Country Club noise level

I took my wife out for a nice quiet dinner at a country club recently, just wanted to listen to some live music and have some cheap drinks at happy hour. We were sitting very close to the performer, but it just got so noisy with people talking (and screaming and shouting) that we couldn't even hear the music!

Maybe it's because we're all old and can't hear so well, but let's try to respect everyone's space, please.

retiredguy123 11-07-2020 01:20 PM

You expected a quiet dinner with live music during happy hour at a Villages Country Club?

That was a bad plan.

Now you know what to expect next time you go to any country club.

We love The Villages. We do the things we enjoy and avoid the things we hate, like loud music and loud people.

The only quiet country club restaurant here was Hacienda Hills. Absolute quiet except for the one guy at the pool bar. It's a shame more people didn't take advantage of that.

Asking a room full of people to change their behavior to suit you is not reasonable.

I played Glenview two weeks ago on a Saturday and I could hear the entertainment, some fellow singing classics like Frank Sinatra just about anywhere on the Stirrup Cup nine, I mean hundreds and hundreds of yards away.

As far as Bonifay and Belle Glade, they have entertainment on the patio most Fridays when I normally play and when combined with the crowd noise as mentioned by the OP, you'll know coming up the 18th fairway everyone is enjoying themselves.

That should fix it ! Thanks !!

I found ear plugs are a good idea - previously the only time I used to wear them was at night. In TV it’s the other way.

Hmmm, indoors in a tight space with lots of vulnerable old people screaming and shouting while consuming cheap drinks.

Somebody should get a Covid test and reconsider where they go for entertainment. If being in that situation bothers you, just imagine how much it would suck being on a ventilator.

Actually ventilators blow, not suck.

Rather rude to sit near an entertainer and speak in loud voices dont you think?

If you want to talk sit away from him..

If you didn’t like where you were seated, request a different table or leave..Choose a restaurant without live music...This is quite elementary...no need for discussion...

Another miserable soul, draining the life out of others...I’m not worried about Covid, I worry about brainwashed fools, who spend their days in front of TV..

ts12755 11-08-2020 07:13 AM

Let the people have fun... stay home if you want quiet time.

jedalton 11-08-2020 07:16 AM

I have noticed, at happy hour, some people have too much to drink and become very loud. Seems that way at all the restaurants in T.V.

I feel your pain, but people talk louder because they want to talk with each other and have to talk loud enough to be understood. If there is a loud band, they have to talk even louder. It drives me crazy to see lips moving, but not be able to make out what my dinner companion is saying. Thus, I avoid loud restaurants at all times, and Happy Hour is out of the question. My hearing sort of gets paralyzed after five or ten minutes of noise like that, and then being there gets miserable. At my house, any hour can be happy hour, I can be in silence or play the music of my choice, and I can enjoy my drink in my favorite chair or even relaxing in my pool. That’s why I’m always happy.

Oh Blueash. Much can be said about THAT....lol.

Kgcetm 11-08-2020 07:59 AM

Surely you're kidding. Country Club, music and you want a quite dinner. Try Bluefin, Chophouse or Bonefish. You deciding you want a quiet dinner isn’t going to change people’s behavior. Ask for a quiet table, go to another restaurant or eat at home (don’t forget to turn the radio down).

meboyle 11-08-2020 08:00 AM

To say nothing of the rudeness while someone is performing.

Sooo true. Chop House has booths that are quiet and private. Country clubs are usually noisy. Ask the hostess which area is the quietest and don’t sit near the music. Wear earplugs and then text each other.

shut the front door 11-08-2020 08:05 AM

LOL! Only 8 posts until someone turns it into a covid panic!

Marine1974 11-08-2020 08:25 AM

People who are not afraid of Covid 19 and do not follow guidelines are our Nurses and Doctor’s worst nightmare . Probably just too much beer muscles talking .

PhyllisC 11-08-2020 08:41 AM

Yep, it’s called “Happy Hour”. You’re kidding, right??????

Joe C. 11-08-2020 08:56 AM

Most all of the music, whether in the squares, or country clubs is WAY TOO LOUD. I'm partially deaf, and have a hard time understanding people when there is background noise that is too loud. I sit at Dunkin Donuts when music is on at the square, and it's painfully loud, and none of us can have a decent conversation. The best time to talk is when the band is on a break. I did go to the Glenwood CC a couple of weeks ago and sat outside for dinner and music. The music was at a decent level, and I enjoyed the music, the food, and the conversation.
Ever check the db level at the squares? Even from 250 feet away, I've seen the db level around 100. Now that's loud.

Rwirish 11-08-2020 09:00 AM

Good, people are having fun.

Let’s stop complaining about everything.

holmesperdue 11-08-2020 09:02 AM

Old people are sometimes hard of hearing; some people talk louder to make up for it. We do need more quiet places to dine in. Try the Rose Plantation, its quiet and has great food - and yes, it's more expensive...

Waltdisney4life 11-08-2020 09:10 AM

Alcohol and villagers equals noise.

OMG.....Golfie’s in the house.....everyone please keep quiet for Golfie until he has finished his cheap drinks !

Country Clubs aren’t the place to wine & Dine your lady. The Country Club ceilings Aren’t insulated so sounds bounce off metal ceilings. Surely you can find somewhere else besides a noisy C. C. to take your gal out for a little soft music. Live music plays what kind of crowd they have. Next time wait until some nursing home has family night, I gaurantee you it’ll suit you!

Bethwill 11-08-2020 09:24 AM

Tophcha, I doubt their experience was indoors. You sound a bit snarky. Im amazed how ornary you all sound.

From a brainwashed fool

We have had a lot less free time the past couple months. Needed to help arrange funerals for 3 family members that DIED from Covid.
U R lucky so far.
Please rethink and start doing what you can to stay safe so you will be around to enjoy the music next summer after the Operation Warp Speed has provided everyone a protective vaccine.

airstreamingypsy 11-08-2020 10:05 AM

I think The Villages is the noisiest place I've ever seen. Perhaps because many seniors are hard of hearing, and they eat in large groups.... the noise level in restaurants does not make for quiet conversation.

Spalumbos62 11-08-2020 10:08 AM

Whoa !!!

That's why it is good to get out of TV where the normal people live.

120,000 new cases yesterday, yikes! Maybe the brainwashed one is the one thinking that those with the opposite opinion are brainwashed. I personally know of a case that just appeared yesterday in TV Land. There are some people that will have to be dragged "kicking and screaming" into the world of mask-wearing and the empathy needed to respect their fellow TV Landers. Unfortunately, it may require laws to ensure safe and healthy behavior. No one in the US wants that. New Zealand and other countries were able to simply request mask-wearing on a voluntary basis. Their country complied. Again, UNFORTUNATELY, our country is losing the war against CV and is pretending that it is unnecessary to fight CV back. All-you-all can only PRETEND for so long. The CV is coming closer and closer to friends that YOU know here locally! Countrywide sanity needs to return soon. Winston Churchill understood the US well when he said that America will do the RIGHT thing..........AFTER they have tried all other options. We are currently very far from doing the right thing.......as Americans are NEEDLESSLY dying!

And this has what to do with noisy country clubs???

Kenswing 11-08-2020 11:19 AM

Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't this thread about noise at a country club restaurant? Why do some people have to turn EVERYTHING into a Covid debate?
