 08:24 AM

:) My County Property taxes went down $1.95 and my School Taxes went up $8.66
Now with that being said, let me also state what the changes are compared to 2006 (as far back that you can check online at Sumter County Property Appraiser ) This bill for 2020 I am paying $143.00 less School Taxes and approx. $18.00 less in County Taxes compared to 2006. And I'm guessing even more savings since 2004 when we purchased. How many places can say that?
THANK YOU SUMTER COUNTY COMMISSIONERS :a040:

Sumter Co tax/bond bill received yesterday. Actually went DOWN $50 from last year. Nice surprise. Even though it's still $$$, so much better than most other states/locales.

Got mine last week, it is lower than last year.

I don't remember the exact amount for ours. It was around $1700 and change. We're fine with that. Lake County has been doing a decent job with our roads, police, social services, etc. etc. Can't compare it to our home in Connecticut, since our old home had one of the best school systems in the state (which is among the best state school systems in the country), and it snows up there so, more cost to road maintenance, more emergency costs when there's a nor'easter, especially when there's 2+ feet of snow on the ground and over 50,000 people are without power. Connecticut costs are MUCH higher than they are in Florida, so again - it's not appropriate to compare.

However if you must: we had a 1100 sf 3bed 1 bath ranch home with full basement on a wooded, fenced, 1/2 acre corner lot with 5 sugar maple trees in the back yard, the entire town is walkable, a kid's park 2 blocks away and senior housing behind us. Commercial properties (mostly retail) 3 blocks away on a state road so the town didn't have to pay for maintenance there. Super-low unemployment, and minimum wage was $10.10 when I left, it's up to $12 now, so more people can afford to actually live there (as long as they share expenses with house-mates).

They also have state income tax, which covers the medicaid expansion that Florida has rejected. So more people are able to afford to work, and get health care they need without having to eliminate all assets just for the privilege of not having to shell out hundreds of dollars for a yearly physical.

Everyone pays more up north. But everyone also gets more. I'm happy for the reduced costs of monthly expenses here. The grocery bill is out of control though. Now I understand why so many people go to Walmart, despite their reputation.

Did you call Vito & Rocco from back home to get an actuarial adjustment or is this just because you're a nice guy? :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

That's great news about the comparison of then and now. I love it. :mademyday: I'm going to look up my taxes which you taught me how to find last year. I wrote it down and didn't lose the site. It's a Miracle. I'm certain I will be happy as usual. :clap2:

tax bill

Since 2005, my property taxes have gone DOWN $414. Yet people find so much to be negative about. I don't have time for that.

:)You're 100% correct. And if anyone's taxes went up in Sumter County it's because their home value went up. The millage rate set by Sumter Co. is lower this year. That's a FACT. :coolsmiley:

I don't care about mill rates and home value, I care about what the bill is.

How do we find out how much is remaining on our bond?

Investment Painting Contractors 11-07-2020 08:48 AM

Have you noticed we haven't heard from any of the Tax complainers from September. Who were moving out, voting the Commissioners who held our taxes out of office etc. The Cabal by the Morse's to line their pockets, etc etc. They have moved on to another rant. Just my humble opinion. My taxes are lower than they were 13yrs ago. Len

Walmart. Despite their reputation? I think your home here is much lovelier.

I don’t cook but I do eat a lot of salads and fruit , I’ve been in Walmart s few times and wouldn’t think of buying most of the fresh produce I’ve seen there .I don’t pay attention to prices but Publix is by far the best of any of the stores and I can’t speak for Connecticut except for this past summer I’m usually in Boston for 4 months when I come back to Florida I feel like I’m getting my food for free lol

:1rotfl: You're BAD! But now that you mention it..... I don't have one either. Difference is we did have one. I know you like my jokes so here's today's -

It's a 5 minute walk to the pub from my house. From the pub back to my house is a 35 minute walk..... the difference is staggering. :icon_wink:

That is really amazing ! Not jealous or snide, I just wish I knew how you do that ! ? Ours have gone up every year since we built, around 2003. Never enclosed the lanai, or built a pool or put on an extra garage for the golf cart like some say NOT to do due to the tax shock they received. We just assumed it goes up a $100 or $150 every year because the value of the house raises ? Maybe you're not in Sumter co, which we are. Just talked with relatives who retired to the Villages at Hot Springs Arkansas. They bought a beautiful home on one of the golf courses 4 years ago, their property taxes are $861.00 a year. They think their groceries are also very high, particularly meat, but they do the bulk of their buying at Walmart, and only fill in with the other chains (They don't have Publix, she does miss Publix). Otherwise, their fees for amenities is $68 a month. They do not have as many golf courses as we do, but, they don't have nearly as many people using them either, easy to get a time one one of the courses. Higher percentage are retired full time, not as much snowbird activity as we have, but they did have a dusting of snow a couple times. They retired from Michigan, to the "dusting of light snow" was no turn off for them, LOL ! The climate is mild, but it does get cold. They really enjoy that they have both indoor and outdoor pools and really nice club houses and "beaches" on the shores of several lakes. They do have to travel further to the rec centers, marinas, pools, etc. They do not have a pool for ever group of homes like we have here in each village, but they don't mind at all. Always some trade off where ever you go ! We have Orlando and amusement parks, they love the resort town of Hot Springs and spending time in the "mountains" and huge forest near them. One thing we noticed, on a dollar for dollar basis, the same amount of money does buy a much larger house there with more of the "up-charge" things included (like granite counters, better landscaping, sky light, things like that).

I'm in a courtyard villa in Sumter Co. My taxes went up $163.66 from last year.

My bill is where the dart lands, and the landing point of the dart can be manipulated by playing with both the mill rate and the appraised value. I don't want to hear the great news that my mill rate went down, or my appraised value did not increase, when my bill went up. The bill is the bottom line, the rest is just data used to determine the bill. That is not a difficult concept to understand.
