Postal Station trash Cans...overflowing
Postal Station garbage.
Why are people putting their garbage in the trash cans at the postal stations? Not all of it its unwanted Mail as bags of what ever is is hanging out the sides of the cans. People can see the can is overflowing yet they leave their nwanted mail even on top of the can. More unwanted Mail is lying on the ground. I picked it up and took it home so that the wind does not scatter it all over. Keep the The Villages beautiful. Is it so difficult to take and sort your Mail at home? This happens a lot at the Buttonwood station. Not sure how the others are. |

. agree, many times we see folks filtering thru their mail for junk right there - to throw out in the postal cans... we always simply bring all home, and any junk mail (most of the mail...) gets shredded if our address is on it, or trashed at our home. Bottom line, it all ends up at the same place - why make a mess at the Postal areas? . . |

. That has nothing to do with why. Actually, Why not? That's why we have a shredder. It takes a couple seconds a day. And our names/address aren't on the junkmail mail-back cards or such. So why? Because we can - and do. . . |

I think the whole point of having trash cans there in the first place is so people can throw out unwanted mail, and not HAVE to bring it home with them. I don't think people should be cleaning out their cars in the parking lot and using those trash cans as their personal garbage receptacle. But as far as I can tell, there's no actual rule against it. If it's overflowing often, you should get in touch with whichever governing entity is in charge of your postal area. Perhaps they need to add another trash can. Empty that one out more often. Or have Community Watch make an extra stop every day to remind people that people are paying attention to their lack of consideration for others, even if it's not technically against the rules.
Where I come from, littering is actually against the law and if you're caught doing it you can be fined. That doesn't happen often (the fine part - people still do litter). But when someone is being a real jerk about their bad habits, eventually they do have to pay the price for their inconsiderate behavior. |
I could never understand why people do this. EVERYONE pays a sanitation fee every month. It make no sense not to bring your mail home and throw the unwanted mail out.

‘Gotta get a bigger can.’

People in the Villages are from all over. Many areas of the country have no sense of community and it shows here. I bring my mail home.

If the USPS didn't give advertisers ENORMOUS discounts, we wouldn't get so much JUNK MAIL! They pay next to nothing to send us all those unwanted brochures and catalogs. The junk clogs our trash cans; imagine what it does to our landfills!
Why aren't enviro-fanatics screaming about the trees that are cut to create all that junk and the dilemma it creates in trash management? They're so invested in getting rid of plastic straws, but never complain about the extreme amount of wasted paper in junk mail! Of course, the reality is junk mail saved thousands of union jobs at the post office. Twenty years ago, the USPS was threatening to reduce mail delivery to 3 or 4 days a week. So what? Most messages are now sent via email or text. "Snail mail" is a relic of the past. But, any reductions in service meant the union would have less workers and less dues being paid. Can't have that! The more junk mail to be delivered, the more workers they have to employ! |
If it's full put it somewhere else Bingo

Perhaps the trash cans should be completely removed. There is no need to have trash cans at the postal facility.

I've seen people standing by the small trash barrels at the postal station sorting out what they want and tossing the rest, and thought, well that's efficient.....but I've never seen the barrels overflowing
Like most of us, we take our 'junk mail' home and toss it... I have to say that it feels like we are being inundated with many more catalogs and requests for donations this year than ever before |

Most people are stupid and selfish and it shows here. Keeping the postal service in cash is the problem. If it were a regular business it would need to be solvent. Our government at work wasting our money.
|
It seems ironic to me that people are complaining about people who put trash in a trash can. If the cans are overflowing, you either need more cans or you need to empty them more often.
Some people say that you are not even supposed to put junk mail in the trash cans. If that is true, why put 5 trash cans around the mail boxes where people pick up their junk mail? More than 90 percent of my mail is trash. |

Don’t be so quick to wish for new rules for everything, eg littering. I agree that WE should keep the villages clean. Garbage pails should be emptied more then once a day.

Someone dropped a big black trash bag of aluminum cans at the Rio Grande postal station. One of the service clubs used to collect them, but I don't know if they are still doing it. But the bag of cans opened and they are all over the landscaping at the back of the mail boxes. They just renovated the air gun range, etc and this trash is unsightly, to say the least. I hope whoever is doing this will stop.

We all get and pay for trash pickup twice a week. What is the big deal to take all your mail home and then sort it. As soon as I get home I sort it all in the garage. Throw junk mail and catalogs in trash. Done before I go in the house.

Hard to believe the discussion on garbage cans. You guys really have a lot of time on your hands. Get involved with all TV has to offer and stop worrying about the garbage 🤦*♀️
|
Why do you think the trash cans are there for?
|
Yesterday, there was a new Dukes, glass mayonnaise bottle on top of the trash. I can't imagine why someone didn't throw it in the garbage. Like someone is going to come back and get it. I wouldn't. Could be dampered with.

People that bring their dog to the postal station and then use the trash can for pet waste disposal bothers me. Other than that I'm glad that we
have them there. |
Ok now that you got me started..who do we call for all the garbage along Morse between 44 & 501..oh my gosh I just had a friend visit from WI..and I was embarrassed..we just did a pick up along the preserve path in Bradford..20 brand new residents got together 2weeks ago..and it’s just as BAD AGAIN!! In 2 weeks!! It’s definitely construction garbage..we are not throwing litter in our brand new village we just spent buco bucks to buy!! We should all call the villages..we have a call in now..it is horrible..you should see the path along the new construction in St Catherine’s ..you’d be sick..

Where I lived prior to moving here all state and county parks removed trash cans. It was carry in carry out. Guess what..they saved money and the parks were cleaner |
From experience - the best way to totally avoid trash accumulation is to eliminate trash bins from mail stations. I have lived in many communities with mail stations. The ones with trash bins next to mail boxes ALWAYS get used as major trash dumps. The mail stations with NO trash bins provided have been TOTALLY void of any trash!! My recommendation - The Villages should NOT provide any trash bins at all at the mail stations - people will take their mail with them and depose at home or elsewhere!!! And money will be saved - no need to have resources come empty all the bins. If provided - people will abuse. At first I didn’t like the mail stations with no trash bins - but - it forced me to take my trash home and dispose of there! :-)
|
Get rid of the trash bins! No trash bins - no trash! People will take the trash with them - The Villages can use that money saved to do better things for our community!!!! Why should people complain if they have to take a few advertisements and flyers home to dispose of?
|
Public cans are used for all sorts of garbage. Visitors/renters are unaware of the garbage guidelines for trash pick up so they do what they believe is the next best thing- find a trash can. I know residents who use it to get rid of their smelly trash so they don’t have it laying around until garbage day.

I do not put my junk mail in the garbage can at the postal station. I do that at home. When I used to travel, I would put a grocery size bag of garbage in the cans when I left for my trip. I don't want to come home from a long vacation to the odor of garbage. Also, you could get bugs. I thought that was what the garbage cans were for, garbage. Does anyone know of a better place to put garbage before leaving on a long trip?

WE are about to see a Pandemic end soon and we sit around and fuss about putting trash in trash cans? I have NEVER seen a mess at either of the postal stations we used here in The Villages. Why do people find stuff to complain about when there is so much that is positive....and much bigger things that are sad and angry making? |
Shouldn't be hard to track down the guilty parties.
