Garage door opener-golf cart

What do you do with your garage door opener on the golf cart? When you park (at a square, store, etc) do you put the opener in the glove box (locked/unlocked) or is everyone comfortable to leave it hanging in the cart?

I mounted mine to my overhead console using rivets. Remove the metal visor clip, then take the battery cover off. Drill a couple of holes through the back (as well as through the console), rivet it to the overhead, and reinstall the front of the opener

It takes about 30 seconds to get out of the golf car and use the mounted key pad, I leave my remote at home.

And for those of us who don't have a mounted keypad? Wondering also if you have a cover over your driveway for rainy days.

Bjeanj 12-05-2020 05:53 PM

One would need to either match the cart to someone’s home, or steal the opener and follow them home. In the first case, it would be pretty difficult. In the second case, when they got home they would discover the garage door opener gone, and presumably change the garage code (also assuming one has the house key on your key chain so you could get into the house). These are the two scenarios my non-criminal mind can come up with.

In any event, we feel pretty comfortable having it in our overhead shelf.

Everyone should have a keypad. If it's raining I'm sure you would get wet getting into your golf car before you headed for home so a little more won't hurt.

velcro inside of roof

Vikingjunior 12-05-2020 08:59 PM

There’s an app for that.

Papa_lecki 12-05-2020 09:00 PM

Thanks for the responses. Good ideas - feel safe that someone would know where home is and then take the opener.

tophcfa 12-05-2020 09:33 PM

Ours is velcrowed to the inside part of the front dashboard in both golf carts. Never have even given it a second thought. I am much more concerned about getting a decent t time and an open lane in the sport pools to swim laps.

Rwirish 12-06-2020 06:23 AM

I leave it on the front seat with the keys.

Waddling Eagle 12-06-2020 06:30 AM

We just leave it in the cart. No one is going to figure out which house it goes to.

DONKEY10 12-06-2020 06:51 AM

Don,t be stupid take it with you ,trust no one. I,m from Chicago they would steal that thing in a second if you leave it.

Take the remote with you, hide it in the engine compartment or leave it at home. It can be taken and reprogrammed to another garage door unit provided it matches the brand, (RoMac). These things are not cheap ($32) and anyone can reach in and take it. I bought one at a garage sale for $5, took it home, checked the batteries, got a paper clip and programmed it to my unit.
Voila!!! A spare.

We put ours in the glove box and locked it. So the crooks just took the whole cart, 2 years old, parked in front of Colony Cottage, in broad daylight. Don't worry about the garage door opener!

A little rough on the language but very true.

rlcooper70 12-06-2020 07:26 AM

Never gave it a thought. If someone wants to break into my particular home, they will find a way to do it regardless. I have decided to go forward without fear on the assumption that my fear hurts my immune system. Oh well. Hope it works out for us both and for the "rivet" person too (he's smart and handy).

We needed another one, so bought a small universal remote that goes on the key ring. Fits in your pocket easily.

Best idea yet.

My keypad has died and ROMAC says they are no longer available. Do you know where I could buy one?

I have one that has been velcroed to the inside roof of my golf cart for 8 years. No one has ever bothered with it.

bilcon 12-06-2020 08:35 AM

Do you leave your cell phone, wallet, keys in your golf cart? Why would you leave your garage opener there. Take it.

Is that your professional medical opinion or are you just being snarky?

Giving the benefit of a doubt, rain may not cause a heart attack but it could lead to a slip and fall situation. Walking in the rain, even for 30 seconds, would be unnecessary if a garage door remote was in the golf cart, which was the original question.

bjd0105 12-06-2020 09:20 AM

We have ours on a key chain with the key to the golf cart

Lowes. Generic brands work.

We ordered ours from amazon, it took about 5 minutes to program and install.

vonbork 12-06-2020 09:50 AM

Spring for the accessory from Villages carts that has a button on the dash that opens the door, just like your car. Program and leave the opener at home.

markfrat 12-06-2020 09:50 AM

The RinkuHaus G-Link allows you to control your garage opener with the flash of your headlights. Works for both Cars and Motorcycles!

Very simple. I put it in my pocket along with the key to the golf cart.

jeanninern@yahoo.com 12-06-2020 10:08 AM

Ours is attached with Velcro to the inside roof of the cart.

cwwilber@gmail.com 12-06-2020 10:09 AM

Wow! Wow! Wow!

Weezylou77@aol.com 12-06-2020 10:43 AM

Weezylou77@aol.com 12-06-2020 10:45 AM

Baywayric 12-06-2020 10:54 AM

Get a mini unit at Amazon and clip it to a keychain along with your cart key. Keep both in your pocket.

Garage opener..do what you feel comfortable with. I take mine with me. Just because someone lives in TV does NOT make them honest.

dadoiron 12-06-2020 11:12 AM

Me too (the other movement)

So easy to pocket it when you go to any place but convenient when you're in the cart. 👍

Worldseries27 12-06-2020 11:33 AM

E t. Phone home

Mama is waiting at home with a rolling pin if you've been out drinking. Im sure she'll open the garage as you skid in
if it's papa he'll do it after the football play is over
the longest you might wait is for the commercial break
