Bottled Water
On the news this morning they showed people in the Villages buying water. Do their faucets stop working during the storm? Or do they have wells? Always wondered. Len
|
Many people without water filtration systems don't care for the taste of the water(chlorination)so buy bottled water.
Just so you know. |
They are buying peace of mind.
|
Some of the people who have the filtration system still buy bottled water.
My answer to that is Yes Dear! I hear you, Dear! You are always correct Dear! :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl: Immediately Dear 5 more case from Sam's. Yes, Dear! Has to be Aquafina. I hear You Dumpling, Sugar Pie, Love of my Life! I'm Whipped and I love her so onward we go. :1rotfl::1rotfl::pray: |

One reason is that the storm could cause lightning that disables the water system. Last year, during a fierce thunderstorm, lightning hit our very large Sylvester palm, traveled underground and blew out the water main across the street.

I’m curious as to why anyone cares how you spend money, and on what. If golfing we use tap in metal container. Going outside of the bubble we take bottles, cause it’s cheaper than $2.98 at the gas station

We use the filtered water from our GE fridge. Besides Fuji water, our fridge filtered water tastes better to me than any other bottled water. Before the storm I fill lots of receptacles, (water pitchers and such) so I have enough water in case the water supply is interrupted. Really no need to purchase bottled water and I lived in South Florida for 24 years besides the years we have lived in The Villages.

We hail from the north where dead of winter we could lose power for 10 days. Didn’t panic then, so a hurricane doesn’t change much for us. Wonder with the aging population here, a lot in their 70s, 80s, makes some hoard maybe out of fear. But then again our parents in their 80s still in winter wonderland have never hoarded ( well they do have 3 shovels, 2 snowblowers, one light weight for porch, deck and small sidewalk, and then Big Ben that can move 3 feet depth of snow while make the best sledding hill) In TV if they were buying a pallet of products, that would be different issues altogether. We did go to an open house, and in the nook there was 10 cases of water. I found that strange and maybe not so unusual here |
If the power go out, the pumping stations have generator. We lost power for 20 hours a couple years ago still had water BUT NO COFFEE.
|
My villa has no filtration system and even after Zero water filtering the tap water, it didn't taste good. So I go over the top and zero filter bottled water at all times, not just for storms. Tastes like pure water now.
|
Water supply has become contaminated in past weather events.

just boil city water ...tastes great better then bottled water

You definitely should get a hurricane preparedness guide. Water is the number one important supply. If you get a contaminated water and no electric no way to boil. You will not have safe drinking water. A lot of pumps run on electric supply. Also should fill your tub for flushing water.

Many Villagers love to Live In Fear. When a hurricane is headed to FL, the grocery shelves begin to get bare. Bottled water is quick to go. Usually nothing drastic happens and the scared Villagers can talk about how lucky they were that the Storm missed them, until the next storm is on the radar and it begins again. A good example of the Fear can be found in various threads about Wearing a Mask.
We DO remember a few years ago when the eye of a hurricane came right over a portion of The Villages. My power AND WATER were out for 6 days in the heat of summer. That was real and thankfully a rare event. |

Do not understand the bottled water thing. Polluting the planet with plastic. A home filter, in any form usually does the trick and would help save the planet. Although it will not allow us to breath in those wonderful toxic fumes from the plastics being burned locally. Breath deeply!

We are originally from Jersey and our water always had a weird taste to it even after filtration. I always bought Poland Springs water. My husband calls me a water snob because I would only by Fiji water when we moved here. He drinks zephyrhills water which to me you can taste the filtration. To my surprise Staples sells Poland Springs. I buy 4 cases of Poland Spring instead of 1 case of Fiji. My wallet and husband are much happier now.

We have maintained a "storm/blizzard/power outage/hurricane pantry" for years, whether up North or in South Florida. Old habit. Use up and rotate the stock and replenish as needed. I don't wait until the last minute for a coming weather event. It's not hoarding, it's being prepared. Yeah, it's peace of mind. I have enough anxiety. LOL

BEST TO BE PREPARED. |
I have had well water all of my adult life till moving to the Villages.
The water here absolutely sucks. So I drink bottled water. I use tap water for coffee and tea. |
Just in case

Same all over wether it be water, batteries etc. Just common sense if you've lived long enough or lived through any storms/acts of nature. **** happens. Be prepared and hopefully you don't need it immediately. |
First we do not have wells. People buy bottled water when storm is anticipated for peace of mind. More than two cases in my opinion is excess. But to each his own. Been here 23 yrs never had a electrical.outage that lasted more than hours never days. Stay Safe

6 days is nothing, the one day you do not prepare is the day you wish you did. Have lived in TX and FL for 23 years
