Michigan Lockdown

Gov. Whitmer is set to hold a press conference at 6:00 pm.
Expected to shut down high schools, colleges, restaurants (take out only), bars, work from home if at all possible etc. etc. for 3 weeks.
Have to watch to see what the specifics are.

Gulfcoast 11-15-2020 07:20 PM

I am glad that I don't live in that state. That is all I can say.

BTW, the governor of Michigan was at one point a top pick to be Biden's running mate.

thelegges 11-15-2020 07:47 PM

College for all our grands in MI have been announced yesterday back online only. Hospitals are already furloughing employees as of Monday, 11/16.. There are so many who still can’t feed their families, pay mortgage from her last shutdown. Our daughter and her kids are in the #movement no child should go hungry in MI. They provide food for those in need.

Many who live in MI say Governor will be a one and done.

Bucco 11-15-2020 08:23 PM

Just in case there may be two sides to the story....

The announcement comes as the state says it has seen exponential growth in cases that is nearly four times higher than it was during the peak of the virus surge in early April, and as hospitals warn they are filling up with COVID-19 patients.

New cases peaked over 9,000 twice in the last seven days, with trends indicating that is more likely to be the norm in the coming days. As of Saturday, the Michigan Health Department reported 7,072 new cases and 65 additional deaths, bringing the state's total to more than 251,000 coronavirus cases and more than 7,900 related deaths since the pandemic began.

If you in fact read the link, there are many who agree.....let it rip, so to speak.

Wonder if that will include large gathering's of ........ummm.....protesters

Whitmer is correct

I totally agree with Whitmer. It's a 3 week pause... and it wasn't done by Whitmer, it was done by the Michigan Health and Human Service. She just made the announcement. I totally stand behind this announcement. Maybe Florida should also. Things are getting worse by the day. The current president is a denier. He could care less how many people die from COVID, Someone has to stand up.

It's a 3 week pause... I think we can all live with it. The country should do the same.

Art cov 11-16-2020 12:44 AM

Her husband wanted their boat by traverse city cleaned up for last Memorial Day. When agency said not during the shutdown, he said “ do you know who I am?” The governor’s husband. A lot of politicians think they are above everyone else. They make a law and don’t do what they want us to do. A disgrace!

Yes, do not need some mother or nanny Governor telling me how to take care of myself. If you need that kind of supervision please go to it. The constitution does not dictate for the Government to take care of my health. Never understand why so many people think it is the Governments job to take care of them and all their problems. Grow up and take some responsibility for life.

The people who have no income can't live with it. If we're all really "in it together", why don't you send all your income to someone in lockdown. It's only 3 weeks, right? By the way, there's no evidence that lockdowns do anything to stop the spread of the virus.

Governor of California just attended a 50th birthday party that went against his proclamations. They are all hypocrites.

Am in total agreement with Governor Whitmer. I am incredulous at the number of deniers in The Villages. This is a serious situation and if our lame state leader had any brains, he would do the same thing. Are you willing to die? Me? Not to Covid and stupid decisions by our Governor. Wear a mask! I would trade Governors with Michigan in a second.

I don't want to live in a state where the gov/state makes all my decisions for me. Sounds too much like China...

That is ridiculous. She is one of the few leaders who has the political and moral courage to do what is right. Why can't people get into their thick heads that 1. COVID-19 is out of control in the USA, especially in the mid-west, and 2, that there is and will be no economic recovery until the pandemic is under control. The US - and Canada - need leaders with the strength of will of those in New Zealand, Australia, and a number of Asian countries. 2024 - Harris and Whitmer.

NYC is well below the 1% r factor. The results speak for themselves in NYC. Credit where credit is due.

mydavid 11-16-2020 06:57 AM

I see most negative comments on the beautiful state of Michigan have never been there.

Hiltongrizz11 11-16-2020 07:02 AM

In NY around March we were told "14 days to flatten the curve". It was to not overwhelm the hospitals with Covid patients. It worked.

NY has now been shutdown since then and shows no signs of.changing. It has the worst numbers and Florida has better numbers by far.

That's why we moved to Florida. This Michigan shutdown is not about Covid...and it will be longer than 3 weeks. Wakeup!

gaetanamc@comcast.net 11-16-2020 07:02 AM

Amen!

If this post was designed to out all the pearl clutchers, who want the government to look after their every need, and the patriots, who are advocates of self reliance and self determination, you have succeeded!

I couldn't have said it better.

Maybe Michiganders should think twice before they pull the lever in the voting booth next time. The richly have what they certainly deserve in their choice of Governor.

In a state where people (restaurants and all small businesses) are hanging on by a thread and finally seeing a tiny ray of light are the reason a 3 week pause is something that we ALL can't live with. Yes the Health and Human Services made this restriction. The Governor was taken to court and determined she did not have the authority to keep extending these shutdowns. So, she enacted the help of the director of health and they dusted off that authority. If you speak directly to nurses and hospital workers here, there are not many people in their hospital workplace that are COVID. This Governor has ruined small business owners and allowed the mega stores to do business as usual....just wear a mask.

algi45 11-16-2020 07:35 AM

There is no large increase in cases in TV, despite rallies (over two weeks ago), the reopening of the squares and restaurants. The question is where in Florida are the increases occurring?

Do you live in Michigan? Do you see the people there suffering and empty buildings that used to be thriving businesses? Do you see the children with separation anxieties that may last a lifetime? Just curious.

Counts are increasing, as much more testing is done.

The people of Michigan spoke loudly to stop it and the Supreme Court ruled against her overreach. Now, Whitmer is using HHS to continue her rule.

This pause...MANY businesses will not survive actually...and many people. Depression, anxiety, abuse and other things will continue to rise. This is hurting healthy people and causing pain for so so many.

This is our families. Our home... and it is just sad for Michigan in so many ways.

Have a good day. Peace. ✌

Tell that to the people who will and have lost their livelihood, cannot pay their mortgage or rent. On top of that if the president elect decides to shut it down for another six weeks as he is contemplating you can tell it to the millions who will be unemployed and the thousands who will loose the their businesses. All this for a virus that had a cure rate of over 99.9 percent. This is nuts. I know people have died from this virus and it is sad We see it on TV every day. I wonder when they will start reporting daily the number of deaths from suicide, drug overdoses, and people who waited to long for medical attention because they were scared to death to leave their homes. Probably right up there with the number who have died from the virus.

Lindsyburnsy 11-16-2020 07:57 AM

The majority of people in Michigan love our Governor Whitmer. She is following science and trying to keep people healthy because. If people would have all worn masks, kept their distance and washed their hands, she wouldn't have to do this. So happy for those of you who live in states that don't follow science and are satisfied with it. Nobody wants anything shut down, but keeping everything open when cases are soaring is ridiculous. Ignoring COVID19 hoping it will magically disappear is not the answer no matter what the quacks tell you.

Niferlou06 11-16-2020 07:57 AM

Strongly agree with you. Take a pause, stay home and stay safe. Let's all work together to end all the deaths.

Question. What is the survival rate of COVID?
