Courtyard Villa dryer vent
We just moved into an older, circa 1992, courtyard villa. Our new dryer seems to be taking a very long time to dry clothes, almost an hour for 2 sets of twin sheets, and a few other things. When my husband went to check on the dryer vent exit, thinking it might be blocked, he couldn’t find it outside. Could the dryer be vented into the attic? Also, can’t find any attic access.

Our 1992 is a Baja and the vent is out of the wall next to the gate on the side. Between the heat pump and the wall. |
Most likely being you don’t see on outside wall low it vent out top of the roof? Look on you’re roof for vent turned down so rain won’t get blown in above the wall that you dryer against. Yes they are known to have plugging problems due gravity having to force air up ANd out the roof. IMO should be cleaned out about every 3 years depending on how much you wash. Mine real easy, vent out the garage wall behind the dryer low to ground and the vent tube only about foot long going through the wall.

The gooseneck shaped duct outlet is most likely on the roof. It is highly unlikely to be in the attic. If the dryer is getting hot, I wouldn't use it until you can have the vent inspected and cleaned out. It could cause a fire.

Ours is on the roof directly above the dryer.

Thanks. It’s on the roof.

Thanks. We’ll get it checked.

Blocked vent

it has to be cleaned and vacuumed in order for your dryer to perform efficiently. The technician will find the vent terminus good luck |

one of my former tasks. |
Had the same problem, the flapper on the gooseneck exhaust vent which is directly above the dryer on roof was completely blocked shut. When I put my hand up in there, it was crusted with dried lint that broke off in big chucks I could pull out. Filled a quart zip lock bag. You will also notice you had very little lint in the dryer filter after each cycle. Now dryer runs great.

it’s oval shaped but still not enough volume to over come gravity. It will plug up sooner than any other design due to particles being lifted straight up and moisture in the air. Even if put boost fan in the system IMO it will also eventually get clogged same way the dryer boost fan gets clogged. Yes, it will help, but IMO now way getting around clean out depending on use. |
I have my dryer vent cleaned every year. It's not expensive. Not only does it help with drying, it helps prevent dryer fires based on clogged vents.

If dryer is too close to wall the tubing may be kinked. If possible move it out a bit and retry.
We had an hourly ($50) man do this and a couple other jobs in that time. |
