Bathroom rugs & mildew
I've read that it's not a good idea to have a rug outside the shower/tub due to chance of mildew.
I am thinking of either putting down one of those cushioned kitchen mats alone or a cushioned mat and regular bath rub on top of it. What do you think? |
That's why God created heavy duty washing machines.
|
We have had rugs outside the shower since we moved in 7 years ago, NO mold, No mildew, as I recall rugs get washer about once per month. On a side note, these dry out very quickly.
|
We just use a bath mat towel. We hang it on the shower door rail in between showers and throw it in the laundry with towels.
|
plan on doing that also with the tub but no rail on the shower :(
|
How about a bamboo mat.
|
I have a cotton blend rug in front of the shower, and a cushion mat in front of the kitchen sink. No mildew or other problems.
IIRC, we had to install several towel bars in both bathrooms to make it comfortable for us. |
I dry off before I come out of the shower, so little water gets on the rug.

I agree with the comment about drying off best you can within the shower before stepping out onto the bath mat. Someone mentioned a bath towel. That slips around easily, injury hazard in my book.

Bath Mat
I have an all cotton mat - very old, but looks brand new. Doesn't slide and can be tossed in washer and dryer or hung outside to dry when partially dry.

I have used a small textile one in my bathroom since I moved in in '17. No problems. As has been noted above, it is placed on the outside of the bathtub and is washed periodically. There has no rubber backing. Even without that there is no slipping and sliding. I step directly out of the shower onto it. I then dry off; on issues. As also noted above, it dries off very quickly after having been used.

17 years in TV and have NEVER EVER seen such a problem i use a bath mat near the shower.
|
I’m not worried about mold on those rugs , but I believed in the course of the day the rugs start to become unsanitary because through normal use of bathroom . . I put down on floor the towel I used the night before on floor and that I used during the day to wash up with , keeps my floor clean and no rugs to get messy

To Choro and Swing, Taking a shower sounds exhausting!! haha

Yep. Also, install timers on your exhaust fans and let them run for 30 minutes. |
