Store shelves empty of paper products AGAIN!

What has happened in the last week that has prompted a rush once again on paper products? Store shelves in Target and Colony Publix are nearly empty once again of toilet paper and paper towels. Those are the only two stores I've been to in the past week (yesterday) but I'm afraid that is becoming a trend and we will see wide spread hoarding again. Hurricane season is just about over. So....just wondering why empty shelves again?

Viperguy 11-15-2020 06:37 AM

Because people take more than they need. Inconsiderate.

I understand the issue is hoarding but, my original post was to figure out why the hoarding AGAIN? I honestly do not think it is a supply issue because why, all of a sudden, would there be a supply issue?

I just read read on another thread that some of the stores are limiting capacity again due to the pandemic kicking up into high gear. Now I understand the reason for the hoarding.

Because this:

Dr. Michael Osterholm, a coronavirus advisor to President-elect Joe Biden, said a nationwide lockdown would help bring the virus under control in the U.S.

Biden Covid advisor says U.S. lockdown of 4 to 6 weeks could control pandemic and revive economy

Of course that was 4 days ago and when they saw that it went over like a lead balloon, they've been frantically backpedaling for the past 48 hours.

Believe it or not toilet paper and paper towel shortages started showing strain in August according to producers' demand was up about 16% in some areas of the nation. Supply chains adjust accordingly supplying those areas.

And that is when the civil war begins.

I always check TV website for homes for sale and see for yourself VLS 232060, at 534 Inner circle Look at the master closet and it looks the Sams club with all the hoarded toilet paper. Unbelievable!

Stating the obvious.......as would six weeks, eight weeks, ten weeks. :ohdear:

He said it, was not a recommendation, is NOT in line with Joey's view.

Mortal1 11-15-2020 08:34 AM

"empty" and "nearly empty" are not the same thing. perhaps it was your intent to cause a slight panic.

Thanks for posting true statement - not conspiracy

Nationwide truckers strike Nov. 26th.....maybe??

davem4616 11-15-2020 09:12 AM

I saw the empty paper good shelves the other day while shopping at Publix and just shook my head....here we go again

Stu from NYC 11-15-2020 09:20 AM

Friday the Super Walmart on 466 had good supply of toilet paper.

Yes it's proposed for Nov 26 thru Nov 29 Thanksgiving weekend

guitarguy 11-15-2020 09:29 AM

Could it be that snowbirds are arriving and buying basic supplies?
Seems that T P gets easy notice.

Gulfcoast 11-15-2020 10:11 AM

I think it was worry about the storm. People were stocking up on supplies. The shelves are fine in other parts of Florida.

dnobles 11-15-2020 10:22 AM

Kilm. I wonder if it’s negotiable in the price. Instead of furniture included TP included 🤣

OrangeBlossomBaby 11-15-2020 10:26 AM

Uh - it was Hurricane Etta, we were expecting a pretty nasty storm coming at the edge of that. Shelves were mostly stocked up yesterday just fine at Publix. There HAVE been some empty spots ever since the initial Pandemic closings in March/April - they were never back up to full. But now they're pretty much the same as they usually are when you're expecting a huge storm the next day.

Not a big deal. Maybe they're empty of the brand YOU prefer - so pick a different brand. There's plenty available.

Gladly we didn't see any of that strain here in The Villages' stores, not that I noticed, anyway. Seems to me the shelves have been completely stocked at all times for several months...............until now.

No, not my intent at all to cause a slight panic; just stating the facts of what I saw. Let me give you a percentage of the empty shelves......90% empty. That to me is "nearly empty".

Despite the expiration date that your toilet paper company lists on the packaging of your toilet paper, the product lasts for much longer than you may expect. As long as you don't get the toilet paper wet or allow dust and dirt to get into the packaging of your toilet paper, the product can last years or even decades.

Maybe it's worth while hanging onto the much maligned phone books.
Just in case!:icon_wink:

There's plenty on Amazon.

Increases the value of the home if included.

It's been quite a while since a few scabs got shot driving during a strike. I hope there are no incidents if this goes through.

Are you sure you didn't have too much Taco Bell for dinner and was dreaming of being without TP? Maybe I'm just blind or maybe you're projecting. :D :1rotfl:

good point, nothing like being prepared. I'm going to stop tossing out the Daily Sun :icon_wink:

patfla06 11-15-2020 03:00 PM

Trailwinds Publix had almost empty shelves for paper towels, napkins
and toilet paper. Ridiculous.

Bob McKeever 11-15-2020 03:05 PM

No TP at Sam's Club

Not that I would consider it a disaster, but I was surprised that there was no TP at Sam's Club earlier this week.

Art cov 11-15-2020 06:37 PM

When so n so said lockdown then the buying began. Also made mention when he got in office, might shutdown until vaccine is out. Many Restaurants won’t make it through another long lockdown. He said indoors/outdoors a mask mandate will be in place. Can’t eat with a mask on. We will see what happens. Hey folks it’s starting in lots of states with paper products. Nothing to do with the storm!

I never noticed an expiration date on toilet paper packaging.

Snowbird populations Come in south side stocking up?

There is either a nasty stomach virus going around or everyone is getting their colonoscopy before Thanksgiving dinner lands like a bomb.

Neils 11-15-2020 11:40 PM

Plenty of phone books at most postal centers. Party on.

Inexes@aol.com 11-15-2020 11:58 PM

Not just Florida

Daughter went shopping at Sams Club in Hickory. NC...... no TP or paper towels here either.......unbelievable.

Not if they bought it in small numbers over a longer period of time. Could be they always have a lot and buy one pack when one runs out.

The exponential increase of covid new cases and death is the reason...

bilcon 11-16-2020 07:16 AM

You all forgot the Big Hurricane was coming last week. Charge! Off to the store, buy anything you don't need just in case we are flooded in TV. Thank you weathermen for causing another panic.
